Anything will float if it is less dense than water. As long as a boat is not too heavyfor its size, the push of the water upwards will be sufficient enough to balance the weight
of the boat and keep it floating on the water surface. Some oil tankers are more than the
size of two football fields. They are very heavy and they occupy a very large space. This
helps to reduce the density of the tanker and makes the tanker lighter that water.

A the oil helps it to float
B it is less dense that water
C water is less dense than an oil tanker

More than two-thirds of all astronauts suffer from motion sickness while travelling
in space. In the gravity-free environment, the body is unable to distinguish up from down.
The body internal balance system is upset and it transmits confusing signals to the brains.
The result of this is nausea that can last a few days. Deprived of gravity, the bodys
experiences changes in the distribution of body fluids. Excess body fluid can end up in theface, neck, chest, etc., thus resulting in a puffy face, bulging neck veins and enlarged
heart. Furthermore, they also suffer from loss of muscles mass and bone density.
12. Based on the above excerpt, we can conclude that space travel can be
A. glamorous and exciting
B. an experience in motion
C. risky to the health of astronauts
D. a challenge for bodily fluids
Most communities treat wastewater before returning it to the environment. Atypical sewage plant handles the waste in several steps. In primary treatment, solid
materials are removed from the wastewater. The water passes through filters where it is
filtered before entering tanks where the heavy particles settle. In secondary treatment tobreak down wastes, bacteria are used. Finally, the water is treated with chorine to kill
disease-causing organisms.
Water and human wastes washed down sinks, toilets, baths and showers are calledsewage. This sewage contains disease-causing organisms, if untreated, they multiply
quickly. Once this untreated sewage comes into contact with drinking water, the
organisms make people very ill. Even treated sewage can pollute, for the remaining waste feeds the bacteria rivers,
lakes and ponds. These multiply using up the oxygen in the water. Then life in water, like
fish, cannot survive.

Matter can undergo two types of changes, physical and chemical. Physical changesare changes in physical properties such as volume or density, or changes in state such aschanges from solid to liquid or from liquid to gas. Physical changes occur without a
change in the composition of the particular substance. Chemical changes, on the other
hand, are those in which new substances with different compositions and properties areformed.

Electronic mail, or e-mail, is the term used to describe the tool that allows one
computer user to send a message to one or more computer users over a computernetwork in a digital form. It is very similar to our traditional mail system with post
boxes, post offices, envelopes and addresses. The difference is that instead of Post
Malaysia delivering your messages around the globe for you, messages are sent
electronically to other computer users via internet taking fraction of the time to get thereand, you do not have to walk to the letter box! Just as you can send attachments with
your letters in the normal post (snail mail) you can also send computer documents,
graphics, software or anything else that can be turned into a digital form attached to ane-mail message.

When you ride a roller coaster, it is pulled uphill first by a motor. As it is being
pulled, it is storing lots of potential energy. The potential energy is turned into kinetic
energy as gravity pulls you down the first hill. The further you go down the hill, the morepotential energy is changed into kinetic energy.
As you go up the next hill, kinetic energy is changed into potential energy againand the ride slows down. This conversion of kinetic to potential energy and vice versacontinues as you go up and down the hills, of which the first is the highest.

Artificial insemination (AI) is a process by which sperm are collected from the male,
processed, stored and artificially introduced into the female reproductive tract for thepurpose of conception. AI has become one of the most important techniques ever devised
for the genetic improvement of farm animals. It has been most widely used for breeding
dairy cattle and has made bulls of high genetic merit available to all.
17. Artificial insemination helps cattle industry to
A store collected sperm
B produce high breed bulls
C improve genetic engineering
D introduce artificial reproductive tract
If you climb a mountain you will notice that the temperature gets cooler as you gohigher. A regions elevation, or distance above sea level, affects it temperature. Earths
atmosphere acts as insulation that traps the Suns heat. At higher elevation, theatmosphere is thinner than it is at lower elevations. Thus, air temperatures tend to be
cooler.
The presence of mountains also affects rainfall patterns. Wind blowing towards oneside of the mountain is forced upwards by the mountains shape. As the air nears the top
of the mountain, it cools. When air cools, the moisture it contains falls as rain or snow.
By the time the cool air crosses over the top of the mountain, it has lost most of itsmoisture. The other side of the mountain receives much less precipitation.

Chemotherapy refers to the use of drugs to kill cancer cells. The drugs are given in
the form of shots or pills. Once they enter the bloodstream, they reach all parts of thebody. The drug attack cancer cells that have spread beyond the skin to the lymph nodes
and other organs. Sometimes, doctors prescribe chemotherapy after surgery to make sure
that any remaining cancer cells are destroyed.
19. What can we conclude from the information above?
A Chemotherapy is prescribed after the operation.
B Cancer can grow in any part of the human body.
C Chemotherapy is given only thorough shots and pills.
D The drug will reach the body only if it is given in shots.
20 Chemotherapy is used for

B treating bacteria and viruses in our body

Most hydraulic machines use some sort of incompressible fluid that is, a fluid at its
maximum density. Oil is the most common fluid for hydraulic machines. In a simple
hydraulic system, when a piston is pushed down on the oil, the oil transmits the original
force to another piston which is driven up.
21. According to the text, an incompressible fluid is a liquid at its

D thickest
Children never look exactly like either of their parents and brothers and sisters
rarely look exactly the same. This is because each child inherits a different mixtureof features from both parents. How they look depends on what they inherited. We
say there is variation between them. Variation in other living things can also becaused by what they eat, what they drink and how they live. For example, a person
who goes for weight training will have bigger muscles and plants which grew in the
sun are taller than plants kept in the shade. Trees and plants of the same speciestend to be more stunted at a higher altitude.
22. Based on the text, the followings are examples of environment variation except
A A tall plant kept in shade
B A weightlifter with bigger muscles
C A child with the fathers hair texture
D A stunted oak tree found in the ground
The average temperature in the Antarctic Peninsula has increased by about 40F
since the 1950s. During that same time, grasses have spread to new areas, penguin
colonies have relocated and some 3000 square miles of coastal ice shelves havedisintegrated. Is this the first sign of global warming, with ice melting down and
catastrophic rise in sea level? Most experts say no. According to them, it is a regionalwarming in an area with a highly variable climate.

answer from the options given.
Bernoullis principle is one of the fundamental laws governing the motion of
fluids. It states that an in flow velocity relates to a decrease in pressure and viceversa. Bernoullis principle is used in aerodynamics to explain the fall of an aeroplane
wing when it is in flight. An aeroplane wing is in such a way that air flows morerapidly over its upper surface than its lower one. This leads to a decrease in pressure on
the surface compared with the bottom surface. This resulting pressure difference
supplies the lift that the aircraft in flight. The velocity of the wind that strikes thesurface of an is close to zero near its wall. According to Bernoullis principle,
this would lead a rise in pressure that is relative to the pressure away from the object.
This results in wind forces that the objects must be designed to withstand.
