Necessity and Scope of the Project
Turkmenbashi Port, the largest port in Turkmenistan is located on the eastern coast of Caspian Sea. The port has function as important role in the transport chain between Central Asia and Caucasian countries. The port is linked with the railways network irrigating the landlocked countries of Central Asia.
Considering the needs of national strategy of Turkmenistan, current regional socio-economy for port development to improve trade facilitations and industrial competitiveness, the port shall be developed to reach the following four targets.
1. Gateway to Central Asia 2. Contribute Regional Economic Development and Enlargement of Trade 3. Port for Industrial Diversification 4. Port of Safety and Environmental Sustainability
This Study was carried out for the following objectives:
To collect and confirm basic data and information regarding the Railways, Roads and Turkmenbashi port forming an integrated national logistic supply system in order to contribute economic development and enlargement of trade by Turkmenistan and the Central Asian Region
There are three major logistics routes between Central Asian and Europe through Caucasian counties and Black Sea. The logistics through this port was found the most efficient and safe in transport route.
Service Provided
The following services were rendered.
The cargo forecast of the year 2020 is estimated at unloading crude oil up to 1,687,000 tons, oil products at 5,299,000 tons, General Cargo 6.48 mil ton, and 270,000 passengers traffic.
The following components of the project were proposed as the urgent projects for the Turkmenbashi port.
1. Improvement of the navigational channel by widening 240 m and deepening to 8.2 m 2. Development of Ro-PAX ferry terminal facilities by two Ro-Ro berths and terminal building 3. Maritime Education and Training Improvement Project at Turkmen Maritime College (TMC) 4. Technical cooperation and Assistance;
1) Assessment of the existing dredger of TMRL for mechanical/electrical repairs together with supply of spare parts for future maintenance dredging works
2) Assisting the improvement of maritime environmental protection facilities in TMRL including procurement of necessary equipment
