SOxcarbazepine

Childhood absence epilepsy in a paediatric patient:case report

A retrospective study identified a female paediatric patient[age at reaction onset not clearly stated] with benign rolandicepilepsy (BRE) who developed childhood absence epilepsyafter oxcarbazepine treatment. The girl was diagnosed withBRE at age 9 years, and treated successfully withoxcarbazepine [route and dosage not stated]. A follow-up EEG2 years later revealed evidence of generalised 3 Hz spike-wave(S-W) discharges, characteristic of childhood absenceepilepsy.

Author comment: "It is possible that oxcarbazepine mayhave induced 3 Hz S-W discharges in [this] patient".Datta Anita, et al.
