We studied also apari of vehicle dynamic to create a home-made Lap Time Simulator and its Graphic User Interface(GUI). We used CAD programs, as Solidworks for thè design, and we were deeply involved in CFDsimulations with SolidWorks Flow Simulation, Hyperworks and Virtual Wind Tunnel (Altair), Fluent(Ansys), Garnbit, Javafoil, STAR-CD (CD - Adapco).

I became even more interested and curious in renewable energies, above ali hydrogen (as energycarrier) and thè fuel cells. I fìnd these topics to be my inner mission and strong motivation to challengemyself with my academic and personal growth and consequently, invest on my insights and my deepinclination for Science. The research activity at Hydrogen Research and Fueling Facility made medeeply understand how much important thè hydrogen technology and fuel celi applications coufd be inthè future.

Projects Design of a HVAC system for a two-storey shopping center (University Project)

HVAC System design with variable mixture intended to serve a two-storey shopping centerhypothetically located in South Italy. After thè analysis and calculations of proper safety, durability,indoor air quality and comfort, thè Carrier method was applied and heating and cooling loads hadbeen estimateti. Additional standards and guidelines were used. Zoning considerations, equipmentoptions hurnidification / HIT filtrntion. contro! syslom options. yir system design considerations. Thefinal design was compared with thè weil-known software TRNSYS for building energy simulations.

Two-dimensional Cascade for Controlied Diffusion (CD) Compressor Stator Blading:performance analysis through CFD simulations (University Project)

CFD Modelling and Meshing (Preprocessing) was performed on Gambit software. The CFDsimulations and post-processing analysus were carried out with Fluent software. Resulting pressuredistribution and loss coefficients were compared with experimental data. Further analysis was madebetween different types of mesh (triangle, quad or polygonal) in orderto understand thè best approachfor this topic. At thè end, another software was used (CD-adapco Star-CMM+) comparing its resultswilh thè Fluent ones).

Design of a cogeneration plant for industriai application. Cost analysis, considering thè presence andabsence of thè possible co-generator, and its investment feasibility study. Different types ofcogenerator were analysed: an Internai Combustion Engine, Microturbines and Direct Fuel Cells.

Development of a Numerical Code for Heat Transfer Problems using thè Finite DifferenceMethod {University Project)

A numerical code in Matlab sofware was implemented. The goal of thè project was to create amultipletool to simulate simple heat transfer problems and simpfe geometries ( 1D, 2D, 3D, unsteadyor steady, conduction or convection). A GUI (Graphical User Interface) was created through Matlab tohave an userfriendly interface and to allow thè initialization of thè problem with a data input, thèdiscussion and thè graphic display of thermodynamic parameters and thè organization of thè results ofExcel spreadsheets or matrices in Matlab.

- Composition of low / high temperature combustion products with thè software "High_T_products":trend of thè molar fractions of thè combustion products in thè function of thè equivalence ratio,pressure and temperature for Iso-octane (C8H18).

- Influence of valve lift strategies and IVC (Intake Valve Closing) on thè volumetrie filling coefficient of asingle cylinder4-slroke MCI.

- In this report we treated thè construction of a model of a single-cylinder erigine through thè softwareAvl_Boost, and then we discussed thè influence of thè 'IVC {Intake Valve Closed) and lift valvestrategies on thè filling coefficient of a single cylinder engine. In thè same model and throughAVL_Boost, we evaluated thè influence of thè Spark Advance on thè engine performance.

- Calculations about engine power required by traveling at a Constant speed.

- Analysis of Pressure Data from test bench activities (thè analysis was carried out on a Spark IgnitionEngine).

- Characterization of an engine at University of Calabria Test Bench. The engine in examinatios was aspark-ignition engine PIRE 16 valves and 1242 cm3. Calculations about thè value of power, specificfuel consumption, air flow and volumetrie fìlling coefficient. We diagrams, finally, thè trend of thè torque,thè power, thè hourly fuel consumption, thè specific consumption and of thè volumetrie fillingcoefficient as a function of thè rotation speed. Finally, we drew thè fuel map basing on ali of thèinvestigated operating conditions in thè test bench.
