引言

Introduction

根據《世界自然保護聯盟的瀕危物種紅皮書》統計，全球五萬多種受評估的生物中，有

多達一萬八千多種受瀕臨絕種威脅。近百年來，由於人類的干預，令物種滅絕的速度比

自然淘汰快了近 1,000 倍。科學家估計，如果環境持續惡化，未來物種滅絕的速度將會是

現時的 10 倍。

人類有何方法解決全球瀕危物種滅絕的危機？我們又可怎樣保護珍稀瀕危物種？如果問

題繼續惡化，會帶給人類什麼影響？

在全球珍稀瀕危物種面臨嚴峻的境況下，香港中央圖書館參考部特地編輯了「珍稀瀕危

生物」圖書館資源選介，讓讀者了可透過圖書館的館藏及互聯網資訊，了解及探討問題

所在。

According to the Red list of Threatened Species of the International Union for

Conservation of Nature and Natural Resource, more than 18,000 species out of 50,000

so far assessed are threatened with extinction. The species extinction rate is of great

concern. Every day species’ extinctions are continuing at up to 1,000 times or more the

natural rate found in the fossil record. If this situation is getting worse, the expected

extinction rate would reach to 10 times or more the current rate.

How can human solve the crisis involving endangered species? How can we protect

the rare and endangered species? If this situation keeps worsening, what are the

effects on human beings?

This selected library resources list on ―Rare and Endangered Species‖ was compiled

by the Hong Kong Central Reference Library with a view to introducing library

resources and web resources through which readers can understand and explore the

harsh situation of rare and endangered species in the world.
