Enhancing ELL Instruction
Integrating 21st Century Skills into the Classroom
Portable credential declaring proficiency in a particular area of study

Credentials help to strengthen teachers’ ability to be mobile in the work environment
Cost-effective alternative to a degree program
For the state of Colorado, ELL students make up approximately 10% of Colorado’s K-12 school population (CDE, 2009).
“There is a marked shortage of teachers certified to teach ELLs. Fewer than one in five teachers who currently serve these students are certified to teach them.”

Each course is 15 hours/1 graduate credit and take 3 weeks to complete online. Must complete all 5 courses within 2 years to receive the certificate.

Colorado Department of Education is endorsing the ELL certificate program to members
CDE funded 43 ELL course scholarships
143 total local ELL course enrollments

Contact districts with growing ELL populations in rural and urban areas of the state
Focused on teaching methods that help students develop 21st Century Skills. Teachers completing this certificate program will take courses that incorporate the following essential abilities students must apply in our fast-changing world:

Each course is 30 hours/2 graduate credit and take 6 weeks to complete online. Must complete 4 of the 9 courses within 2 years to receive the certificate.
To be awarded the certificate, teachers must meet the following criteria:

Colorado Spring District 11 is funding district teachers participation in “Communicate and Collaborate Online” this spring (estimated 14 scholarships)
