The United Nations Information Service in Vienna – as the responsible UN office for public information
activities for Hungary – is proud, happy and deeply honoured to be once again part of the Budapest
International Model United Nations. Model UNs have proved to be unique vehicles in engaging with
young people and making the work of the United Nations accessible to them. They start young people
on the road to involvement and participation in confronting our global challenges. Empowering young
people is a strategic imperative for the United Nations. The youth of today need to be the architects of
their own tomorrow. They must be given a chance to be active contributors. Model United Nations are
a perfect training ground to prepare young people to be able to take an active role in shaping the
global society they will live in and ultimately in creating a future they want.

THE ORGANISER SCHOOL
Eötvös József Gimnázium is one of the most prestigious secondary schools in Budapest. It is
in the 5th district of the capital, in Reáltanoda utca. With its legal predecessors, it is the
oldest non‐denominational school of Budapest and also the first school to have specified in
sciences (“realia”) and also the first Hungarian language high school to have specialised in
sciences. Since September 2010 it has been in its 157th school‐year now. In 2008 it was
awarded the title “A school which nurtures talent” by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
In this value‐oriented school both the personal and the professional qualities of the
students are taken care of. The majority of students gain admission to higher education
institutions of their first choice,. In order to equal the challenges they are made to work
very hard and meet systematically high standards. They are expected to think for
themselves, to draw conclusions from what they have learnt and to translate their
knowledge into practice. They are to learn at least one foreign language really well, acquire
the basics of another one and be prepared to read professional literature in a foreign
language. We find it important that they should maintain their curiosity in the world and be
able to work steadfastly for their own goals and also for those of the community, in the
interest of their fellow‐humans. With the help ot the parents we hope to prepare each of
our students for an active and happy full human life.
It was with regard to the above that we decided to join the MUN programme and
organise our own MUN conference under the name BIMUN.
“The task of the “real” school is to equip students with useable knowledge for real life so that they
can apply what they have learnt at school easily and reliably. No false document is of any use. Each
student is a living certificate. They must be able to prove in practice that they have learnt something
really useful at school and not just spent time sitting there.”
József Weiser, 1857
the first director
BIMUN SONG
Somebody once told me the world is gonna know me,
I'm starting as a MUN delegate.
It's looking like it's fun and a mission all at once:
For a week I will sleep in a host bed.
Well, it's session time and people are coming,
They're gonna be late so they'd better start running.
Committee session ain't short of fun,
But if your paper's shit your day is done.
Why is it so hard? Why don't you see?
I work as a 'chair' and not a 'back seat'.
What is it you still don't know?
I've told everything before.
Hey, now, you're an all star, get your game on, go play,
Hey, now, you're a MUN star, so you work hard, might get laid.
The rules are written in gold.
But no one really cares as I've been told.
It's a cool place, at night even cooler,
We finish work fast and we can leave sooner.
It's my turn now, I'm the speaker
But my brain is already like sliver.
Soon it's over, I don't wanna leave,
It's a feeling coming from within.
One more time, get on board!
Turn the volume up on the soundboard!
Hey, now, you're an all star, get your game on, go play,
Hey, now, you're a MUN star, so you work hard, might get laid.
The rules are written in gold.
But no one really cares as I've been told.
Hey, now, you're an all star, get your game on, go play,
Hey, now, you're a MUN star, so you work hard, might get laid.
The rules are written in gold.
But no one really cares---
Years later I asked: 'Could I go to Budapest?
I need to get myself back to that place.'
They said yep, what a concept,
Hungary's always ready for that,
Waiting for you with its grace.
Well, it's session time and people are coming,
They're gonna be late so they'd better start running.
A hard day's night ain't short of fun
You take some shots and your brain is done.
So much to do, so much to see
You won't get bored I can guarantee.
What is it you still don't know?
Listen, I'll tell you once more.
Hey, now, you're an all star, get your game on, go play,
Hey, now, you're a MUN star, so you work hard, might get laid.
The rules are written in gold.
But no one really cares as I've been told.

Hungarian is also known as a very expressive language, e.g. for sibling (any gender) we say ’testvér’ which means ’body-blood’ literally. It is spoken by 14 million worlwide.

D espite their brevity, the stories in this book have a certain amount of literary
merit. They also have the added advantage of saving us time, since they do
not require our attention for weeks on end. While the soft-boiled egg is boiling
or the number you are dialing answers (provided it is not engaged, of course)
you have ample time to read one of these short stories which, because of their
brevity, I have come to think of as one minute stories. You can read them
whatever your mood, whether you are sitting down or standing up, in fine
weather or foul. They make good reading even on a crowded bus. Most can
even be enjoyed on a walk.
Do pay attention to the titles, though. The author strove for brevity, which put a
special burden of responsibility on him when choosing the titles for his stories,
of which they form an organic part.
Do not stop at the titles, though! First the title, then the story. It's is the only
proper manner of handling.
Attention! If something is not clear to you, reread the story is question. If it is
still not clear to you, dump the story, the fault lies with the author. There are no
dim-witted readers, only badly written one-minute stories.
