Protection and Control IED Manager,
PCM 600 Release Note
This section describes the limitations and known deects in the PCM
600 version 1.5. The purpose o this section is to help the user to avoid
situations that are known to be problematic in PCM 600 and to describe
work-arounds or known deects.
General
Screen resolution: PCM 600 supports the Normal size (96) DPIsetting. When using PCM 600 with Large size (120) DPI setting,
some texts might not be visualized in a correct way.
The communication structure should not be manipulated
manually. It should be managed via Plant Structure, Conguration
Wizards or SCL import. However the communication properties
e.g. an IEDs address can be reely altered in the Communication
Structure
o I all IEDs that are connected to the 61850 subnetwork are
removed rom the plant structure, it can sometime happen
that an empty 61850 subnetwork is let in the communicationstructure. This will cause a crash o the 61850 OPC server. I
this happens, the empty 61850 subnetwork can be manually
removed rom the communication structure.
Important note or CAP 540 Users: please remember to install
CAP 540 rst and then PCM 600. Do not do the opposite
because this will require uninstallation o PCM 600.
I you are using PSM and PCM in the same computer and the
PSM version is 1.8 or earlier, you must install PSM rst. Otherwise
the MSDE installation ails.
I MicroSCADA PRO SYS 600 9.2 or earlier and PCM 600 1.5
are installed in the same computer, SYS 600 must be installed
beore the PCM 600. I this order is not ollowed the opening o a
PCM 600 project (and the handling o other projects too) will ail.
I there is a rewall in the computer in which PCM 600 has been
installed, the rewall has to be congured in such a way that it
enables the PCM 600 to access the network.
When installing PCM 600 Ver. 1.5 on top o PCM 600 Ver. 1.1 and
PCM 600 Engineering or Engineering Pro is used, CAP 531 has
to be uninstalled beore installation o PCM 600 Ver. 1.5.
At least the Disturbance Handling Tool in PCM 600 does not work
ully in multi-processor PCs.
PCM 600 has been tested with the standard English versions
o Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Users o other language
versions o the operating system may experience errors in the
behavior o PCM 600.

Project Management
When converting PCM projects between versions 1.1 and 1.5, it
should be noticed that the automatic conversion does not include
SCL data. To obtain a complete conversion including all data,
proceed as ollows:
1. Make a backup o your PCM 600 data, or a project export
2. With PCM 600 Ver. 1.1, export the SCD rom the project with
private sections
3. Instal l PCM 600 Ver. 1.54. Install new versions o the Connectivity Packages
(e.g. IED 670 ConnPack Ver. 1.0r12 is not compatible with
PCM 600 Ver. 1.5)
5. Assign the Connectivity Packages or PCM 600 Ver. 1.5 using
the Connectivity Package Manager
6. Upgrade your project(s) using the PCM 600 Project upgrade
utility. The utility is available on the IED Connect CD or the
670 products and at inside.abb.com/substationautomation.
7. Start PCM 600 Ver. 1.5. Select the project in the Open/
Manage project window and use the conversion tool to open
the converted project and import the SCD le rom step 2
using the Ignore PCM object type option rom SCL import
Advance options
NOTE! I your project includes multiple IEC 61850 subnetworks,
the OPC server will display an error message(s) beore importing
the SCD le. These errors are due to the handling o projects with
multiple IEC 61850 subnetworks being changed between PCM
600 Ver. 1.1 SP 2 and PCM 600 Ver. 1.5. To be able to ully work
with a multiple-subnetwork project created in Ver. 1.1 SP2, the
whole procedure has to be executed the same number o times
as the number o subnetworks included in the original project and
thereby the original project will be divided into several projects.
The number o projects in the PCM 600 Ver. 1.5 is same as the
number o IEC 61850 subnetworks o the original project in the
PCM 600 Ver. 1.1 SP2.

Protection and Control IED Manager,
PCM 600 Release Note
I you delete an IED that is connected to two communication
subnetworks (e.g. IEC 61850 and SPA), one o the subnetworks
may not be properly updated. In this case the IED can be
manually deleted rom the communication subnetwork not
updated.
IEDs connected to several subnetworks with multiple access
points in SCL-le can be imported into PCM communication
structure. In such case IED is connected in PCM communication
structure to a rst subnetwork encountered rom SCL reerring the
IEDs access point containing logical devices and supported by
PCM.
When importing SCL fies that are used with COM 6xx empty
bays called Busbar1 may appear in the plant structure.
Deleting these bays will cause loss o unctionality, i the le is
exported back to COM 6xx related products.
It is recommended to use unique names (=captions) or
Substation, Voltage Level, Bay and IED. I not some unctionality
e.g. Signal Matrix Tool, SCL import/export, etc. will be lost.
I you receive ollowing error in the PCM output window: Login
ailed or user (null). Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL
Server connection, please contact SA-D or SA-T supportline.
Hotx is available by request.
CAP 531
Save the conguration data rom time to time when CAP 531 runs
in a Microsot Windows XP environment.
CAP 531 is an application built on Microsots COM technology
and when it runs in a Microsot Windows XP SP2 environment,
installation and registration might cause some problem depending
on the specic PCs rewall settings and authority settings. This
problem is induced by Microsots security Update policy.
There is a batch le available or proprer registration o the COM
application. Alternatively you can start C:\ProgramFiles\ABB\
PCM600\Bin\Tools\CAP531Tool\CommManager.exe manually.
Please dont check the Download PST conguration box when
downloading the graphical conguration to the IED. (This is a
eature o CAP 540 only).

PCM 600 Release Note
The CAP 531 compilation may take a airly long time on some
PCs. To be able to ully use other tools (e.g. the SMT tool), make
sure that the ExtCompNet process has nished beore the CAP
531application is closed.
Its not allowed to use apostrophes () in any o the name elds in
the CAP 531.
Disturbance Handling Tool
The le ormat o the disturbance recorder les depends on the
IED or the IED Connectivity Package. The COMTRADE ormat
produced by IED670s ollows the IEC 60255-24:2001 standard.
I you wish to use an external evaluation tool to open these
disturbance recorder les rom PCM 600, you need to have a tool
that supports both standards, or example E_wineve 1.1.1.
When you use scheduled uploading o disturbance recorder les,
you have to stop the scheduler beore you start operating the IED
manually.
Signal Matrix Tool (SMT)
Beore using SMT, it is important to make sure, that each
Substation, Voltage Level under substation and Bay under voltage
level has a unique caption within the same level objects. As the
system scl is exported as input or the SMT at start-up, duplicate
names cause the resulting system-SCL to be decient.
SCL Handling
I LN-types o the Logical Device are changed between exporting
the SCD-le rom PCM 600 and importing it back, the NamPlt.
congRevision o the LN0 should be updated (=increased). I this
is not done, the IEDs/LDs in question should be removed rom
the SCD-le beore importing it back to PCM 600.
