Boxing has been a favorable sport for the Thais, it is the national
honor for us to be the host of the 7th World University Boxing
Championship 2016 that draws people from across the globe.
Win or lose is not the key of the competition but friendship is the vital
part of the game and this will bring the true victory to mankind.
I would like to thank the organizer and participants for this remarkable
event that advances the sport and shed the light on the true fair competitions.
Let us enjoy the time in Chiang Mai
Dr. Surachai Chitpakdibadin

It is a great pleasure being here among some of the world's most
talented young athletes and witness the power of sport in bringing people
together while also strengthening individuals' efforts. The competition and
high caliber performances from all athletes have been both impressive and
inspiring.
Representing 7th World University Boxing Championship, I would like to
thank our two major sponsors, Bangchak Petroleum Public Company Limited
and GPP International Company Limited, along with all other sponsors who
made this year's championship possible. Also, my highest gratitude goes
out to those involved in the organizing committee for all your hard work.
This event could not be such a success without the help and dedication of
everyone involved, from FISU officials to volunteers, participants to parents.
Thank you everyone and let's enjoy these final days of competition!

One of the today’s highlights is the women flyweight bout (51 kgs) between Jutamas Raksataya from Thailand and
Angelika Gronska from Poland. In the first round, Gronska landed more punches than the Thai boxer. In the two subsequent
rounds, they equally traded punches, but Thailand edged out Poland by 2-1. Jutamas took the victory with the final score of
38-37, 38-37, and 37-38.
Another today’s highlight is men’s welterweight bout (69 kgs) between Alisa Sharifov from Russia and Dmitri Galagot
from Moldova. It was a vivid game as they both standing up against each other throughout the game. In the second round,
the Russian took the strong hook and got a cut at his left eyebrow, but he then successfully unleashed counterattack making
a cut his opponent’s eyebrow as well. In the last round, the Russian threw more punches and took the clear victory, 3-0, with
the final score of 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.
The 16th bout of the day was the welterweight fight (69 kgs) between Jian Gu, Chinese competitor and Eqzon Maliqaj,
Swiss boxer. The Chinese seemed to have the edge with the longer range punches over the opponent, but it turned out to
be Maliqaj who landed more punches at Gu’s face, resulting in a count in the first round. Gu, in the following round, still could
not hit the target, so the Swiss aggressively threw strong punches at Gu’s eyebrow leaving cuts. Maliqaj delivered a TKO in
this round.
Heavyweight bout (81 kgs) between Viacheslav Troian from Ukraine and Ali Akhmedov from Kazakhstan is another
impressive game. Troian, in the first round, chased down his opponent with rapid punches forcing Akhmedov to be able to only
wait for counterattack. The fighter from Kazakhstan could only do a few one-two combos. In the second round, Akhmedov,
standing his ground against the opponent, successfully landed a body blow with left hook beating him to the ground twice.
The Kazakh finally took the victory with a TKO in the second round.

Thailand aims to
take two gold medals at the 7th World University Boxing
Championship 2016 during October 3-8, 2016. The venue is
Chiang Mai University Convention Center. Ten Thai athletes,
eight male boxers and two female boxers, enter the competition.
“We have about 20 training days, and we hold training
session at Bangkok Thonburi University. The one-month session
is designed for building up strength for our boxers,” said Uthis
Sonsakuna, Thai boxing coach.
Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand aims to take
two gold medals at this championship, and the coaches aim to
take at least one medal. The team assures that they will try their
best as they are more than 100 percent ready—only lining up
for the weigh-in left. Nonetheless, the team also said that they
are prepared to face the consequences.
Slovenian coach,
Sašo Weix ler,
told us that it took 6
months to prepare
for this competition.
Before this, Slovenia
held the University
Boxing Championship to choose national representative. Luka
Majec (Men’s 75 kgs) was the only nominated athlete from
Slovenia for this 7th World University Boxing Championship.
When asked about the highest expectation, the coach said
that just only one victory would be good enough, and that
he was impressed with the good and proper preparation and
organization of the event.
