There are different economic objectives between
employers and employees. Both sides have to
make a compromise in form of a collective
agreement. A collective agreement guarantees
planning reliability for both sides, prevents wage
dumping of employees and brings them wage
increases.

The works council represents employees
within the company. It is elected every four
years (next time in 2018) and negotiates the
interests of the employees with the employer
concerning working hours, working conditions
and the company’s social benefits. You can
offer oneself as a candidate. The law protects
and the trade union qualifies members of the
German works council.

Einstand, Geburtstag, Pausen
It’s a nice touch but no necessity to celebrate the start of one's new job and birthday with colleges. You can
join you’re colleges for having lunch. You can also spend your lunch break alone and leave factory premises.

Arbeitszeit
According to the working hour law you’re allowed to work up to 60 hours, provided that within a balancing
period of six calendar months or 24 weeks the average maximum work time of 8 hours daily is not exceeded.
You are not allowed to work longer and your boss can’t make you stay longer. Watch out your working time
and enjoy your working free time. It’s no nice touch to work longer than allowed or your colleges do.
