Pros
• Cost Saving - $3,000 less than the full qualification
• Less training - we can issue a statement of attainment to allow you to accredit once you complete the core units
Con’s
• No Graduate Diploma – you only get a statement of attainment for the core units
• Miss out on learning – four electives• Conditional FDRP status - Depending on
your other qualifications you may need to have and retain NMAS Accreditation in order to remain a FDRP
• Miss out on full qual. rate - Per unit fee for Grad Dip Level electives units is $1,200 so you save $1,800 by doing the full qual. Compared to picking up the additional units later.
Recognition of Prior Learning
$300 per unit
You must be able to provide evidence from the recent past that shows you have demonstrated the skills and knowledge you are seeking recognition of.
Types of evidence include:
• CV showing relevant work experience - it must be current or recent experience from the last year or two
• Letter from employer or other evidence from the workplace
• Qualifications, Courses and other formal and informal learning that is relevant
• An assessment discussion with one of our assessors to determine the depth of your understanding of the topic
Prerequisite Qualifications
Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who:
• hold an undergraduate degree or higher qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Law, Conflict Management, Dispute Resolution, Family Law Mediation or equivalent or
• hold accreditation under the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS) or
• hold the Mediation skill set from the Community Services Training Package (CHC) or
• can provide documented evidence of previous experience in a dispute resolution environment in a job role involving self-directed application of knowledge with substantial depth in some areas, exercise of independent judgement and decision-making, and a range of technical and other skills.
If you don't hold any of the above but would like to pursue a career in Family Dispute Resolution you may be able to complete the pathway program to become a NMAS Accredited Mediator.

3 Specialist training not generic•Mediation Institute is not an RTO and does not churn out generic training.
•We are specialist providers of mediation and communication skills training throughout Australia in partnership with an RTO. We do what we do best and they do what they do best.
4 Flexible in everything that matters to you•We’re flexible about the way you move through your course and how long you take. You can speed up or slow down with your studies as your life circumstances dictate.
•If you take longer to learn or can demonstrate skills quicker we’re OK with that. We won’t hold you back or prevent you from finishing. What matters to us is that you demonstrate competence.
5 You get real client contact and work experience•Mediation Institute provides you with work placement or if you are already working with a FDR service we provide you with a tailored work placement program that fits in with your workplace requirements.
•We don’t fudge on the mandatory 50 hour / Work with 5 families work placement requirements. If you have the time you’ll have the opportunity to do more hours of internship to build your experience prior to graduation.
