    PREDGOVOR

Masline naslikane tijekom podnevnog ljetnog sunca zrače kroz bljeskove crvene boje i zamagljene oblike, izražavajući jasnoću koncepta.

The watercolour and oil paintings by Emil Robert Tanay show the versatility of an artist who is wholly in tune with his mediums. The paintings exhibited here range from abstract and expressionist works to topographical landscapes in harmonic colour chords, all unmistakably by the sensitive hand of Emil Robert Tanay.

Thematic compositions that frequently reoccur in the artist’s works are shown here: olive trees from the island of Hvar and townscapes in Stari Grad. It is interesting to note how individual each of these works are, considering the repetition of composition. However it is not a scene or an object that is the overarching content of these paintings. Rather, Emil Robert Tanay is a painter of light and time, warmth and coolness. It is truly beautiful to note the subtle infl ections of tone in the sea watercolours that indicate the changing sun, from dawn to dusk.

Likewise, the townscapes of Stari Grad show the dazzling pastel colours that blend the stone walls on summer mornings, and the deep greens and blues of the evening rejected between the trees and Adriatic Sea. These watercolours are accomplished with a great understanding for the medium. Paintbrush, paint and paper are all equal tools in allowing the spontaneity and vivacity of water to blend with authors exquisite use of colour. The oil paintings are equally as expressive, the weight of the medium used to create texture and drama on the canvas. The olive trees painted during the summer midday sun radiate the trickling and hostile heat through ashes of red and hazed forms.
