Nant Ffrancon Brownies from Bethesda are celebrating after they received a Big Lottery Fund Awards for All grant.
The grant of £1,036 will help the unit to fund a number of events and activities. This includes many 'firsts' for the 25 Brownies, which include a Brownie sleepover, crazy climb, low ropes course and mountain walks. New resources such as a play parachute, crafts and cookery items are also in the pipeline thanks to the funding.
Nant Francon Brownies Receive Big Lottery Grant
Caitlin Price, 9, said: ''I can't wait to go to Crazy climb, I've never been climbing before so this is really exciting".
Leader Lucy O’Donnell said, “We are absolutely delighted that the Big Lottery Fund is supporting Nant Ffrancon Brownies. We are a fairly new group, we've been running for a year now and already full with a waiting list of girls wanting to join - so this money will do so much for us. I'd really encourage other Units to apply.”

Take your shoes and socks off and walk over pebbles, through bark and sawdust, across “crystals” and through gloopy mud! Some sort of Senior Section challenge for International Selection? No! This was the first (and most popular) challenge faced by 1st and 2nd Chepstow Rainbows on their visit to The Wild Place near Bristol. The “Barefoot Walk” was definitely the most popular part of our visit, undertaken as part of the Rainbow Big Brownie Birthday Challenge. A close second was seeing the baby lemurs being fed, plus, of course, having a picnic lunch and visiting the shop. Not to forget the “meadow”. How many times in your life do you get to run through grass almost as high as you? “The best bit was the gooey mud on the barefoot walk” said Freya. “The baby lemurs were soooooo cute” said Evie. “I thought zebras were make believe but now I know they’re real!” said Mollie.

Guides from across Wales were dazzled by some of the biggest names in UK pop as they headed to Wembley Arena for Girlguiding’s BIG GIG on Saturday, 4 October 2014.
The Guides joined a girl-only crowd of more than 10,000 at the event, held exclusively for Girlguiding members from all over the UK.
The girls, all aged between 10 and 14, enjoyed performances from a stellar line-up including chart toppers - Little Mix, Tinie Tempah and Rita Ora; street dance superstars - Diversity, girl group - Neon Jungle and four-piece boyband Union J.
Unit Leaders, Rachel Morris from Swansea and fellow Guide Leaders led the girls on their adventure to Wembley in London.
She added: “This was the girl’s first real adventure with Guides as this is the first year that our unit has been running. The girls
hadn’t been to a live gig in such a huge
venue before. Being surrounded by so many
other Guides made the atmosphere even
more special! The girls had a fantastic day
and they cannot wait to do it all again next
year!”

3rd Milford Haven Rainbows opened at the beginning of the year and received a new unit grant to help them on their way. This proved to be a great help in setting up the new Rainbow Unit. The first meeting opened with 18 Rainbows and by the 20th February they had 25 girls. After spring '14 they had 28 girls so the Leader decided to split the group and run two sessions one after the other as she felt smaller groups at Rainbow age would be better for all. Now they have two parallel groups with 17 in one and 14 in the other. The Leader, Julie has been amazed by the need for Rainbows in the area. She decided to start a Rainbow Unit as her grand-daughter was on such a long waiting list that she would have been of Brownie age by the time she had a place. Julie is so glad she did and enjoys every minute. The sad thing for her now is that they now have a waiting list and that was the last thing they wanted although they are hoping this will only mean a delay of a term for the girls on the list. The Rainbows have had a very enjoyable first two terms adults and girls alike. Their highlight was a day trip to Clerkenhill Adventure Farm Park and the photos below show what a good time
the girls had.
