When the membranes from Saint-Louis encephalitis virus-infected cells were applied to a hydroxylapat i te column [14], the fraction eluted at high phosphate molarity contained polypeptide NV5, also highly type-specific but not polypep- tide Z. Dengue virus-infected cell membranes were found to contain four viral polypeptides, u NV3, NV5 and a polypeptide with a MW intermediate between those of polypeptide V3 and NV3 [16], called polypeptide Z.
