Bristol-Meyers Squibb
As part of a global leader in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, Bristol-Meyers Thailand is committed to ensuring its staff members have the English-language skills they need to communicate with clients, vendors and coworkers around the world. Since Bristol-Meyers Squibb views English proficiency as a key requirement for its managers, it uses the TOEIC test to evaluate and improve the English-language skills of those managers. Every two years, managers must show they have risen to the required English proficiency level. During that time, they are able to take advantage of an in-house English Department Training Program and retake the TOEIC test to show their progress. The company also offers these resources to supervisors who wish to join the ranks of management.

Kenwood Electronics Technologies
Kenwood Electronics, located in Malaysia, requires all new hires to provide a baseline assessment of their English ability. TOEIC scores identify the training needs and provide a clear path for employees seeking to improve their English skills. Kenwood recently relocated their R&D division from Japan to Malaysia, where the common language is English. Therefore it is now imperative that all employees maintain certain levels of English. This company was able to streamline its business practices and save money in the hiring process by using the TOEIC test. By ensuring that newly hired employees possess a sufficient level of English proficiency to do the job, costly mistakes, miscommunication and poor job performance are avoided.

Panasonic (Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd)
In order to develop talented personnel who can thrive when faced with global challenges, Panasonic implemented measures to improve English-communication ability. Its goal with using TOEIC test results is to nurture global talent and qualitatively strengthen business-communication skills throughout the company. They use TOEIC scores as one of the promotion criteria for supervisors and managers, and for developing overall language ability within the company to further promote “globalization from within.” These measures have had a major impact on the employees engaged in international business, as well as all company employees not necessarily involved in overseas markets. .
