1. Important notes on the installation of the on-board monitor andnavigation system

O nly for use within the BM W trading organisation.

Installation of the on-board m onitor and the navigation system may only be undertaken by aspecialist workshop which has available the necessary special tools and the required manuals(maintenance, repair, diagnostic, etc.).

When cables/leads are being installed, care should be taken to see that they do not getkinked or damaged.Additionally installed cables/leads should if necessary be fastened with cable straps.

Item numbers relate only to the overviews or to the text at the side of the associatedillustration.

All operations are represented as taking place on a left-hand drive vehicle, the identicallogical procedure must be followed for right-hand drive vehicles.

Electrical k nowledge is required.

T he control cable of the on-board monitor/C D changer does not form part of theinstallation k it and, in vehicles with C D changer without D S P amp lifier, must be orderedseparately as per the Electronics Parts C atalogue (EP C ).T he trim p anel in the boot at rear left in front of the navigation com puter does not form p art ofthe installation k it and must be ordered separately as per the Electronics Parts C atalogue(EP C ) to accord with the vehicle equipment

17. Coding and finalising operations

If the video mo dule and T V amplifiers forT V function are to be fitted additionally in thevehicle, the Coding and Finalising operations should be carried out after the video m oduleand T V amp lifiers forT V function have been fitted.

Coding

T his system is coding-relevant.

So that the retrofit system: is fully functiona l and in association with the other electrical vehicle system s excludes malfunctions and faults,

a coding of this retrofit system, and if necessary other vehicle comp onents, must be carriedout and stored in the central cod ing key of the IK E.

T his coding is carried out autom atically with the respective current coding p rogram me in the

"Retrofit" path.T he sequence is operator-guided and you should no te the relevant text instructions whencarrying out the individual steps.

Procedure:

C onnect D IS /M oD IC to the vehicle Ignition "ON" S election "Coding ZCS" C onfirm input data with "Y" (only with M oDIC ) Series: "E39" Path: "2 Retrofit"

System: "7 Navigation"

A "Navigation CD-ROM Operating software V16" is necessary for loading the operatingsystem.

Caution! D o not put the C D -R O M "Operating software V16" in the C D drive yet! Put theC D -R O M "Operating software V16" in only when told to do so on the on-boa rd m onitor.T he language coding is carried out simultaneously with this C D -R O M "Operating softwareV16" .

T his chapter should only be taken note of if the vehicle is to be additionally equipped withT V function.

To be in a p osition to equip the vehicle with T V function, the necessary parts (video m odule,T V am plifiers, small parts) have to be ordered separately with reference to the Electronic PartsC atalogue (EP C ) and fitted.

T he relevant branch cables of the wiring harnesses have also to be connected as follows:
