The Toledo Museum of Art (Ohio) has acquired Spiegel (Mirror), a monumental, two-part stainless steel sculpture by the Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa. The word spiegel means reflective image or mirror in German. Plensa’s Spiegel features two identical figures mirroring one another

Jaume Plensa (Spain, 1955) Roots, 2014 Montreal CanadaHis large-scale sculptures are often conceived as transparent structures that blend in with the context of the local landscape. ‘House of knowledge’ is a central outdoor piece that utilizes steel letters to build a large human body, transforming the sculpture into architecture in which visitors can step in to. Many of the work incorporate light, sound and text elements to illustrate the notion of space in an immersive fashion

Jaume Plensa Alchemist Boston

Alchemist is related to other work by Plensa, which are made of stainless steel letters of the alphabet randomly arranged, painted white and arranged in the shape of a seated person with your knees up to your chest. However, instead of letters, the work of Plensa for MIT is created by numerical symbols, as a “tribute to all researchers and scientists” who have contributed to scientific knowledge and mathematics

Jaume Plensa, the famous

Catalan sculptor behind Alchemist, has made several similar sculptures. His works Roots, Nomad, House of

memory 2012, Body of

Knowledge, Mirror 2012,Soul 2011, they all use

the same body structure as the Alchemist, but

are composed of different symbols.
