Health and Safety Precautions:
Before using, refer to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) Ensure the same safe working methods are followed for all persons in the work area Wear suitable protective clothing, butyl rubber or nitrile gloves and safety goggles with side shields during mixing and application Respiratory masks should be worn at all times when adequate ventilation does not exist A NIOSH/MSHA (TC-‐23C-‐1809), multi gas vapor respirator is acceptable Observe OSHA regulations for respirator use (29 CFR 1910.134) Avoid direct contact with skin or eyes Uncured polymers are corrosive, toxic or both. They may cause allergic reactions or hypersensitivity reactions Contact with skin – wash immediately with soap and water Contact with eyes – rinse immediately with lots of water and seek medical attention
Storage: In original, unopened containers between 55°F and 90°F. Do not let freeze Storing the material at a higher temperature may reduce its shelf life Under dry, ventilated conditions and out of direct sunlight. Keep in an upright position and do not over stack
Shelf Life: One year in unopened containers stored between 60°F and 90°F
Surface Preparation: Site Conditions:
All surfaces should be prepared as per the approved TQ3 specification The surface temperature must at least 6°F above the dew point and rising. Use a surface dew point meter Air and surface temperatures must be between 40°F and 90°F Relative Humidity less than 90% Surfaces to be over-‐coated must be firm, dry and load bearing, free of loose and brittle particles, such as loose sand in the GP Wearcoat and contaminants that would impair adhesion If there are any doubts about the suitability of a substrate, further advice should be sought from a TQ3 representative and a small trial area applied and tested appropriately
TQ3 aim to ensure that any indicative advice, information or recommendations given are reliable and correct. This technical data sheet supersedes all previous concerning the product; ensure that you are using the latest issued. The physical properties indicated, are from testing carried out in a controlled laboratory environment. PU TOPCOAT TECHNICAL DATA SHEET
Product Mixing: Mix Ratio by Volume:
PU Topcoat kits are pre-‐measured. Mix all of Part A (Resin) with all of Part B (Hardener) It must be thoroughly mixed, using an electric, slow speed (300-‐400rpm), high torque drill with mixing paddle 1/ Dispense Part A into a separate, clean, dry mixing pail, taking care not to hit the sides. Pre mix for 30 seconds 2/ Add Part B, taking care not to hit the sides, and mix for a minimum of 2 minutes Work the mixing paddle around the sides and bottom of the mixing pail to achieve a uniform, streak free homogenous liquid Scrape out all of the material from the mixing pail Do not mix new material with old, uncured material as this can significantly reduce work times. Use new pails frequently Decant newly mixed material into smaller containers or onto substrate and spread to prolong working time If a partial mix must be made, follow same mixing procedures using, by VOLUME: 2 Parts A to 1 Part B
Pot Life @ 68°F: 15 Minutes The working time and viscosity of PU Topcoat will be influenced by the length of time it is mixed (longer mixing results in shorter pot life), the substrate and ambient temperatures and how quickly it is removed from the mixing pail and spread on the substrate
Product Application: Application Rate: WFT/DFT:
PU Topcoat should be applied as per the approved TQ3 specification After PU Topcoat has been mixed thoroughly; it is applied evenly by roller Use a heavy duty roller arm applying moderate pressure to force sealer into aggregate voids The roller sleeve nap will depend on the size of anti-‐skid aggregate being sealed, usually 3/8” Before re-‐coating, ensure all solvents in previous coat have evaporated
As per TQ3 specification, applied in one coat WFT/DFT = 10 -‐ 40 mils per coat dependent upon specification
Re-‐coat and Traffic Times:
Minimum @ 68°F = 6 hours before re-‐coating, 12 hours before traffic
Product Restrictions and Limitations:
Color may be affected by high humidity or low temperatures
Clean-‐up and Disposal:
Follow all Health and Safety instructions on MSDS Wash body with soap and water Clean tools and equipment with xylene or MEK Ensure all material is mixed and cured before disposal, in accordance with federal, state and local regulations Dispose of all packaging in accordance with federal, state and local regulations
