Solatium by Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi J Jayalalithaa, condoled the death of a worker Dimple Shah at the St. Thomas Mount station worksite mishap on 10-01-13 and announced from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund a solatium of Rs. 1 lakh to the family of the deceased and Rs.25, 000/- each to the two injured with a 'get-well soon' message. The solatium announced was given to the victim’s family and the two injured workers by CMRL. CMRL expresses its condolences to the family of the deceased and wishes speedy recovery of the injured
Review by Hon’ble Minister for Industries Hon’ble Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. P. Thangamani, reviewed the progress of implementation of Chennai Metro Rail Project at Secretariat, Chennai on 30-1-2013. A power point presentation regarding the progress of Metro Rail works was made during the review meeting. Secretary, Special Initiatives and Managing Director and all the Chief General Managers of CMRL attend-ed the review meeting.
Site Visit by Chairman, CMRL. CMRL Chairman Dr. Sudhir Krishna, IAS., Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Urban Development. visited the St. Thomas Mount station work site on 07-1-13 and enquired about the progress of work at this site. MD,CMRL, the Directors and other higher officials of CMRL accompanied the Chairman during the visit.

1. Two TBMs launched from Washermenpet towards Mannadi. TBM 01 has completed 627m drive and TBM 02 has completed 92m drive; Maximum advance of 35m a day has been achieved.
2. 1st TBM has completed 360m from Nehru Park towards Egmore station . 2nd TBM complet-ed 310m drive.

Track works in progress
Total Length of Track-plinth concreting done between Vadapalani and Koyambedu station is 5350 Tr.mtr and from Sidco to Vadapalani is 3417 Tr.mtr. A total of 8767 Tr.mtr track laying has been completed.

Rolling Stock progress as on 31st January 2013 Progress in manufacturing of train
Manufacturing of the first train consisting of 4 cars is completed in the second week of January. The train is now moved to the testing line of the factory. The pre-validation tests are under progress for first train which will be completed by February 2013. Continuous static type tests would be carried out on the first train from the first week of February 2013. Some mechanical tests have already been carried out.
CMRL/GC team will be put to witness the tests, checks and confirm the quality. On completion of the static type tests, train will be packed and shipped to Chennai which will be subjected to clearance by CMRL/GC. Production of the second to fourth trains is in progress. Production of car shells is completed for the 2nd and 3rd trains, whereas it is in progress for the 4th train. Electrical wiring is on progress on the second train and piping related works are progressing on the third train. Most of the sub-systems and equipments are received for second and third train. The remaining equipment's are either partially re-ceived or being shipped to Lapa. All the major equipments fitted into the train are checked for quality separately prior to fitment at their manufacturer’s place which is wit-nessed by CMRL/ GC officials. Accordingly, First Article Inspection (FAI) and type tests o f m o s t o f t h e m w e r e c o m p l e t e d i n N o v e m b e r 2 0 1 2 . Transfer of Technology and Progress in production of trains in India Construction activities of new factory and transfer of technology to the new Rolling stock factory in Sri City are progressing well. The activities related to manufacturing in Sricity at different work stations were started in October-12, with sub-assembly received from Bra-zil. Piece and part manufactured in Alstom Brazil for two train sets were completed.
Safety month celebrated at CMRL package UAA – 04 (L&T SUCG JV).
Safety month was celebrated at CMRL package UAA-04 (L&T SUCG JV) on 04-01-13 by inaugurating the event with hoisting the Safety flag . Several Events were conducted for the month of January to mark the Safety month which included 1. Slogan & Quiz competitions for workers & staff, 2. Training programs, Other activities like CSR activities such as Road safety and Health awareness campaigns, Tree saplings, Blood donations and distribution of essential items to Blind school and Differently abled children and Chennai City Traffic police were also conducted. SELF DEFENSIVE TRAINING CONDUCTED
UAA – 04 package L&T-SUCG JV conducted ―SELF DEFENSIVE TRAINING‖ to all their Transit Mixer Vehicle drivers. Around 30 people from Indian Road Transport , a central govt agency participated in this training. Topics cov-ered during the training are .Best safe practices to be followed by drivers.1. Road Safety and Traffic education. 2. Importance of observing Lane discipline. 3. Motor vehicle Acts related to drivers ( CMVR 1989). 4. Avoidance of vehicle emergencies. 5. Ill effects of driving vehicles under the influence of drugs and alcohol. 6. Road Rules and regula-tions including the mandatory legal documents to be carried by drivers.etc.. 7. Case studies video shows The Safety Management workshop held at the CMRL office on 19-1-13 .
The workshop was initiated by the Managing Director of CMRL Thiru . K Rajaraman, IAS., by discussing the issues of safety at Chennai Station sites across the corridor. The Chief Safety Expert – GC – Mr. Martyn Gomersall emphasised the importance of safety in the Station Rail sites. Several topics were discussed at the workshop viz., Safety strategies, Challenges faced, learning from incidents, observation, etc. The views of the safety officers were also discussed during the Workshop. GM (UG) and GM (EC) of CMRL, officials of CMRL and GC, Directors, Project Managers, Safety Managers and Resident Engineers from the Contractors side participated in the Workshop.

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. participates in the TTDC 39th India Tourist &
Industrial Fair 2013.
The Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. has participated in the TTDC 39th India Tourist &
Industrial Fair 2013 presently being held at Island Grounds, Chennai by putting up
a pavilion. Several photographs of the on-going works of CMRL, Route maps and
other general information are displayed for viewing by the public. An Audio-Visual
presentation is also being arranged in the pavilion about Chennai Metro Rail
Project. The pavilion is located near the War Memorial entrance next to Chennai
Port Trust. Public can get more information about CMRL works from the
exhibits displayed at the Fair.
