December 3, 2009 Lindsey Davidson Editor The Auburn Plainsman 255 Duncan Drive, Suite 1111 Auburn, AL 36849-‐5343 Dear Ms. Davidson: Jessica Smith stepped off the plane at JFK in complete awe. She had never been to New York City, let alone been treated like a celebrity. A limo took Jessica to her suite at The Plaza Hotel which over looked a scenic view of Central Park as a winter wonderland. She glanced out the window and said to her two best friends, “Wow! This really is a dream come true. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for us.” I think the story of Jessica Smith would be ideal for The Auburn Plainsman newspaper. Jessica is a junior at Auburn University majoring in Aerospace Engineering. She was the grand prize winner of a contest by shopping at Victoria’s Secret on Black Friday. The prize was an all expense paid trip to New York City. The package included front row seating to the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, a private dinner with Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks, a luxury suite at The Plaza Hotel, airfare courtesy of Delta Airlines and much more. This prize is worth over $20,000. She entered the contest by purchasing $50 worth of merchandise from Victoria’s Secret at The Village Mall. Her excitement was overwhelming when we contacted her to announce her winning. She began to cry knowing that her family would have never been able to provide or afford such an extravagant trip. We’re offering Jessica’s story exclusively to The Auburn Plainsman, so we would need to know fairly soon if you are interested. We can assure you that Jessica would cooperate fully with any writers or photographers you would assign. We also could help you arrange interviews with Jessica, her two friends and Victoria’s Secret staff involved in planning the event. If you are interested in interviewing Heidi Klum or Tyra Banks we would need at least two weeks notice. Please just let us know how we might help. Our direct phone line is 334-‐555-‐3377. We will call Dec. 10, to see if we might be of any help on a possible story on Jessica Smith. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Kelly Young Director of Public Relations

Mr. and Mrs. Al Winegar 3457 Thatch Avenue Auburn, AL 36832
Dear Al and Phyllis Winegar
Thank you for your contribution to this year’s Thanksgiving dinner event. Your $100 donation was essential in making the event a huge success. You helped to feed 120 hungry people. In all, we received $20,000 in donations and 100 volunteers were at the event. We were able to feed more than 2,200 local people in need and delivered meals to more than 1,000 shut-‐ins. The less fortunate were served turkey with gravy, sweet potatoes, creamed corn, green bean casserole, stuffing, cranberry sauce and sweet tea to drink. Families were brought together to share a home cooked meal. They were able to give thanks for their blessings and were able to share many laughs together making the event memorable to everyone involved.
Once again I would personally like to thank the both of you for your help. And we hope that you
continue to support The Samaritan House in our future endeavors to better the Auburn community.
Sincerely,
Kelly Young Director of Events and Communication

Share Your Thanksgiving Wealth! Sept. 1, 2009 Dear Ms. Waters: Thanksgiving is a time to sit around a table eating a feast with your family and friends. But have you ever considered what it would be like without a Thanksgiving meal in front of you? It is hard for some people to imagine not being able to afford this special meal. Last year the Samaritan House served more than 2,000 needy people in our community. This included many senior citizens, single mothers and their children and young families who might have otherwise gone hungry. In addition, 1,000 meals are delivered to men and women who cannot leave their homes due to age, illness or disability. So in total the Samaritan House around the US serves meals to over 300,000 hungry people during Thanksgiving. It is now September and we are gearing up for the big Thanksgiving dinner event, where those who need it most are treated to a holiday meal. Community donations are vital for this event and provide more than 75 percent of the total funding needed. We would really appreciate any donation. Even the smallest bit of spare change could help feed a hungry person during this holiday season. For only $2 you will feed one person and up to $50 will feed 60 people. Maybe this is not something you would ever consider unless you were in their position. How would you feel if something tragic happened that caused you to not be able to provide a Thanksgiving dinner? This is a great opportunity to help your community without realizing the impact you could have on just one life. Contributions may be sent through direct mail using the address above or log on to the donation Web site www.donateauburnsamaritanhouse.com. If you have any questions do not hesitate to call. Thank you, Kelly Young Director of Events and Communication P.S. Angelina Jolie makes an appearance at a Thanksgiving meal because she says “it is so close to my heart.”

Letters to the Editor The Auburn Plainsman 255 Duncan Drive, Suite 1111 Auburn, AL 36849-‐5343 To the Editor: On behalf of The Samaritan House we would like to thank the community of Auburn for your financial and volunteer support from this year’s Thanksgiving dinner event. We received $20,000 in donations and 100 volunteers were at the event. They were able to give thanks for their blessings and were able to share many laughs together making the event a success. For those individuals in the community who were not able to help with our Thanksgiving event and would like the opportunity to support The Samaritan House, this month’s Christmas toy drive is a way to spread Christmas cheer. We want to help needy kids in Auburn by providing each child with two toys to open Christmas morning. Toy drop boxes will be located around the city to put donations in. Any monetary donations made will go to the purchase of children’s toys and may be sent directly to the Samaritan House. Once again we would like to thank the wonderful community of Auburn for helping us provide a fantastic Thanksgiving meal to the needy and we hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Sincerely, Kelly Young Director of Events and Communication
