6. GLENWOOD PRIVAAT SKOOL IN GEORGE SE BYDRAE TOT
CALITZDORP DROOM PROJEK
Hier is
skole. Calitzdorp Hoërskool bied elke jaar hul steun aan Glenwood tydens
hul jaarlikse Glenwood Karoo Challenge. Baie goeie bande is
opgemerk toe hul alreeds in
Seweweekspoort trek. Maggie
moet nou maar die volle 18 dae
saamtoer. Sy doen dit natuurlik
sonder enige aanmoediging, want
as die eerste voertuig se sleutel
draai, sit sal al opgewonde en
uitkyk by die venster!
Glenwood vertrek na Calitzdorp
Spa. Ons sien baie uit na die
volgende ontmoeting.

boards, puzzles, etc are needed for this sociability. If you are able to help with this please contact Erina at the
Tourism office (044) 2133 775. The items may be second hand, but in good condition.
3. CANSA NEEDS YOUR OLD CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS Please contact Juanita Pretorius of Cansa if you have any old Christmas tree decorations to donate. On the 1
st
of December, during the Standard Bank Calitzdorp Apricot weekend, Cansa wants to make use of the
opportunity to spoil the town's children that evening with a decorated Christmas tree next to the DR church, at
the back of the new supermarket. The children will entertain us with singing, dancing, etc. Contact Juanita at:
076 751 3198.
4. CHILDREN ON THE STREET
As before, we attach a poster to put up at your business to encourage the public not to give money to beggars
and children on the streets. This action is supported by the ACVV and the disadvantages of begging mentioned
on the poster. The Western Cape has a comprehensive social grant system and many professional and
specialised organisations to help. Please help our children by not supporting them with money or food.
On the 6th
of October 2012, 7 local volunteers met with Ruth and Gaimorian of the ACVV to discuss the
begging problem in town. There are 12 names of children on the "problem" list. The list was divided between
the volunteers to visit the homes of the children. Reports of each visit will be handed in at the ACVV to
determine the circumstances they live in. Visits will be repeated if necessary. Feedback on the visits and
actions that will follow will be discussed at the next ACVV meeting on the 21st of November.
8. MARKET AT OLD STATION – 10 NOVEMBER 2012
The market at the Old Station is growing every month. This time the Dream Project sold cuttings to raise funds
for big trees for the town; we've made enough profit to buy three big trees.
The next market will take place on 8 December at the Old Station; it will be the Christmas market as well.

9. GLENWOOD PRIVATE SCHOOL IN GEORGE CONTRIBUTING TO
CALITZDORP DREAM PROJECT
43 Learners and 8 teachers from Glenwood private school in George tackled their yearly 18 days Karoo
Challenge and on 14 November 2012 on their 4th
day they stopped in Calitzdorp as usual. Here they are eager
to enter the DR Church to listen to the organ recitals done by Dr Noël Jean Creil. Moira Strauss and Erina
Meiring welcomed and accompanied them.
Rudigar Roman, head leader of Calitzdorp High School received this artistically painted bin from Glenwood private school as their contribution to our Calitzdorp Dream Project. One of the school's own bins has been used
as a reminder of the good bond between the two schools. Calitzdorp High School gives their support every year to Glenwood during their yearly Glenwood Karoo Challenge. Many
good bonds have been made between the two schools. Early in the new year they will compete against each other in rugby, chess and much more. We are
looking forward to bond with more towns in the future.
The Glenwood team review their
bikes before they leave for
Calitzdorp Spa.
Maggie, the exhausted lucky charm
of Glenwood, secretly followed
them from the Hel. The team only
noticed it when they were in
Seweweekspoort. Maggie must
now travel with them the whole 18
days. She does it without any
encouragement of course, because
as soon as the first vehicle's key
turns she already sits with great
anticipation looking out the
window!
Glenwood leaving for Calitzdorp
Spa. We are looking forward to the
next meeting.
