EPILEPSY is a disorder characterized by recurrent seizures of cerebral origin, presenting with episodes of sensory, motor or autonomic phenomenon with

Epilepsy is a chronic condition with complex effects on a person’s social, vocational, and psychological function.

Page 7: Evaluation of the types of epilepsy and other conditions in Kerman

Three to five per cent of the population have a seizure sometime in their life and half to one percent of the population have ‘active epilepsy’.

Page 8: Evaluation of the types of epilepsy and other conditions in Kerman

With time, the incidence of epilepsy and of unprovoked seizures decreased in children and increased in the elderly.

Page 9: Evaluation of the types of epilepsy and other conditions in Kerman

There is geographic variation in the incidence of epileptic syndromes likely to be associated with genetic and environmental factors, although as yet causality has not been fully

established.

Page 10: Evaluation of the types of epilepsy and other conditions in Kerman

The diagnosis of epilepsy is essentiallyclinical, based on an eyewitness account of the seizure.
