Blinddog Smokin’ “High Steppin’”. Silver Talon / Blues Boulevard 2015. En este último álbum los Blinddog Smokin’ nos presentan nueve temas a cual mejor, que son un calidoscopio de estilos tan variados como dispares al tiempo que entroncados todos ellos en la música negra y que van del rock and roll más primitivo al juke joint blues, pasando por el jazz de New Orleans y la soul dance music. Todos estos estilos se mezclan en nuestros oídos de forma sosegada y con una alegría muy vital. La banda se sustenta en dos pilares fundamentales como son su cálido ‘hot and greasy funk’ y, por supuesto, en la forma de cantar y abordar el repertorio de su carismático líder Carl Gustavson. De hecho Carl se define a si mismo como aventurero, viajero, ciudadano del mundo y filósofo que desea plasmar de forma fidedigna en todas y cada una de las canciones sus convicciones, escribiendo además una especie de diario o ideario en el que relata a la manera de los actuales ‘story tellers’, las aventuras y desventuras que acontecen diariamente tanto a él como a su banda y este diario lo titula “Tales Well Told” que posteriormente han dado como resultado la publicación de un libro. Además de su grupo Carl Gustavson cuenta como invitados adicionales a músicos del calibre de Billy Branch o Shane Theriot. Un excelente trabajo, variado, creativo y muy acertado. MUY BUENO. The Blinddog Smokin' have gathered nine real good songs for their last album, which becomes a kaleidoscope of varied and diverse styles, all them deeply rooted in black music, which cover from rock and roll to the most primitive juke joint blues, New Orleans jazz or soul dance music. All these styles come to our ears with a calm joyful and vital air. The band personality is based on two fundamental pillars, a warm hot and greasy funk and, of course, the special singing and the original way to approach the repertoire of his charismatic leader Carl Gustavson. In fact Carl defines himself as an adventurer, world traveller and philosopher who wants to spread his deep convictions in a trustworthy way in every song he plays. Besides, he also runs a kind of diary entitled “Tales Well Told”, where he explains as an actual story teller the band’s adventures and misadventures that daily happen to them, which subsequently has finished on a book. For this album, Carl Gustavson and his band have also counted with excellent guest musicians like Billy Branch or Shane Theriot. In short words, this is an excellent, varied, creative and very successful work. GREAT.

The Betty Fox Band “Slow Burn”. Self Production 2015. Con un amplio bagaje en el campo del gospel blanco con momentos más brillantes que otros y una enorme pasión por la música soul, la vocalista Betty Fox ha seducido a las más variadas audiencias, todo ello gracias a sus buenas cualidades vocales y también a su presencia escénica. Ahora Betty Fox nos presenta su segundo disco, para el que ha seleccionado cuidadosamente a unos músicos muy capacitados para poder dar forma y plasmar una colección de temas que, por supuesto, Betty ha escogido con cuidado y esmero. Los músicos en cuestión son Kid Royal a la guitarra, Barry Williams al bajo y Sam Farmer a la batería, unos instrumentistas con los que sin duda alguna Betty se siente totalmente a gusto y muy bien respaldada para poder dar lo mejor de si misma y conseguir así crear un clima y una complicidad altamente reconfortante, no solo entre los músicos que la acompañan, sino también para todos aquellos que quieran

acercarse a escuchar su música que, en ocasiones se convierte en volcánica, en otras ocasiones amable y en algunos momentos llenas de intimismo y poesía. El disco combina temas originales con diversos covers interpretados a la medida de sus posibilidades que son enormes, variadas y muy singulares. MUY BUENO. With an extensive background in white gospel that include more brilliant moments than others and an enormous and lifelong passion for soul music, singer Betty Fox has seduced the most varied audiences, thanks to her good vocal qualities and stage presence. Now Betty Fox brings us her second album, where she has carefully selected some able musicians to give shape and display a collection of songs Betty has chosen with care and thoroughness. The involved musicians are Kid Royal on guitar, Barry Williams on bass and Sam Farmer on drums, who she feels completely at ease, because they perfectly support Betty to give the best of herself and create a comforting complicity atmosphere, not only among the musicians who back her, but also among those who wish to listen to her music, which sometimes becomes hot and volcanic and sometimes is friendly with beautiful moments of introspection and poetry. The album combines original songs and some covers, performed with all Betty’s potential qualities, which are really huge, varied and unique. VERY GOOD.

John Ginty “No Filter”. American Showplace Music 2015. El teclista y organista de New Jersey John Ginty nos presenta su segundo trabajo titulado ‘No Filter’, grabado para la compañía American Showplace Music. Ginty acomete con profesionalidad y buenas maneras once temas no exentos de buen groove y excelente sonido. Actualmente John Ginty es uno de los organistas mas solicitados tanto como músico de sesión como también para realizar giras con otros músicos, la mayoría de ellos de mucho prestigio y renombre internacional al tiempo que tan dispares como Citizen Cope, Santana, Dixie Chicks, Bad Religion, Ron Sexsmith, Albert Castiglia o Los Lonely Boys además de ser miembro fundador de Robert Randolph & The Family Band. Como podéis observar su curriculum no puede dejar a nadie indiferente y puedo afirmar que este álbum tampoco lo hará cuando empecéis a degustarlo, ya que es pura dinamita. El disco incluye una serie de canciones oscuras y de gran profundidad estilística, presididas todas ellas por el sonido del Hammond B-3 y en ocasiones también del piano, siempre con el blues de base como transfondo sonoro. También colaboran una serie de prestigiosos instrumentistas como Cris Jacobs, Alexis P Suter, Jimmy Bennett, Cara Kelly y la leyenda del hip-hop Redman. MUY BUENO. New Jersey keyboard and organ player John Ginty, brings us his second work entitled “No Filter”, recorded for American Showplace Music. Ginty approaches with great professionalism and good taste eleven songs full of groove and an excellent sound. Now John Ginty is one of the most requested organ players both as a studio musician or going on tour with other prestigious and internationally renowned totally different musicians like Citizen Cope, Santana, Dixie Chicks, Bad Religion, Ron Sexsmith, Albert Castiglia or Los Lonely Boys, besides being founder member of Robert Randolph & The Family Band. As you can see his curriculum will not leave anyone indifferent and this album will not become an exception when you star to listen to it, because it is pure dynamite. The recording includes a bunch of dark songs of a great stylistic depth, all them headed by the Hammond B-3 sound, as well as some piano drops, always with the blues as

the base and the background frame. There are also a number of well known instrumentalists like Cris Jacobs, Alexis P Suter, Jimmy Bennett, Face Kelly and hip-hop legend Redman. GREAT.

Delta Deep “Delta Deep”. Mailboat 2015. Los Delta Deep son una poderosa y singular banda creada en el año 2012 por el cantante y virtuoso guitarrista Phil Collen. Phil había sido miembro de grupos de rock británico como Def Leppard o Manraze. Curiosamente Collen siempre había sentido una especial atracción por los blues. Y llegó el día en el que Phil decidió por fin liarse la manta a la cabeza y embarcarse en este proyecto, contando para ello con Robert DeLeo al bajo, Forrest Robinson a la batería y la señorita Debbi Blackwell-Cook como maravillosa vocalista, compartiendo el liderazgo vocal junto al propio Phil Collen. Y es que Debbi ha sido definida por la crítica especializada como una mezcla explosiva de Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan y hasta incluso Robert Plant, ahí es nada. El disco combina con gusto e inteligencia el oscuro blues sucio y desgarrado de los pantanos más profundos de la Louisiana, con incendiarios solos de guitarra de alto voltaje pirotécnico, todo ello bien fusionado con el más agresivo y visceral rock and roll del siglo XXI. Entre todo este entramado tampoco falta algún que otro sugestivo blues lento como el terrorífico “Burnt Sally”, un pedazo de lento que echa fuego tanto por la garganta de Debbi, como por las embestidas de guitarra de Phil Collen que dejarán al oyente abrumado y traspuesto. Un disco tan explosivo que es pura dinamita para los sentidos. MUY BUENO. The Delta Deep are a powerful and singular band formed in 2012 by singer and virtuoso guitar player Phil Collen. Phil had been member of some British rock groups as Def Leppard or Manraze. Collen had always felt a special attraction for the blues. And finally the day came where Phil decided to take the plunge and engage himself on this project, with Robert DeLeo on bass, Forrest Robinson on drums and Miss Debbi Blackwell-Cook as a wonderful singer, who shares the vocal leadership with Phil Collen. Debbie has been defined as an explosive mixture of Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and even Robert Plant, can you imagine? The recording cleverly combines with an amazing taste dark and dirty Louisiana swamp blues with high voltage incendiary and fireworks guitar solos, which perfectly match with the most aggressive passionate twenty-first century rock and roll. Among this framework you will also find some suggestive slow blues, like the terrifying "Burned Sally", a great song that throws fire out both by Debbi’s throat and the attack Phil Collen’s gives to his guitar, which will leave listeners totally exhausted and stunned. This is an explosive album that becomes pure dynamite for your senses. GREAT.

Canned Heat “Songs From The Road”. Ruf 2015 (CD+DVD). El mundo se mueve, las modas cambian, los grupos de música se crean y se disuelve… pero el hipnótico boogie no se puede parar tan fácilmente. Cincuenta años después que Bob ‘The Bear’ Hite y Alan ‘Blind Owl’ Wilson formaran los legendarios Canned Heat en Topanga Canyon, California, el espíritu de la banda todavía permanece vivo gracias al esfuerzo continuado de su batería Adolfo ‘Fito’ De La Parra, quien ha incorporado a grandes músicos como Larry ‘The Mole’ Taylor al bajo, Dale Spalding a la voz y armónica y John ‘JP’ Paulus a la guitarra en sustitución de Harvey ‘The Snake’ Mandel, quien precisamente se está recuperando de algunos problemas de salud. La aportación de los

Canned Heat al mundo del blues no tiene parangón por su inestimable e innegable e histórica valía, desde que Hite y Wilson fundaron el grupo en 1965, ya que además de grandes músicos todos sus integrantes eran unos enormes aficionados y ávidos coleccionistas de discos de blues. Ahora Ruf Records ha recogido en un cd y un dvd la actuación que ofrecieron en el club Bonn’s Harmonie de Alemania, enmarcado dentro de su gira europea ’50 Years Anniversary Tour’. Son un total de catorce canciones las que componen el cd y dieciséis las que pueden visionarse en el dvd. Tanto si sois fans de los Canned Heat como si los acabáis de conocer, sus boogies y blues os atraparán completamente, por lo que éste es uno de esos álbumes deben tener un lugar en vuestra colección de discos. MUY BUENO. The world moves on, fashions change, bands rise and fall… but the most hypnotic boogie cannot be easily stopped. Fifty years after Bob "The Bear" Hite and Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson formed the legendary band named Canned Heat in Topanga Canyon, California, the spirit of the group still remains alive thanks to the endless effort of the band drummer Adolfo 'Fito' De La Parra, who keeps the band alive and has recruited so great musicians like Larry 'The Mole' Taylor on bass, Dale Spalding on vocals and harmonica and John 'JP' Paulus on guitar replacing Harvey 'The Snake' Mandel, who is now recovering from some health problems. Canned Heat contribution to blues world is unique for his invaluable and undeniable historical value since the day Hite and Wilson founded the group in 1965, as not only were all them great musicians but also mad blues fans and avid blues record collectors. Now Ruf Records has gathered in a cd and a dvd the live show they performed at Bonn’s Harmonie club in Germany during their European tour entitled '50 Years Anniversary Tour'. Fourteen songs can be found in the cd while the dvd includes sixteen cuts. If you are Canned Heat deep fans or if you have just known them, his boogies and blues will totally catch you, so this is one of these albums that deserves a place in your record collection. GREAT.

Albert Cummings “Someone Like You”. Blind Pig 2015. La electrizante guitarra de Albert Cummings vuelve una vez más a cautivarnos en este “Someone Like You” grabado para el sello Blind Pig. Curiosamente Albert descubrió la música de la mano de su padre quien le enseño las primeras notas a la guitarra, empezando a tocar el banjo a los doce años y convirtiéndose en un fanático del bluegrass. Algo más tarde descubrió casualmente unos discos de Stevie Ray Vaughan y rápidamente quedó impresionado por la forma de tocar del maestro. Después de verlo en actuar en directo, Albert decidió que su camino era la guitarra y los blues así que, a partir de aquel momento, le acompañarían en su vida diaria. Formó su propia banda y en 1999 participó en el International Blues Challenge, lo que le llevó a grabar su primer disco que, a su vez, le abrió las puertas para formar parte de los legendarios Double Trouble, el que fuera grupo de acompañamiento de Stevie Ray Vaughan. Desde entonces su carrera ha sido siempre ascendente y muy fructífera. Con este último trabajo Cummings se muestra como lo que es, un artista que ha llegado ya a su madurez como músico y muy probablemente está ya en el zénit de su carrera, contando además para este último disco con un plantel de grandes músicos de la zona de Los Angeles que, con su intervención, ayudan a realzar todo el potencial de este excelente músico. MUY BUENO. Albert Cummings’ electrifying guitar comes back again to captivate us in this last album entitled

"Someone Like You" recorded for Blind Pig. Albert discovered music thanks to his father who taught him the first guitar notes. He began to play banjo when he was twelve years old and he immediately became a fan of bluegrass music. When he was a teenager he discovered by chance some Stevie Ray Vaughan early recordings and he was impressed by his virtuoso guitar technique. One day he saw him playing live and he decided he had to devote himself to the guitar and the blues so, since then on, they have been always present in his daily life. He formed his own band and, in 1999, he competed at the International Blues Challenge, which led him to record his first album which, in turn, opened him the doors to become member of the legendary Double Trouble band, which were Stevie Ray Vaughan’s backing band. Since then on his career has been rising up with very good results. In this last work Cummings shows himself as an amazing musician who has already reached his maturity as a musician who is probably at the peak of his career. He has also counted with a bunch of some of the best musicians of Los Angeles area who contribute to enhance the full potential of this excellent musician. GREAT.

Franc Robert & The Boxcar Tourist “Goin Down To Florida”. Blue Chihuahua 2015. Después de una larga temporada, el cantante y guitarrista Franc Robert ha vuelto a reunir a su grupo The Boxcar Tourist, formado por Joe Sadovski a la armónica, Sam Mudd al bajo y Dave Simmonds a la batería, para grabar este cd que ahora tenemos la oportunidad de disfrutar. En él se incluyen una buena y extensa variedad de formas y estilos musicales pero siempre dentro de los cánones más estrictos del blues, todo ello enmarcado en catorce canciones originales. El disco se abre con “Goin’ Down To Florida” un alegre shuffle lleno de encanto y de swing, pero el álbum recoge también otros ritmos como las pantanosas canciones “A Night With The Blues” y “Devil’s At The Crossroads”, el bluesy reggae de “A Fool For Trying”, la profunda, oscura y vistosa cadencia de “Voodoo Stomp”, el ritmo sincopado del Delta de la canción “Poor Me Blues”, el funky rockin’ blues de “The Worst We’d Ever Seen” o incluso de “Watch You Walk Away” o el delicioso swing de “Cheap Cadillac”. Todos estos ritmos y estilos son interpretados desde la personal visión, conocimiento y concepción que Franc y su banda tienen del blues. A pesar de no ser un grupo de grandes virtuosos, todos ellos se vuelcan con ganas y mucha pasión en su trabajo, algo que siempre es de agradecer. MUY BUENO. After quite a long time, singer and guitarist Franc Robert has brought his band The Boxcar Tourist together again, with Joe Sadovski on harmonica, Sam Mudd on bass and Dave Simmonds on drums, to record the album we have now the opportunity to enjoy with. The cd includes a good and wide variety of different musical shapes and styles, but always framed into the rules of the blues, which is developed in fourteen original songs. The album opens with "Goin' Down To Florida" a joyful charming and swingin’ shuffle, but this recording also includes other rhythms like the swampy songs "A Night With The Blues" and "Devil's At The Crossroads", the bluesy reggae of "A Fool For Trying", the deep, dark and colourful cadence of "Voodoo Stomp", the syncopated Delta rhythm of the song "Poor Me Blues", the funky rockin' blues of songs like "The Worst We'd Ever Seen" or "Watch You Walk Away" or even the delicious swing of "Cheap Cadillac". All these various rhythms and styles come from the personal vision, the knowledge and the interesting conception Franc and his band give to the blues. Despite they are not really virtuoso

musicians, all them put a lot of enthusiasm and passion in their work, something that always is really welcomed. VERY GOOD.

El incisivo y martilleante piano y la ponderosa voz de Victor Wainwright se unen a una de las bandas más energéticas del panorama del blues actual como son The Wildroots, para grabar este álbum titulado “Boom Town” con el que sorprenderán a todos aquellos que quieran darles la oportunidad de ser escuchados. La banda y su líder dan una estupenda lección musical que no podréis olvidar en mucho tiempo. Su sonido y su admirable ritmo nos transportan a un fabuloso mundo de color, música, luminosidad, ritmo, alegría y buen rollo. El disco refleja fielmente la misma pasión que ellos transmiten cuando se suben a un escenario y lo hacen en todas y cada una de las trece canciones que se incluyen en el álbum, donde se combinan con acierto toda una gama de sensaciones que se quedarán en vuestra memoria, con estilos clásicos que van desde la roots blues, pasando por el rockin’ blues pegajoso y visceral, el boogie woogie o el swing, desembocando finalmente en el soul mas fervoroso y ameno. Lazer Lloyd “Lazer Lloyd”. Lots Of Love / Mark Pucci 2015. El cantante, compositor y guitarrista israelí Lazer Lloyd viene para presentarnos su primer disco grabado en estudio, en el que se incluye tanto material eléctrico como acústico, todo ello en una serie de composiciones propias, doce para ser exactos, que capturan con fidelidad, el espíritu de un profundo y a la vez sencillo trovador que con sus letras y su trabajo a la guitarra conduce, tanto al espectador como al oyente, a las profundidades de sus sentimientos más dolorosos y angustiosos, así como también a los más elevados placeres del amor, la vida, la esperanza y las ilusiones propias de todo aquel que todavía cree en los buenos sentimientos de los demás. Su música es sencilla y está influida por el blues, el gospel, el folk, el southern rock y toda la estela que nos dejaron guitarristas de la talla de Jimi Hendrix o Wes Montgomery, aunque la técnica de Lacer dista bastante de estar a la altura de estos dos guitarristas de leyenda. Lloyd es también un prolífico compositor enamorado de su trabajo con una gran ilusión y esperanza en su propio futuro. Por nosotros que no quede. BUENO. Singer, songwriter and guitarist Lazer Lloyd comes from Israel to present his first studio album, which includes both electrical and acoustic material, in a series of own compositions, twelve to be precise, which faithfully capture the spirit of a deep and, at the same time, unaffected troubadour who, thanks to his lyrics and guitar work, drives different audiences and listeners to the depths of his more painful feelings, as well as to the big pleasures of love, life, hope and dreams of someone who still believes in other people good behaviour. His music is natural with deep influences of blues, gospel, folk, southern rock and the trail that left us guitarists like Jimi Hendrix or Wes Montgomery, although Lacer’s technique is not at the same level of those two legendary guitar players. Brad Wilson “Blues Thunder”. Call Be Music 2015. Además de un buen cantante, compositor, guitarrista, arreglista y líder de su propia banda, Brad Wilson es también un excelente entertainer que consigue con facilidad que el

público siempre espere con anhelo sus conciertos en directo. Ahora Brad nos sorprende con su último disco “Blues Thunder”, una verdadera fiesta no solamente para los oídos, sino también para todos los sentidos. Considerado un más que estupendo guitarrista, éste cd que aquí comentamos es una buena muestra de ello y un fiel reflejo de su garantía como músico. Oriundo de California, Brad Wilson realiza más de cien conciertos al año, lo que ya dice mucho a su favor. Actualmente se ha ganado la calificación de ser uno de los más sobresalientes en lo que a la música roots y ‘americana’, se refiere y todo ello sin dejar de lado ni apartarse de su constante búsqueda y experimentación con el blues contemporáneo que tanto agrada a las nuevas generaciones de aficionados al blues. No cabe la menor duda que éste disco ha ayudado si cabe todavía más a encumbrar a un músico que ya estaba muy bien considerado. Sus intensos riffs y solos de guitarra, su bien timbrada voz y su innegable presencia escénica, le han convertido en uno de los músicos más solicitados en los circuitos de festivales de los cinco continentes. MUY BUENO. Besides a good singer, songwriter, guitarist, arranger and leader of his own band, Brad Wilson is also an excellent entertainer who easily manages people anxiously waits for his live shows. Blues Element “Halfway Home”. Self Production 2015. Los Blues Element son una banda canadiense afincada en Toronto extremadamente ecléctica, ya que si se lo proponen pueden tocar de todo, es decir pueden interpretan tanto funky como rock alternativo, Indie, punk, country o ritmos caribeños, todos ello construido y vestido con el blues como referencia y con el que articulan todo su discurso musical, un discurso por otra parte que ellos estructuran con propiedad y firmeza. El disco recoge once canciones compuestas en su totalidad por la vocalista Jamie Lynn Browning y el batería Iain Morton Green, canciones todas ellas con las que se sienten bien integrados y muy a gusto, disfrutándolas en su totalidad mientras las interpretan. El resto de los músicos que participan en el proyecto ponen lo mejor de si mismos, aportando frescura y cohesión a una obra bastante compleja, al tiempo que fácilmente asimilable para el oyente. Como ya hemos dicho anteriormente la banda toma el blues como punto de referencia y partida, para adentrarse por otros caminos, explorando con atrevimiento y sin complejos nuevos elementos musicales a veces de difícil definición, pero siempre repletos de buen gusto, con agradables armonías, que contribuyen a crear una atmósfera relajada, mostrando además un dominio muy seguro del terreno que pisan. If they wish they can play any kind of music, in other words, they can perform funky, alternative rock, Indie, punk, country or Caribbean rhythms, all based and built on with the blues as their main reference, which enables them to create a complete and personal musical speech that is properly structured and firmly displayed. The album includes eleven own tunes, all them composed by singer Jamie Lynn Browning and drummer Iain Morton Green, where they feel completely at easy and integrated with the music they happily play. The rest of the musicians involved in the project give the best of themselves, bringing a breath of fresh air and coherence to a fairly complex work that makes it quite understandable for every listener. As I have just mentioned, the band takes the blues as a reference and starting point, to go further up to other roads and explore with a daring self assurance new musical elements that sometimes become difficult to define, but that are always played with an extremely good taste and very nice harmonies, that contribute to create a relaxed atmosphere that makes evident they really know what they are doing. Angue Jazz “How ‘Bout That”. Self Production 2015. Angue Jazz nos presenta su última entrega, en la que se ha añadido también un nuevo componente, pasando a ser en la actualidad cuatro miembros. Al trío formado por Rocio-Angue Eson como aguerrida y notable vocalista, Ignasi Morral al saxo alto y Ernesto Olvera al piano, se les une el maestro cubano Humberto Carrero a las congas, quien tiene ya más de cincuenta y cinco años de carrera musical a sus espaldas, lo que es toda una garantía para el resto de la formación, ya que aporta un ritmo contenido y el vistoso colorido que los músicos caribeños imprimen a su música. Este es el segundo álbum de esta joven formación barcelonesa que, con sólo un par de años de trayectoria, ha realizado más de ochenta conciertos. Este disco incluye seis temas de jazz tradicional con composiciones de Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Jordan, Fats Waller o los Mill Brothers, mas un tema propio titulado “Sunset In The Tropic”, que sigue la misma estela y patrón del resto de canciones y cuya letra pertenece al poeta norteamericano James W. Joel Zoos “Florida Blues”. Bluzpick 2015. Joel Zoos era un músico bastante desconocido hasta que Bonnie Raitt grabó dos canciones escritas por él, “Too Long At The Fair” y “I Gave My Love A Candle”. A partir de aquel momento Joel empezó a ser solicitado cada vez con mas frecuencia en clubs, salas de conciertos y festivales de cierto renombre como el Festival de Blues de Philadelphia, además de actuar también como telonero de B.B. King o Etta James. Joel ha colaborado como músico de sesión con artistas como David Bromberg, Taj Mahal, James Taylor, Paul Butterfield, e incluso hace ya muchos años, lo hizo con el legendario Howlin’ Wolf. Su facilidad para tocar en el estilo fingerpicking y sus siempre emotivas letras le permiten incluir en su repertorio tanto temas propios, como folk y blues tradicional en la línea de Elizabeth Cotten, Leadbelly o Big Bill Broonzy y es precisamente esto lo que hace en este disco. Canciones con una sensibilidad y una fragancia intimista que cautivan rápidamente al oyente. Además de Joel Zoos cantando y tocando guitarra acústica, se encuentran a su lado Jeff Adkins al bajo y contrabajo y Matt Calderin a la batería y percusión. MUY BUENO. Joel Zoos was a quite unknown musician until Bonnie Raitt recorded two of his songs "Too Long At The Fair" and "I Gave My Love A Candle". Julio Lobos “Handmade Covers” Self Production 2015 /// Julio Lobos “Blues Al M.E.A.M” MEAM Blues Music 2015. El incombustible y multinstrumentista Julio Lobos vuelve de nuevo a lo más alto del podio para presentar sus dos últimos trabajos grabados prácticamente en solitario y que constituyen un par de proyectos bien diferenciados entre si. El primero de ellos y como su titulo indica, recoge catorce versiones ‘hechas a mano’ de temas de todos los estilos y colores por los que Julio siente una especial admiración y atracción. Julio Lobos pone la voz, hace coros, toca los teclados, la armónica, la guitarra slide, el acordeón, la melódica, la percusión, el kazoo y realiza todo el trabajo de laboratorio, es decir, los loops y los samplers, contando con la colaboración de Josep ‘Pasto’ Marti al bajo, su bajista de confianza durante los últimos años, Miguel González, Ramón Santiveri y Robert Gómez a las guitarras en algunos temas y Tahiel García Morero quien crea un ambiente muy especial en la canción “Bad Card”. ¿Qué no sabes quien es Tahiel?, Bueno no voy a desvelar el secreto, procurad descubrirlo vosotros mismos o preguntádselo al propio Lobos cuando le veáis en alguno de sus conciertos. Variopintos ‘covers’ de Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Lennon-McCartney, Jr. Walker, Ron Wood, Jagger-Richards o Sting van desfilando a lo largo de este

Andrew-A Group “Hot Roads”. Self Production 2015. Andrew-A empieza a estudiar guitarra a los quince años de edad con un interés inicial por el jazz que le lleva a acudir a un sinfín de seminarios especializados en enseñar dicho estilo. Graba su primer disco en el año 2002 afincándose en Irlanda y empezando allí una imparable carrera musical. Desde entonces no ha parado en involucrarse en mil y un proyectos diferentes y diversos, entre los que sobresalen sus trabajos con The Mary Stokes Band, Brian Downey, Thin Lizzy y otras historias. Ahora nos presenta su nuevo disco bajo su propio nombre en el que incluye diez temas instrumentales (no hay que olvidar que Andrew no es vocalista) de estilos y géneros diversos y eclécticos bastante alejados del blues pero no por ello menos interesantes en los que Andrew-A brilla a gran altura debido a una depurada técnica y el buen respaldo de músicos como Santiago Arteaga al bajo, Giuliano Gius Cobelli a la batería y Mireia Tejero, que incluye el saxo en un tema. Andrew-A started to study guitar when he was fifteen years old, with an initial interest by jazz that took him to attend many specialized seminars that taught and covered that style. He recorded his first album in 2002 and afterwards he settled in Ireland where he started a fruitful and endless musical career. Since then on he has been involved in hundreds of different and various projects, like his noticeable work with Mary Stokes Band, Brian Downey, Thin Lizzy and many other projects. Now he comes with his new album recorded under his own name, where he has included ten instrumentals (let's not forget Andrew in not a singer) of various an eclectic styles and genres, far away of the blues but not less interesting. Andrew-A shines at a very high level thanks to his excellent fine guitar technique and the good support of musicians like Santiago Arteaga on bass, Giuliano Gius Cobelli on drums and Mireia Tejero, who includes the sax in one song.

Red Family Band “Beyond The Crossroads”. Self Production 2015. /// Red Family Band “Coffee & Valves” Self Production (EP) 2015. Red Family es un grupo liderado por Alberto Tresguerres quien, además de tocar todas las guitarras, también se ocupa de la producción y la composición, de talla muy notable que realiza con un bello sentido del lirismo y de las armonías. Además de lo expuesto anteriormente Alberto está considerado como un todo terreno en lo que al negocio de la música se refiere, ya que toca todos los estilos que uno pueda imaginar, desde funk, pasando por el pop, el rock, el jazz, el blues, el soul y cualquier otro tipo de música que se le ponga a tiro. Alberto Tresguerres es un músico dotado y perfeccionista como pocos, un guitarrista que se ha formado tanto en nuestro país, como en el extranjero y un músico que además de participativo hasta la médula, se involucra siempre y hasta el fondo en todas y cada una de las aventuras en las que se embarca. Otra de sus grandes virtudes es su ojo clínico para hacerse acompañar por músicos de gran talla y de un alto nivel musical. Los resultados hablan por si mismos, solamente tenéis que comprar el disco para disfrutarlo una y otra vez sin que nunca llegue nunca a aburrir. En este “Beyond The Crossroads” Tresguerres está respaldado por Carlos “General” Soria al bajo, contrabajo y voces, Hans C. Rivero batería, percusión y voces y el estupendo vocalista Sergio Jo. El

álbum se grabó en los estudios Red Family de Madrid y fue masterizado en Nashville en 2014. Un disco mucho más que interesante por diversos aspectos al igual que el EP titulado “Coffee & Valves”. MUY BUENO. Red Family is a group led by Alberto Tresguerres who, besides playing all guitars, also deals with the production and the very remarkable composition, he performs with a beautiful lyricism and delicious harmonies. Alberto is also a jack of all trades, especially in the music business, since he can play all the styles one can imagine, from funk to pop, rock, jazz, blues, soul and any other kind of music that faces him. Alberto Tresguerres is a gifted musician and a really perfectionist as few other artists can be, a guitarist who has grown up both in our country and abroad and a kind of person who totally delivers to his music who totally involves himself in each and every one of the musical projects he starts. Another of his great virtues is his vision to surround himself by great musicians with a high quality level. The result becomes evident, you only have to buy the album and enjoy it again and again without getting bored. In "Beyond The Crossroads", Tresguerres is backed by Carlos "General" Soria on bass, double bass and vocals, Hans C. Rivero drums, percussion and vocals and great singer Sergio Jo. Bob Malone “Mojo Deluxe”. Delta Moon 2015. Bob Malone ha cimentado su carrera tanto como artista en solitario, así como teclista la banda de John Fogerty. Bajo estas dos facetas ha recorrido el mundo en infinidad de giras y actuaciones. Ahora nos presenta su nuevo trabajo titulado “Mojo Deluxe” en el que incluye excelentes temas originales junto a un par de covers, “Hard Times” de Ray Charles y “She Moves Me” de Muddy Waters. Con esta su última entrega realizada en estudio, Bob demuestra que ha alcanzado su plena madurez como músico y compositor que sabe interpretar con solvencia, pasión y entrega tanto los ‘dirty blues’ como el rock and roll de corte clásico, las baladas con influencias gospel, el piano bar de New Orleans, además de pasearse también con dinamismo y precisión por el ‘swamp pop’. Para ello se ha rodeado de un puñado de extraordinarios músicos capaces de dar lo mejor de si mismos en estas doce soberbias canciones como son Stan Behrens (War) a la armónica, Tim Lefebvre (Tedeschi-Trucks Band) bajo, los baterías Mike Baird (Bob Dylan, Joe Cooker) y Kenny Aronoff (John Fogerty), Bob DeMarco como guitarrista, y productor y, por supuesto, el protagonista principal de esta historia que es Bob Malone a la voz, piano acústico, Hammond B-3, órgano y Wurtlitzer. Jay Gordon And Blues Venom “Woodchoppers Ball” Shuttle Music / Frank Roszak 2015. La poderosa, rota y ardiente voz Jay Gordon, junto a la brutal sonoridad de su guitarra, sin duda deslumbrará y atrapará a todos los aficionados al blues y al ‘hard rock blues’ que escuchen su último trabajo. No en vano Jay ha taloneado a artistas de la talla de Johnny Winter o Albert Collins, además de haber trabajado junto a Phillip Walker. Las doce canciones que se incluyen en este “Woodchoppers Ball” son buena muestra de cómo Jay Gordon aborda su poderoso material sonoro capaz de hacer enloquecer al más calmado y tranquilo de los mortales. Jay Gordon está a la guitarra eléctrica, el dobro y la slide, además de cantar en prácticamente todos los temas. Le acompañan en su nueva andadura, Sharon Butcher al bajo y voces, Rich Wenzel al Hammond B-3 y piano, Rich Gordon Lambert y Ric Daly a la batería y finalmente Mario Ramírez (hermano menor de Richie Valens) a la armónica en un tema. No es necesario ser un motero o tener una Harley Davidson para poder degustar y disfrutar de toda la caña y el desenfreno que tanto Jay Gordon como su banda The Blues Venom nos ofrecen en este explosivo disco que es pura dinamita para los sentidos. A.J. Croce “That’s Me In The Bar” Compass / Seedling 2015. La compañía Compass Records ha reeditado el álbum de A.J. Croce titulado “That’s Me In The Bar”. El disco ha sido remasterizado y se ha incluido un bonus track que había quedado descartado en su momento. La grabación original fue publicada en 1995 llegando al Top Ten de las listas de blues más importantes de aquel momento. Gracias a su inconfundible voz influenciada por artistas como Dr. John o Rod Stewart y a su maravillosa técnica al piano, Croce se convirtió en uno de los músicos más singulares de la música americana con raíces. En el

álbum participaron grandes artistas y músicos como Robben Ford, Ry Cooder, David Hidalgo de Los Lobos, Bill Payne de Little Feat, Sweet Pea Atkinson de Was Not Was, Waddy Wachtel, Sid Page de los Sly & The Family Stone y Flea de los Red Hot Chilli Peppers. El disco es una obra maravillosa de la música rock contemporánea, un dechado de virtudes y una verdadera joya para los sentidos, que celebramos se haya vuelto a publicar después de veinte años. A.J. Sugar Brown “Poor Lazarus”. Self Production / Sarah French 2015. Sugar Brown es el seudónimo del músico japonés Ken Kawashima quien, desde siempre ha sido un estudioso del blues de Chicago. Durante años ha dedicado todo su talento y esfuerzo para preservar este sonido. Sin embargo ahora ha dado un giro radical a su música, presentando un álbum robusto y apetitoso que incluye un repertorio mucho mas salvaje y caótico que Sugar interpreta con atrevimiento y mucha pericia, que abarca desde el blues de Texas a lo Lightnin’ Hopkins o Frankie Lee Sims, hasta el blues hipnótico de lo que se ha dado en llamar durante los últimos años Mississippi Hill Country Blues, a lo R. L. Burnside, por quien Sugar profesa una solemne admiración. Pero si importante es su música, no menos importantes son las letras que acompaña a todas y cada una de las canciones que aquí se incluyen, inspiradas la mayoría en los sucesos que acaecieron el 9 de agosto del año 2014, año en el que el joven de color Michael Brown fue asesinado por un policía blanco. En un libro de canciones de Alan y John Lomax, Sugar Brown descubrió una canción titulada “Poor Lazarus” que relataba la misma historia de Michael Brown pero con otros protagonistas y bastantes años antes. Fue a partir de ese momento en que Sugar Brown decidió grabar este álbum. El blues que interpretan aquí Sugar y sus músicos es dulce, oscuro, inconsolable, rudo y salvaje. Mi consejo es que os dejéis atrapar por su música y os perdáis con ella en esos recónditos y oscuros paraísos sonoros. MUY BUENO. But now he has done a complete turn to his music, recording a hard tasty album with a totally wild and chaotic repertoire he performs with audacity and great skill, that covers from Texas blues in the path of Lightnin' Hopkins or Frankie Lee Sims to the hypnotic blues that has lately been defined as Mississippi Hill Country Blues in the path of R. L. Burnside, a bluesman Sugar deeply admires. But if the music is important, no less important are the song lyrics that have been mainly inspired in the unfortunate facts that happened on 9th August 2014, when a young black man called Michael Brown was murdered by a white police agent. In a book of folksongs gathered by Alan and John Lomax, Sugar Brown discovered a song entitled "Poor Lazarus" that told the same story that happened to Michael Brown but, of course, with other characters and in other time. After listening to it, Sugar Brown decided to do this album. The blues Sugar and his musicians play are sweet, dark, heartbreaking, rude and wild. My advice is to let yourself be caught by his music and get lost into these hidden dark sound paradises. GREAT.

El Jordan Y Sus Moco De Pavo All Estars “Mi Tierra Y Mis Raices”. Youkali Music 2015. Stephen William Jordan Hill es un músico americano que, si no recuerdo mal, es de la zona de Arkansas aunque afincado desde hace años en Talamanca del Jarama. Jordan es un experto cocinero de ‘profesión’ además de batería y sus barbacoas son conocidas y famosas no solamente en la zona donde vive, sino también a lo largo y ancho de la península. Durante los meses de verano realiza unas renombradas jam sessions en el Kiosco Recreativo del Jarama, allí se reúnen la flor y nata de los músicos de blues de la zona de Madrid y algunos venidos de otras partes de España. Fruto de estos encuentros es este disco que recoge el ambiente festivo de estas jams, en canciones bien trabajadas, bien interpretadas, bien arregladas y muy bien producido. Entre costilla y costilla, entrecot y entrecot, hamburguesa y hamburguesa, morcilla y morcilla, todo ello regado con cervezas y más cervezas, van discurriendo estas impagables jams. Musicalmente hablando, el disco recoge un poco de todo, desde blues hasta country, ranchera, bossa y ‘old time music’. Steven ‘Stephen’ Jordan está a la batería y voz acompañado por músicos como Julián Kanevsky, Ñaco Goñi, Kike Jambalaya, David Gwynn, Fede Aguado, Txus Blues, José Bluefingers, Francisco Simón y muchos otros que van desfilando a través de las canciones que discurren a lo largo de este disco, unas cantadas en inglés y otras en la lengua de Cervantes, eso si, siempre divertidas, alegres y llenas de la simpatía y buen humor que caracteriza a este yankee afincado en España. MUY BUENO. Stephen William Jordan Hill is an American musician who, if I remember correctly, comes from Arkansas area, although he has settled for years in Talamanca del Jarama. Jordan is an expert professional cooker besides a drummer too. His American barbecues are famous and popular not only in the area where he lives, but also all over Spain. During the summer months he organizes a series of renowned jam sessions at El Kiosco del Jarama, where you will find the cream of Madrid area blues musicians together with some coming from different parts of Spain. This album gathers some of these meetings and captures the festive atmosphere of these jams, on a bunch of good built songs, with excellent arrangements and a skillful playing. Between ribs and ribs, steak and steak, hamburger and hamburger, sausage and sausage, all washed down with beers

and beers, go on these priceless jams. Musically speaking, the album includes a little bit of everything from blues to country, ballads, bossa or old time music. Steven 'Stephen' Jordan is on drums and vocals backed by different musicians like Julian Kanevsky, Ñaco Goñi, Kike Jambalaya, David Gwynn, Fede Aguado, Txus Blues, José Bluefingers, Francisco Simon and many others who contribute to enhance all cd cuts, some of them sung in English and other ones in Spanish, but all them full with the special funny, joyful sympathy and sense of humour of this Yankee man settled in Spain. Sam Burckhardt “Fly Over”. Airway 2015. Poca luz, velas en las mesas, ambiente relajado, un cóctel en las manos, humo de cigarrillos y un saxofonista en el escenario. La música incluida en este último disco de Sam Burckhardt nos transporta al ambiente de aquellos clubs de jazz de los años cincuenta del siglo pasado, pero interpretado con unos arreglos actuales que buscan satisfacer al oyente de este nuevo siglo XXI. Sam ha dejado momentáneamente los blues clásicos del estilo Chicago para concentrarse de lleno en su pasión por el jazz de aquellos maestros que dejaron huella en él, como Illinois Jacquet o Jimmy Hamilton, éste último descubierto por Sam cuando todavía era un adolescente gracias a su profesor Chester Gill. Aunque Sam es un experto y brillante saxofonista de blues que grabó al lado del gran Sunnyland Slim y le acompañó en mas de una ocasión, además de tocar también en bandas como The Mighty Blue Kings o The Big Swing, no fue hasta el año 1999 en que se decidió a fundar este combo con el que imprime una línea mucho mas jazzy a todas sus interpretaciones. Canciones de Tiny Grimes, Count Basie, Duke Ellington o Bill Dogget, pero también de Leroy Carr y tres temas propios escritos en colaboración con su guitarrista van desfilando a lo largo de este disco. Además de Sam al saxo tenor y voz, el combo se completa con Joel Patterson guitarra, Pete Benson piano y órgano, Beau Sample bajo y Alex Hall batería. Sam siempre ha manifestado que toca lo que le viene en gana, sin someterse jamás a los dictados que marca el mercado. Demos pues la bienvenida a este estupendo disco al que califico musicalmente como ‘soft and mellow’. MUY BUENO. A dark room, candles on tables, a relaxed atmosphere with a cocktail on your hands, cigarette smoke and a sax player on stage. The music included in Sam Burckhardt’s last album drives us to those last century fifties jazz clubs, but performed with contemporary arrangements to satisfy listeners of the new twenty-first century. Sam has left out for a while the most classic Chicago blues to fully concentrate on his passion for the jazz that was performed by those great masters who left his print on him, as Illinois Jacquet or Jimmy Hamilton, Sam discovered when he was a teenager thanks to his teacher Chester Gill. Although Sam is an expert and bright blues sax player who has recorded with the late Sunnyland Slim backing him several times, besides being member of bands like The Mighty Blue Kings or The Big Swing, it was not until 1999 he decided to create this combo to give a much more jazzy style to his performing. Songs coming from Tiny Grimes, Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Bill Dogget, but also by Leroy Carr together with three own compositions he has written in collaboration with his guitar player, come along this interesting album. Besides Sam on tenor sax and vocals, the combo also includes Joel Patterson on guitar, Pete Benson on piano and organ, Beau Sample on bass and Alex Hall on drums. Sam always says he plays what he likes and he does not care about

market or commercial trends. So let’s welcome this great album I will musically describe as soft and mellow. GREAT.

Buddy Guy “Born To Play Guitar”. RCA/Silvertone / BlindRaccoon 2015. A sus prácticamente ochenta años, Buddy Guy sigue siendo un auténtico bluesman y lo demuestra tanto en su música como en su forma de vivir la vida. Continúa actuando en directo con la misma fuerza y vitalidad que lo hacia en sus años mozos cuando tocaba con el gran Junior Wells. Este disco grabado en estudio nos presenta a un Buddy Guy pletórico junto a algunos invitados de lujo como Van Morrison, Joss Stone, Kim Wilson y el carismático Billy Gibbons de ZZ Top. El álbum se inicia con un impresionante blues lento a la manera clásica y tradicional del más puro estilo Chicago con una letra fantástica y real, su titulo lo dice todo, “Born To Play Guitar”, pero también hay un sentido homenaje a B.B. King con “Flesh & Bone” y otro dedicado a su gran amigo y hermano Muddy Waters en la canción “Come Back Muddy”. Como Guy recuerda, cuando se enteró de que Muddy estaba muy enfermo le llamó y le dijo que iba a ir a visitarle. Muddy le contestó: “No hace falta que vengas Buddy, estoy bien. Vete a tocar y prométeme que mantendrás vivos los blues, como siempre lo hemos estado haciendo”. Muddy falleció poco después pero Buddy Guy cumplió su promesa y sigue manteniendo viva la llama del blues. El disco no tiene desperdicio y es un deber y una obligación para cualquier devoto de este género que tanto nos apasiona y seduce, tener una copìa del mismo. BUENISIMO. With almost eighty years old, Buddy Guy shows he is still a real bluesman both in his music as in his way of living. He continues to perform live shows with the same intensity and vitality as he did in his younger days when he played with the great Junior Wells. This studio album brings us a superb Buddy Guy on top form, together with some deluxe guests such as Van Morrison, Joss Stone, Kim Wilson and charismatic Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top). The album starts with an impressive old time slow blues performed in the most traditional Chicago style with fantastic real lyrics and a title that says everything "Born To Play Guitar", but there is also an emotional tribute to B. B. King with thee song "Flesh & Bone" and another one to his great friend and brother Muddy Waters with "Come Back Muddy". As Guy remembers, when he knew Muddy was very ill, he called him and told him he was going to visit him. Muddy said: "Don’t bother, I’m well. Go to play and promise me to will always keep the blues alive as we have always been doing". Muddy died soon after, and Buddy Guy kept his promise and he still continues keeping the blues alive. The album has no waste and is not to be missed, so it is a must for any blues lover to get immediately a copy. GREAT.

Billy The Kid & The Regulators “I Can’t Change”. Self Production / Frank Roszak 2015. Billy The Kid & The Regulators son una poderosa y contundente banda de rhythm and blues, soul potente, blues y funk realmente avasallador como pocos grupos pueden presumir de hacerlo en la zona de Pittsburgh, ciudad donde tienen su cuartel general. Su líder, el carismático Billy Evanochko es muy conocido por sus seductoras y atractivas dotes vocales y sus potentes riffs guitarrísticos. Junto a su grupo The Regulators, en este disco Billy nos ofrece una excelente dosis de la más apasionada música negroide tanto en su concepción como en su impresionante sonido. Gracias a sus innumerables conciertos y actuaciones, la banda ha conseguido sonar de

manera compacta y actual, junto a una vibrante puesta en escena que inmediatamente consigue atrapar a la variopinta audiencia que acude a sus conciertos. Billy Evanochko se encarga de las guitarras y la voz, Jon Vallecorsa es otro guitarra que también canta, un tercer guitarrista James Dougherty se encarga de tocar la guitarra con slide. A los teclados y voces se encuentra Ublai Bey, al bajo Arnold Stagger y finalmente Brian Edwards a la batería y voces. También interviene una jugosa, excelente y rica sección de vientos y finalmente un puñado de invitados como Jason Ricci o la impresionante vocalista Yolanda Barber. Todos ellos contribuyen con sus aportaciones a engrandecer un ya de por si fantástico y soberbio álbum. BUENISIMO. Billy the Kid & The Regulators are a powerful convincing rhythm and blues band, but they also perform powerful soul, blues and overpowering funk as few groups can show off to do so in Pittsburgh area, where they usually move around. His charismatic leader Billy Evanochko is well known for his attractive and captivating vocal abilities and his powerful guitar riffs. Together with his group, The Regulators, in this album Billy brings us an excellent dose of the most passionate black music, both in the lay out and the impressive sound. Thanks to their countless shows and venues, the band has got a compact teamed sound that, together with a vibrant and bright staging presence, immediately attracts the most varied audiences. Billy Evanochko is responsible of guitars and vocals, Jon Vallecorsa also plays guitar and sings, there is also a third guitarist, James Dougherty, who plays slide guitar. On keyboards and vocals you will find Ublai Bey, Arnold Stagger is on bass and finally Brian Edwards is on drums and vocals. There is also a juicy rich amazing horn section and a handful of guests musicians like Jason Ricci or the impressive singer Yolanda Barber. They all contribute to magnify this fantastic and superb album. GREAT.

Smoky Greenwell’s New Orleans Blues Jam “Live At The Old U.S. Mint” Self / Frank Roszak 2015. Cuando en cualquier conversación se habla del blues de New Orleans, siempre sale a relucir el nombre de Smoky Greenwell. De hecho Smoky empezó a tocar la armónica en los años setenta. A partir de entonces siempre ha estado presente en los escenarios acompañando a los más renombrados músicos e intérpretes de blues, además de ser miembro del grupo War y de colaborar asiduamente con Warren Haynes. Toda esta experiencia acumulada a través de los años le ha llevado a fundar su propia banda con la que ha recorrido una gran parte de los Estados Unidos. Este álbum que comentamos se grabó en ‘vivo’ desde el Performing Arts Center de Old U.S. Mint y básicamente recoge canciones que ya habían sido grabadas con anterioridad en estudio a lo largo de la carrera de Smoky Greenwell. En todas ellas Smoky se muestra como un experto armonicista además de hacer alguna incursión con el saxo tenor y cantar. El resto de los músicos que le acompañan son Pete Bradish a la batería, David Hyde al bajo y Jack Kolb a la guitarra, junto a un par de invitados como Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes al acordeón y voces y Mark Pentone a la guitarra y voces. El repertorio está prácticamente formado por blues originales escritos por Smoky, Pentone y Barnes. MUY BUENO. When in a conversation people talk about New Orleans blues, always comes out the name of Smoky Greenwell. In fact Smoky began to play the harmonica in the seventies. Since then on, he has always been present on stage supporting the most renowned blues musicians and artists. He was also

former member of War and he has often worked with Warren Haynes. All the accumulated experience he has got through the years has allowed him to lead his own band making tours all over United States. The album was recorded live at the Performing Arts Center of Old U.S. Mint and basically includes songs that were previously recorded in studio along Smoky Greenwell’s career. In every song Smoky appears as an expert harmonica player and singer but he also shows himself as a good tenor sax player. The rest of the band musicians are Pete Bradish on drums, David Hyde on bass and Jack Kolb on guitar, plus a couple of guest musicians, Bruce "Sunpie" Barnes on accordion and vocals and Mark Pentone on guitar and vocals. The repertoire is mainly original blues written by Smoky, Pentone and Barnes. VERY GOOD.

Andra Faye & Scott Ballantine “Coulda Woulda Shoulda”. VizzTone 2015. Andra Faye fue miembro del grupo Saffire-The Uppity Blues Women desde 1992 hasta el 2009. A partir de entonces ha conseguido una gran reputación tanto por su versatilidad como por ser una competente multi-instrumentista, especialmente tocando la mandolina, instrumento con el que se siente muy cómoda pues no en vano sus mentores en la mandolina fueron Yank Rachell y Johnny Young. Andra está dotada de una voz poderosa y arrogante pero a la vez llena de sensualidad, que encaja perfectamente con el humor y a veces la desesperación de unas letras que ella misma escribe. En este disco Andra también toca el violín, el bajo y el contrabajo. Por su parte Scott Ballantine posee una innata facilidad para interpretar con la guitarra cualquier estilo de música popular americana, ya sea jazz, blues, rock o country and western. Posee una dilatada carrera que le ha convertido en un artista de gran calidad y solidez. Su manera de tocar el slide, de realizar los ‘bendings’ y los ‘vibratos’ son de una fluidez equiparable al sonido del agua cuando corre a por un torrente de aguas cristalinas. Este es el segundo disco de la pareja que incluye doce temas de los cuales ocho son composiciones propias, todos ellos interpretados con exquisita delicadeza, enorme calidez y gran esmero. MUY BUENO. Andra Faye was member of Saffire-The Uppity Blues Women from 1992 to 2009. Since the band fell apart, she has gradually got a good reputation as a versatile musician as well as an able multi-instrumentalist, especially on mandolin, an instrument she feels very comfortable with. Not in vain her mandolin mentors were Yank Rachell and Johnny Young. Andra is also gifted with a powerful confident voice but at the same time full of sensuality, which perfectly fits with the sense of humour and the hopeless feeling of some of her lyrics. In this album Andra also plays violin, bass and double bass. On the other hand Scott Ballantine has a natural skill to play with his guitar any style of American popular music like jazz, blues, rock or country and western. He has a long and wide career which has made him become a reliable high quality artist. His way of playing the slide, the bendings and the vibratos is as fluid as water running in a crystal clear stream. This is the second album of this duet and includes twelve songs, eight original ones, but all them performed with exquisite softness, wrapping warmth and great care. VERY GOOD.

Jay Stollman “Room For One More”. Number 7 / VizzTone 2015. El cantante Jay Stollman ha conseguido en pocos años hacerse con una legión de fieles seguidores que le aclaman por todos aquellos escenarios que pisa. Johnny Winter dijo de él en una ocasión que era uno de los mejores vocalistas de

blues que había escuchado nunca. Es por esto que Jay ha sido contratado como cantante principal en la banda de homenaje a Johnny Winter con la que se le ha rendido tributo en diversos conciertos, compuesta por Paul Nelson a la guitarra, Scott Spray al bajo y Tommy Curiale a la batería, a los que se les unen nombres como Edgar Winter, Sonny Landreth, Joe Louis Walker, Debbie Davies, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Mike Zito o Lance López quienes se van turnando a lo largo del show. Ahora Jay Stollman nos presenta su último trabajo titulado “Room For One More”, donde todos los blues suenan impecables y ponderados, provistos de una brutal intensidad que dejará a más de uno totalmente sorprendido. Para conseguir un trabajo redondo Jay se ha rodeado también de un puñado de excelentes músicos como son los guitarristas Andy Abel, Jeremy Goldsmith y Debbie Davies, los bajistas Scott Spray y Johnny Mennonna, los baterías Tommy Nagy y Gerald Myles, el teclista Matt Zeiner y el armonicista Kevin Totoian.
