    Today the g u e r i l l a t e r r o r i s t s who

    have

    been

    encamped n

    the

    Lusaka

    area

    during the

    war

    are

    going back

    to

    t h e i r

    n a t i v e

    Rhodesia.

    The

    Rhodesians

    are gearing

    up to

    f i g h t t h e i r

    i d e o l o g i c a l b a t t l e s through

    p o l i t i c a l

    campaigns

    and the elective process.

    February

    28 has been selected as

    the date

    o r

    elections

    in Rhodesia

    to

    determine the

    new

    direction

    of that

    country.

    We ray that these

    e l e c t i o n s w i l l see a p o s i t i v e

    beginning

    f o r

    Rhodesia

    — hat there w i l l t r u l y be an end to the

    ravages of war.

    We ray h a t t h i s new

    atmosphere of

    ho pe

    i l l

    also mean a new ra

    n Rhodesia

    or

    the

    hristian

    churches/churches

    o f

    Christ. I n past

    years

    much

    of

    our greatest mission

    work

    has

    been done

    inside

    Rhodesia.

    We remember

    the

    great

    outreach

    going out from

    the Dadaya Mission,

Mashoko Mission and Chidamoyo Mission. The

    Christian

    Church had established schools,

    h o s p i t a l s

    and many

    churches

    i n s i d e Rhodesia.

    The

    war

    h o s t i l i t i e s meant that many

    of th e

    dedicated missionaries who

    ad

    given

    h e i r

    l i v e s

    to that f i e l d had to leave t h e f i e l d , close t he

    hospitals

    and

return to the U.S. They had i n

    places

    l e f t

    behind Christians who surely were

    able to

    carry

    on the work

    of

    the Church. They

    also l e f t behind struggling congregations who

    need more nurturing. I

    am sure

    they

    also

    l e f t

    behind

    h e i r hearts.

    We

    ray

    that now hese

    who

    have given

    so much o

    Rhodesia,who ave

    given

    t h e i r l i v e s for the

    proclamation

    of

    the

    Gospel n

    that land

    w i l l

    be

    able

    to

    return

    to arry

    on he

    ask

    God

    as

    called them into.

    The churches in

    Zambia

    have

    continued to

    grow

    uring the o n f l i c t

    and

    althoughsome ave

    had to

    evacuate

    certain

    areas of

    this

    country,

    missionaries are

    t i l l able

    to

    work in

    Zambia.

    At

the same time, though, much of what

    missionaries had been,

    able to do in t h e

    past,

    e s p e c i a l l y i n r u r a l areas, has had

    to

    be stopped.

    We pray

    that with

    t h i s

    cease f i r e

    and

    the

    departure of

    the u e r i l l a t e r r o r i s t s we

    i l l

    to resume much f this

    former work.

    am

    leading

    Women's

    Bible Study

    i n two

    churches

    each week.

    We've begun a study on

    Women

    of

    the Bible

    and

    how we

    can

    benefit

    from their

    examples.

    The

    Zambian women especially

    l i k e

    the lesson on

    Rebekah. We

    ead

    Genesis

    24and

    discussed

    her

    qualities

    to be c h osen

    as

    Isaac's

    wif e.

Then we alked about howwe an be more

    l i k e

    Rebekah.

    She

    orked hard (vs. 15),showed

    kindness to

    a

    h i r s t y stranger (vs.

    18),

    and even

    did

    more han she

was sked to do y offering to

    draw

    water

    for the camels (vs.

    19,

    20). She

    showed h o s p i t a l i t y (vs. 25)

    and

    even more

    importantly

    she

    was

    bedient

    to

    the

    voice

    of

    God

    (vs. 58). She was

    prepared

    to leave her parents

    and

    home mmediately.

    This

    story of

    Rebekah helps

    the

    women

    ereto

understand the importance of imme diate

    response to God. Like

    Rebekah,

    h e

    Zambian

    women are d i l i g e n t workers, hoeing the f i e l d s

    and caring

    for t h e i r

    families. They also show

    h o s p i t a l i t y

    by serving t h e i r guests

    the

    best f o o d

    (usually chicken f r i e d i n o i l with

    tomatoes

    and

    onions). They can see

    they have many of the

good qualities that Rebekah had n her

    i f e .

    And

    many

    re t r i v i n g to be obedient to Go d 's i l l f or

their lives, even as Rebekah was.

    When Jesus

    called

    h i s disciples they

    immediately l e f t everything and followed hi m

    ( Ma t t h e w

    4:18-22).

    When Jesus a l l s we ave to

    respond at once.

    Many days we l i k e

    to

    have

    pancakes f or

    breakfast.

    Here i s

    how

    make syrup.

    Maple

    Syrup

    Combine n

    saucepan:

    1%cup white sugar

    7 4 cup brown sugar

    1

    cup

    water

    Bring

    to

    a

    o i l , cover, and

    cook minute.

    Cool5 inutes.

    Add:

    V i teaspoon v a n i l l a

    teaspoon m a p l e

    flavoring

    I n Zambia, the children

    a l l

    wear uniforms to

    school.

    The

    g i r l s wear dresses and the young

    boys wear s h o r t s and s h i r t s .

    Older

    boys wear

    long

    trousers

    and

    s h i r t s .

    Each school has a

    d i f f e r e n t

    color

    uniform. Most of the students

    walk

    t o school so they must get up v e r y

    e a r l y

    to

    f i n i s h

    breakfast

    and get to school

    o n

    time. Fo r

    b r e a k f a s t

    they e a t

    cooked r i c e

    w i t h sugar or

    porridge

    made

    with

    mealie meal.

    Many of the

    students

    speak an African

    language a t home and l e a r n t o speak

    E n g l i s h

    a t

    school.

    Then

    hey

    can learn

    to

    read.

    Their

    bo oks

    look

    much l i k e

yours, but the stories are about

    elephants,

    hippos, snakes goats, zebras, and

    l i o n s . There are many stories about

    the

    clever

    Kalulu ( r a b b i t ) and the

    Hippo.

    The Kalulu i s

    always doing

    something

    wrong

    and the

    Hippo

    gets n t r o u b l e . I n

    one t o r y

    the a l u l u was

    a t i n g

    the f a r m e r ' s maize (co rn) and the v i l l a g e men

thought t was Hippo. So hey

    chased

    Hippo o

    the

    i v e r

    and h e

    hid there

    n the

    water. Kalulu did

    not

    get

    i n

    trouble.

Did you ever know people who acted l i k e

    Kalulu?

    They always d i d bad t h i n g s ,

    but never

    got n

    trouble.

    Jesus

    e l l s us we

    must

    ove

    those

    people,

ven f they r y to hurt us. Read Matt hew

    5:44.

    But i s

    different?

    Many

    times we have drawn strength

    from fellowship with

    believers who have

    remained

    steadfast

    and l o y a l . One Christian

    woman hared with

    l i t t l e

children. Everyday she prayed, went o town to

    but

    there was

none to buy. When she returned

    back

    home

    there was mealie

    meal

    there

    someone

    had

    brought and

    wanted

    to

    share.

    For two weeks he

prayed, found none to buy. but

    at

    supper time

    there was lways some n

    the house. Finally

    she

    foundsome n a mall

    market.

    She s convinced

    the Lord had

    provided

    for

    her

    because

    she

    sked

    him to. Her a i t h

    was p l i f t e d as she

    earned to

    depend

    on the Lord and

    i v e

    from day to

    day.

    Another highlight was aster

    f

    the township churches

    A

    short

    the building so u l l ; many ere

    standing

    outside

looking i n the windows. Several decisions were

    made

    as a e s u l t

    of these

    meetings.
