in Nepal
The MuseumsQuartier Wien is a place of exchange and diversity. People from all over the world and from all different artis-tic disciplines come together here. The
“EUROART AT THE MQ” project combines many of these facets and the “MQ Viena” MQ court-yard furniture serves as a unifying symbol of the interplay and har-monious interaction between different artistic styles and cultur-al movements. I would like to
express my heartfelt thanks to the Leopold Museum, the mumok and the Kunsthalle Wien, who were responsible for selecting the participating artists. Together with the ORF, our co-initiator and a wonderful partner, as well as with numerous external partners including Österreich Werbung, ÖBB Rail Tours and “im Kinsky” auction house, we have been able to make this project a reality, and one which is also for a good cause: on May 27 the furniture will be auctioned off in aid of “Nachbar in Not” to help the earthquake victims in Nepal.
My special thanks go to the 40 artists who spontaneously agreed to take part in this pro-ject and who, giving generously of their crea-tivity and time, have created these artworks for you.
I hope you enjoy this artful experience.
The art project “EUROART AT THE MQ” has been put together to accompany the “Eurovision Song Contest” in a joint action by the ORF and the MQ. It is great to see this
year’s ESC motto “Building Bridges” in action here too as a link is created between the music and fine art. The results are impressive and offer a striking insight into how the Austrian artists have engaged with the 40 participating countries.
The auction of the MQ furniture in aid of “Nachbar in Not” to help earthquake victims in Nepal builds another bridge and is a fitting conclusion to this project.

In the spirit of this motto, 40 Austrian artists have decorated 40 “MQ Vienas” – the latest model of the world famous MQ courtyard furniture – to accompany the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). Each ESC participating country is represented and artists drew lots to find out which country would be the theme for their furniture design. The finished artwork can be admired in the Main MQ Courtyard until May 27.
This joint project by the ORF and the MQ is curated by the Kunsthalle Wien, Leopold Museum and mumok, who were responsible for selecting the artists.
On May 27 these unique pieces of furniture will be auctioned off in the Main MQ Courtyard by “im Kinsky” auction house in aid of the charity “Nachbar in Not” to help the victims of the earthquake in Nepal.
