Essential, instant, reliable power
Not only must the lighting be restored seamlessly at the first sign of a problem; theemergency system must also be able to maintain an acceptable lux level (brightness)for long enough to allow people to leave the premises safely. In most cases this islikely to be either one hour or three hours.

Effekta systems in high-risk task areas
For areas which are considered high risk, therequired light levels are significantly higher than forgeneral emergency lighting. This is difficult toachieve using self-contained light fittings as thelight output is reduced when in battery mode(mains failure).
An Effekta static inverter system will maintain lightlevels at maximum brightness during a mainsfailure, dramatically reducing the risk of injury.
Effekta systems and ATEX
Emergency lighting is a requirement in areas wherethere is a high risk of explosion. ATEX-approvedself-contained fittings are expensive and, if used inareas with high ceilings and where high-levels ofemergency light are required by law, often can’tproduce the output levels required.
In this scenario, standard ATEX fittings can be usedwith a remote Effekta static inverter, where thestatic inverter is removed from the ATEX area to asafe remote plant / switch room.
Effekta systems and LED lighting
LED light fittings are increasingly being used innew-build as well as refurbish projects. Effektastatic inverters are well suited to LED installationsas there is often no space for local battery packs,which are typically pushed through the ceilingcavity. This makes maintenance of these types offittings awkward as lamps need to be removed togain access to the battery pack.
We have installed many static inverters with LEDlighting connected, and have successfully dealtwith a wide variety of existing set-ups (includingpoor power factors, high harmonics, and highinrush currents).

Effekta systems and interior designWhen using an Effekta static inverter, architects anddesigners have the freedom to choose any type oflight fitting to suit any modern or period typelighting requirement.

The Effekta EF 5 ELI performsautomatic load tests of theluminaires by monitoring the currentthey draw. There is no requirementfor additional control wiring makingthe EF5 system a very cost-effectivealternative to a fully addressableinstallation.
Ratings start at 150VA increasing to1500VA and can be used withstandard mains light fittings. Fourfused load paths with earth leakagedetection can be monitored givingthe user defined areas in which toeasily locate faulty luminaires. Loadflexibility allows any one load line tobe maintained, non-maintained orswitched.

The Effekta EF 20 CBS is a product designed to replacelegacy central battery systems which typically requireoutput voltages of 50, 110 or 220 volts. This type ofsystem provides AC during mains operation, reverting toDC during mains failure. With smaller systems, thebatteries are housed within the system enclosure withseparate battery enclosures for larger systems.
The Effekta EF 20 ELI offers single or optional three-phase input with single-phase output.
The Effekta EF 33 ELI offers three-phase input with truethree-phase output.
Systems can be configured as either passive or activestandby and with contactor or static switch changeover(suitable for discharge lamps). In addition, high faultclearance can be achieved by configuring the output stageto suit the required fault current. With smaller systems, thebatteries are housed within the system enclosure withseparate battery enclosures or cladded battery stands forlarger systems.

Powervamp and the Effekta RangeIn 2011, Powervamp merged with Effekta UKLtd, a company established in 1998 tomanufacture its own central battery invertersystems, static frequency converters andbespoke uninterruptible power supplies.
Its initial highly successful EF20 single-phasefrequency converter was soon augmented bythe EF33, a three-phase product, and by a90kVA 400Hz ground power unit (GPU).
