1 eXchange 2021: Khayal 0.

Translation:
Reverie are Islands of Dreams On your face I see the moon, That tires out from falling on laps, In reverie, in a trance amidst the melody Of yearning, migrating amidst a longing On your face I contemplate the stars, clouds That accompany the lone wanderer In the middle of the ocean, in turbulence between the wounds of tomorrow and yesterday’s forgetting On your face I touch the waves, That worship the feet of their captain, That desperately shapes the agitated river I string into pampering persuasions Your countenance, I will carve into velvet islands, weaved into the yesterwinds, I exhale into new bodies of heavens, you will reside in. My reverie are maps across the lip of a poet, My reverie are bedrooms of the dreamer, My reverie are the oceans for the fingers and fangs of night, My reverie is you and I, lost in an embrace, The moon envious in its witnessing of us. My reverie begins with the sweetest words and ends with a farewell, Caressing the twilight.

Translation:
When Less Becomes More The empty dishes clinked, Small mouth busy stroking the finger But the stomach is still growing. You can hear the sound of nails forcefully scraping The remaining rice crust from the darkened pot. She wanted to be able to give more But scarcity says enough! A shrill scream broke the silence of the night. Tears welled up while pictures Of yesterday lingered in her mind. Suppressed sobs and accented moans of bereavement Often arouses the dormant environment. Loneliness was whispered under the moonlight And the gentle blowing of the wind Often awakens her traveling spirit. Here she is, In a land where dreams Began to have color And the tide of her life became gentle. As the dark cloud was swept to nowhere, Gradually the sun's rays appeared And yesterday's scarcity was quickly wiped away, And from the heart of the sky flashed the happy scenes of the present. The murmur was silenced In the fullness of the previously empty and scarced pot.

2. Tagapagligtas By Janelyn Dupingay Vergara

Translation:
Saviour I was stuck in a dilemma Of an unending crossroads, Where questions floating And answers were nowhere to be found And no matter how much I paddled to pass through, Still, the waves pushed me back Struggling to breathe, Drowning slowly Fate has been accepted And that is to die in the arms Of the punishing ocean While staring at the huge sky Changing hues From blue to white and white to blue. Nothing much I can do Nothing much I can give Nothing much was left for myself When all of a sudden Your light penetrated Into the dark clouds sheltering me. A silhouette of you appeared, Walking with wounded arms Covered in white cloak Calling my name with all authority Asking me why I have forgotten you. Voltage of regrets electrified me As I found myself kneeling, Crawling to kiss your feet And ask for your forgiveness But you held my hand, Carried me back to the shore Showing me your love is forgiving And unconditional.

Translation: Zebra Crossing Part I I go to the river to cure the disease of watching people And still I see them in the excitement of it—in its melodious song. I stare at the faces- joy, pain, horror, laborious, amateur, foolish, greedy, innocent, shy, ridiculous, frustrated, tired, hopeful I wonder how many faces they have! I learn to make masks out of these faces I sell them in the market, by the banks of the river And yet, people only buy those happy masks As the rest of the masks remain unsold—I use them sometimes. Thereafter, few creatures that resemble humans, come and buy the remaining unhappy masks And the next year, no happy-faced masks they bought, they wanted some animal faces. But I could only make the human ones. Animals, do you wear any masks, too? An animal-faced procession comes along Passing by me, giving out sweet meat I ate and returned them to the river. Once in an afternoon A beloved came swimming “Feed me some rice and fish”, the beloved said, let’s draw some footsteps across the world. People walk around, I draw their footsteps sincerely. Footsteps are akin to their faces, many shapes and impressions Then, all of a sudden I found a beautiful pair of footsteps, Oh, how beautiful they are! I raise my eyes to see them I have found my mother and father, I bowed down and kissed their feet, Mother took me into her arms and kissed me on my forehead She said, “May flowers blossom on your every word”, My dad laid a kiss on my hand and said, “And may those flowers have the scent of your mother.” My mother’s name is Amirunnesa, Mossammat Amirunnesa Whenever father called her, Amirun… I can hear a bird flying around the house On a happy spring day, in the afternoon Someone came and said, “let’s fly to another state”, I agreed, nodding my head.
11
I flew to another country, I could not breathe sometimes I yearned to watch people again I stood next to a zebra-crossing I noticed many people come and go And I would watch them walk, in their fancy dresses I looked up at their faces, their footsteps Yet I could not find anyone inside of them. Beside a lifeless wall, I write these down day by day. Under the rain or shine Flowers blossom upon them and the fragrance of those flowers Flows all over the city, I see someone wrote ‘Poet’ beside my name I remain quiet Standing beside the zebra-crossing In hope, watching humankind. I believe, someday, somewhere They will come to remove the masks along the procession of poetry Following the footsteps Man will step into these lines of zebra-crossing where they will talk like beings in the language of poetry, they will listen to them with love. Where does a human reside in? In the slightest hope, in love, or in the sigh of poetry—that duet, recited for a zebra-crossing.

Translation: Zebra Crossing Part II One Breath To Another -Life From the falling leaves to new-green-framed branches -Life Dews dropping at night to the morning light -Life From a goodbye to a newborn cry -Life Between our coming and going -Life In this life, we are crossing each other without notice, unknowingly -Where? In the zebra-crossing, under the same roof. Names hide behind the pronouns Every single day, we are crossing each other Who are you? -Father And you? -Mother And you? -Brother And you? -Sister, my lord. And you? -The husband And you? -The wife And you? You? You? Who are you? Father , Mother , Brother, Sister, Husband, Wife Do we know each other? Really? Are we really known to each and every other? The illusion of recognizing each other The hypnotizing illusions It is called the zebra-crossing or the Life. Oh life, My life. We live in the same city
16
And we speak to each other And we enjoy, celebrating every opportunity And we share the pains And we ask one another, how the hell are you? A Sigh flees I laugh And I say, I’m fine. Nobody asked me how much of me is alive Feeling the life And reciting the names of sighs I give away Here, I am alive Here, I am well enough to be happy Who am I? Names hide behind the pronouns. Each and every day We are crossing each and every others Who are you? -Officer And you? -Doctor And you? -Teacher And you? -A nurse And you? -A shopkeeper And you? -A labourer And you? You? You? Who are you? Officer, Doctor, Teacher, Nurse, Shopkeeper, Labourer Do we know each other? Really? Can we recognize one another by name? The illusion of recognizing each other The hypnotizing illusions, It is called the Zebra crossing
Or the Life
Oh life, Leaving the shadows far behind, I wanted to get lost I wanted to go farther away into the beyond But is it enough to leave myself too far behind? My lifetime is as far as my shadows go In the light, or darkness
17
Moving away from me This hide and seek This moving away-ness Is known as zebra-crossing Or the life. Oh life, my life. Living with so many dreams Could I touch all of these? I lost some in the way Put some inside the heart, But could I understand them properly? Dreams, come and go Dreams, fly from state to state And this is called zebra-crossing -or the life. Oh life, my life Someday, if someday, if you and I meet along the way Across a zebra crossing, in waiting, Recite a love line to me… Come a little closer.

5. Bertanya by Suprihatin Nengsih
Aku tersungkur diantara puing-puing kepercayaan. Percaya, masih ada Berharap dan berserah, mungkin tidak Do’a dan pujianku seolah hilang. Segala do’a yang aku panjatkan, Seolah tak satupun Dia dengar. Tulikah? Tidak, Dia maha segala Dia tahu semua. Lantas, apakah tak cukup semua do’a dan pujian yang kugubah, Hanya untuknya, Hanya agar dia memberi apa yang aku inginkan. Atau Dia sengaja menguji imanku? Aku bertanya, tapi siapa yang hendak menjawab? Langit, air, udara atau setan yang bergentayangan? Jika Kau bilang, pada-Mu aku harus berserah Tunjukkan padaku bahwa ‘Kau dengar do’a-do’a ku Sekali saja aku sudah bahagia

Translation: Asking I fell down between the rubbles of belief Belief, still present Hope and surrenderment , perhaps not. All my prayers and praises seem to have vanished, Every praying I have professed, as though none, He ever listen. Is He deaf? No, He is the All-Mighty He is the All-Knowing. Thus, are all my reverence not enough for Him? All that are proclaimed only for Him so he could gift me what I yearn for. Or is He purposely testing my faith? I ask, yet who will give me the answer? The skies, the water, the air, or the wandering demons? If You shall say, only to You I have to surrender Show me that you have received my prayers, Even if once, I will be grateful.

6. Roda by Suprihatin Nengsih Wajah asing yang baru ku kenal, Seiring waktu berjalan dia menjadi bagian dari hari-hariku Hingga satu masa, dia menghilang Tanpa berpamitan, tanpa salam perpisahan Dan roda waktu tetap berjalan tanpa memberi aku jawaban Segerombol anak muda, Menari, bernyanyi, dan bermain di pinggir kali Seolah hidup mereka tiada beban, Tiada hal yang mereka resahkan Tapi, aku coba bertanya pada mereka dan dengar apa jawabnya Kenapa harus bermurung durja, Kenapa harus melulu terpaku oleh luka, Jika bahagia itu sesederhana gelak tawa dan bersama Kami bukan tak berduka, tapi hanya ingin menikmati masa muda Karena roda waktu tak pernah berhenti walau kami meminta. Roda waktu terus berputar, Entah apa yang akan aku temui kemudian Jika roda waktuku berhenti berputar, Ku pinta ma’af atas segala kesalahan Dan ‘ku tulis puisi ini sebagai salam perpisahan

Translation: The Wheel A stranger I just met, As time goes by, he becomes a part of my everyday, Until comes a time, he disappears Without a farewell, without a goodbye And the wheels of time keep on moving without giving me an answer The spirit of youth, Dancing, singing and jollying at the riverside As if there was no burden in their lives, having nothing to worry, But, I tried asking them, and I wait for their answers Why do we need to be sad? Why do we need to be fixated by wounds? If happiness were as simple as laughter and togetherness We are not devoid of sadness, we just want to soak up the times of our youth As the wheel of time will never stop, much to our begging. The wheel of time keeps on moving I do not know what I will meet in the future. If my wheel of time stops moving, Pardon me for all my wrongdoings, And I write this poem as a mark of farewell.
