PARACLÍNICA:TAC y RM: lesión en lóbulo temporalEEG (complejos periódicos)LCR: citoquímico, PCR (S y E: 95 %). Falsos negativos en primeros días, tratamiento precoz , en líquidos hemorrágicos, retardo en llegar muestra al laboratorio.
TRATAMIENTO: Aciclovir 10mg/kg iv c/8h por 14 a 21 días. DFH aún si no tuvo crisis epilépticas.PRONÓSTICO: depende de la edad, estado de conciencia, carga viral mayor a 100 copias, tratamiento tardío.
