Tom Groenewald was a student of mine during his third year Construction and Green Architecture
modules of the BAS degree at the University of Witwatersrand during 2012.
Throughout these courses Tom was exposed to various issues involved within the construction
industry. He was exposed to an education in the performance of buildings and some
environmental issues of buildings as well as many design and construction issues around multi-
storey complex buildings as well as exploring the detail design of his solutions.
Tom was a good student that demonstrated effort in his assignments. He was interested in solving
the problems that his project presented and applied his mind in a creative manner. He approached
problems well, exploring interesting ways in which to tackle issues. His abilities grew throughout
the year’s training and his abilities became clear through his increasing competence at design
detail resolution.
I recommend Tom for a post graduate course in architecture. His passion for the profession is
clear and I believe he has the ability and flair to succeed in the next part of his education
