“A grateful person is a powerful person,

for gratitude generates power. All abundance is

based on being grateful for what we have….”

-- Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

“Appreciation, gratitude and thanksgiving—

the motive power which attracts and magnifies

the hidden potentialities of life.”

-- Ernest Holmes

Both Ross and Holmes use the word “power” in writing about gratitude.

Some of us may attend a gym or YMCA regularly to strengthen our physical muscles. From this activity we might experience a greater sense of well-being because, as we exercise, we have re-duced mental and bodily stress. This activity triggers the release of substances in the body called endorphins that can feel like a natural high. This is one way to be a witness to God’s Power and Well-Being in action.

What about your ‘gratitude muscle?’ Do you exercise this muscle often? If you do, then you practice the fine art of gratitude and

IN GRATITUDEenjoy more God Power. There is so much for which to be grate-ful. Ways to use one’s ‘gratitude muscle’ are many, and I have listed some of these ways below that work for me.

Give thanks for the beautiful, unique Spirit within everyone as well as yourself. Always remember that there will never be an-other beautiful being just exactly like you or me.Give thanks for things the way they are.Give thanks for the things that you have.Give thanks for your greater Good, knowing that it is on its way to you.Give thanks for the people in your life who are easy to be with—they are your teachers.Give thanks for the people in your life who are difficult to get along with—they also are your teachers.Give thanks for your power of choice.Be grateful for the God Power within.

An AffirmationI am grateful to know that God within me is

my True Power and Unlimited Source.

FAITH. If we were lucky as children it was modeled to us by our par-ents and those we looked up to. We sang about it in church. Our priests and ministers delivered countless sermons on faith. Motivational coaches write whole books and chapters on faith passionately telling us it’s the substance of all possibility. New Agers say you’ve got to have it to ‘mani-fest.’

Still, our ability to truly embody faith seems to fall a little short no mat-ter how many books we read or messages we listen to. Yeshua Ben-Joseph reminded us to have faith the size of a mustard seed. Surely, you and I must have faith the size of a mustard seed! So if we have an adequately sized helping of faith, what sometimes seems to be the problem?!

The possible answers hit me the second time I watched ‘The Matrix Re-loaded’ in the theater. Morpheus, who assisted Neo and others to free their minds and become unplugged from the Matrix, is the quintessential embodiment of faith. There is no character in ‘The Matrix’ movies, not even the hero Neo himself, possessing the level of faith that Morpheus embodies. The difference between Morpheus and the others is his undy-ing, unswerving, and unshakable faith. Try as they do, no event or person is able to inject one speck of doubt within him. No matter how far he is tested, no matter how long he must endure the challenge, no matter how wretched the picture looks, he never ever loses faith.

Even when Morpheus is thrust into the air in an explosion of colossal proportion, he faith-fully waits for his rescue. Mor-pheus is hurled from the roof of a speeding truck, enormous flames licking at his feet, there’s no one around to save him and what does he do? Flying through the air, he still waits for Neo to rescue him.

The great visionary R. Buckmin-ster Fuller said these profound words which have been proven true over and over in all our lives:

“You can rest assured that if you devote your time and attention

to the highest advantage of others, the Universe will support you, always and only in the nick of time.”

Not only does Morpheus ‘know,’ an action that is required in the process of faith, he is patient. Morpheus goes the dis-tance, even in the face of all indications to the contrary. He knows without question that he will be saved in the nick of time. We, on the other hand, often stop short—just before we are delivered up. We stop because we need to see it now or because someone said something that caused us to lose our focus. I would bet that in most cases we give up one nanosecond before our desires are about to materialize. It isn’t that our faith hasn’t been big enough. It hasn’t been long enough!

Faith requires that not only do we go the distance, we must often even go past the point of reason. We must go past the point when things seem over and done with in order for it to be called faith! If you have faith that you will ascend your physical body during this lifetime, faith may require that your body gives out for the briefest of moments. Still, you surrender to the experience holding to the conviction that you will not die but live. You have to go beyond the point of reason in order to realize your ascension.

If I stop and look at my life I would have to say that virtu-ally everything I have ever desired has come true or is com-ing true, so I’ve got to believe that everything else I desire and for which I have faith will come true, too. All things for which we truly hold faith come to pass, without excep-tion. All we have to do to be faithful are first, know that our desired outcome will come to pass and secondly, re-main steady in that knowing. We may be challenged as we hold it steady. There are people and forces that get charged by trying to push us off balance. But let’s just remember that no matter how bad things look, no matter how hopeless things seem, it is our undying, unshakable focus on nothing but the end re-sult that will have mere spectators believing in miracles!

Unique Treatments to Help BoostImmune System and Stay Healthy

during flu seasonStarting to feel a little under the weather? Beat the sniffles, sneez-es and coughs with these two unique treatments from Practitio-ners Dr. Steve Arculeo and Dr. Martha Howard of ChicagoHeal-ers.com. With just a few simple steps and ingredients found at home, you’ll be able to boost your immune system and fight flu symptoms naturally. Dr. Arculeo suggests mixing up a “Scallion and Ginger Tonic” cocktail for a real full body detox and immune system booster:Directions:1. Combine 1 bunch of chopped scallions, 6 coin size slivers of fresh ginger, Shoyu (quality soy sauce) and 4 cups of water in a sauce pan and bring to boil. 2. Lower to a simmer and reduce by half so you are left with two cups. 3. Drink both cups while hot. 4. Soak in a very warm bath. 5. Get out and wear sweatshirt and sweatpants to bed. “I have used this successfully with many patients over the years. You will break a sweat during the night and wake up feeling much better,” says Dr. Arculeo. Dr. Howard swears by her “Hot Water Bath” for colds and flu:Directions:1. Take 1000 milligrams of Vitamin C with 8 ounces of water.2. Fill a tub with very hot water, as hot as your feet and legs can stand, and sit on edge of tub with feet and legs in water.3. Wrap a blanket around you until you sweat.4. Add more hot water as it begins to cool, and sit at least 20-30 minutes.“A hot environment increases your circulation and kills viruses. Fevers are part of the body’s defense against microbes,” says Dr. Howard. “I have had colds go away completely in less than 12 hours with this method!”

This beautiful soup is bright orange and full of subtle, interesting flavors. Parsnips and celery root quietly balance the sweetness of carrots and yams, and a light touch of spices and citrus juices brings out the best in the veg-etables without dominating. But for drama in the bowl and on your taste buds, try this with a little spoonful of dark red chile salsa floating on top of each serving. Fantastic!

Ingredients1 large yam (about 1 1/4 lbs.; 570 g)1 large yellow onion2 Tbs. (30 ml) olive oil1 tsp. sea salt, plus more to taste12 oz. (350 g) carrots6 oz. (170 g) parsnips4 oz. (120 g) trimmed celery root1 Tbs. (15 ml) honey or agave nectarone 1-inch stick cinnamon1/2 tsp. coriander seeds, lightly toasted and ground1/4 tsp. ground nutmega pinch of hot paprika or cayenneabout 4 cups (1 liter) basic light vegetable broth or 3 cups canned vegetable broth diluted with 1 cup watergrated rind of 1 orange3 Tbs. (45 ml) fresh orange juice1 Tbs. (15 ml) fresh lemon juice, plus more to taste1 Tbs. unsalted butter (optional)

garnish: fruity green olive oiloptional garnish: cooked chile salsa

Preheat the oven to 375⁰. Wash the yam, pierce it once or twice with a fork, and roast it until it is completely soft, about 45 minutes (longer if you’ve got a very large yam). Allow it to cool slightly, then peel.

While the yam is roasting, chop the onion and sauté it in the olive oil with a pinch of salt over medium-low heat, stirring often until it’s soft and browned, at least 20 minutes, longer if needed.

Peel and slice the carrots, parsnips and celery root and combine them in a medium soup pot with about 3 cups water, 1 teaspoon salt, the honey, and the spices. Simmer the vegetables, covered, until they are complete-ly tender, about half an hour. Add the roasted yam and the onion as soon as they are ready, along with the vegetable broth, grated orange rind, and citrus juices.

Purée the soup in a blender, in batches, or with an immersion blender until perfectly smooth. Return it to a clean pot, bring it back to a simmer, and taste it. Correct the seasoning with more salt or a little more lemon juice if needed. Stir in the butter at the end for a richer taste and silky texture—or leave it out if you prefer a vegan soup.

Serve the soup with a drizzle of fresh olive oil on top, and for a really spectacular dish, drop a spoonful of dark red salsa in the center of each bowl. A salsa that is not hot, just mildly spicy and incredibly flavorful, is a splendid finish.

In my last article I invited you to help me spread the word about our Fundraising-Recycling Program. The result was the placement of ten recycling containers in new locations, poten-tially keeping 20 tons of paper waste per month out of land-fills!

That growth also means SP Recycling can give money to ten more organizations that have a specific need for their fundrais-ing-recycling effort. Regional Operations Manager, Tom Kim-sey, has been with SP Recycling for more than 20 years. “I’m excited about this renewed recycling awareness in Florida. It can only help us reach our goal of sending 100 trailers per day, or 2,000 tons daily, to our mill.” He smiles with complete de-light when he says, “My greatest joy is knowing we give money away!”

In fact, the SP Recycling Family loves what we do. It is a uniquely spirited group of people who finds satisfaction in dealing with trash! It’s all in how you look at it and what you do with it!

South Region Director, J.J. Findlay, has been with the SP Re-cycling Corporation for over 23 years. He says, “SP has been ‘green’ and into recycling way before ‘green’ and recycling were cool!”

He adds that in those 23 years, “SP has recycled ten billion pounds, or five million tons, of old newspaper in Florida, sav-ing 15 million cubic yards of landfill space and more than 35 million trees. Non-profit organizations have also earned well over $25 million!”

There are two more SP Recycling Specialists in the State who love to establish recycling programs. Graceanna Henderson works the East Coast/South Florida areas. She says, “I grew up on a self-sustaining farm where reduce, reuse, and recycle were a part of my everyday life. It is such a joy to work for a company that teaches the next generation to be good stewards of this awesome gift called Earth.”

Gail Diggett works the Jacksonville/Gainesville areas and is “Just plain excited about it all! This is a simple, easy thing that people can do to benefit the community on so many levels.”

Gail, Graceanna, J.J. and Tom are only four members of our BIG family. SP Recycling has eight divisions in Florida, with bookkeepers, drivers, equipment opera-tors, hands-on managers; and, there are more SP folks at our mills in Georgia and Oregon, all with a single “$Ever-So-Green$” goal for everyone involved.

Floridians have a long way to go toward meeting Gover-nor Crist’s 75% recycling mandate by year 2020. Florid-ians are throwing away around ten pounds of garbage per day, totaling over 35 million tons per year. Of that amount, only 8.5 million tons, or 24%, is being recycled. And, of the 1.5 million tons of newspaper collected, only 39% of that amount is recycled.*

If you are aghast at those figures and are moved to lessen the waste-footprint on our earth, our SP Recycling family will happily help you, while raising money for your organization or favorite char-ity. Host a recycling container. Catch the Spirit! Join our Green Team!

* State of Florida DEP, MSW 2006 Final Disposition

Learn more about paper recycling at the SPRC webpage: www.sprecyclingflorida.com. Recycling Specialist, Denise Gainer has been “talking trash” since 2000 with anyone who will listen! Her goal is threefold: To educate people about their wastestream, recycle as much newspaper as possible, and by so doing, contribute to community fundraising throughout Central Florida.

There are two major transitions that every being makes in this life: birth and death. These two events are filled with the sacred-ness of homecoming (earthly or otherwise) and it amazes me that such a common occurrence is so unique for each and every one of us. Recently, I had the pleasure of being transformed into a mother, a participant in my own child’s homecoming. Maya

Juniper Rose’s arrival was the most blissful experience of my life. I had prepared for this passage by sorting through to the truth about

the ancient art of birthing, and prepared myself in mind, body and soul.

Fortunate to have witnessed four births prior to my own pregnancy, I am forever grateful for my experience as birth partner to my sister’s home birthed

hypnobaby. I, too, chose to birth my baby at home, in water, using hypnobirth-ing techniques under the guidance of experienced midwife Kelli Johnson,

CPM (A Mother’s Nature Midwifery).

By electing a home birth, I immedi-ately took the battle out of birth

that so many women experi-ence in a hospital setting. I

didn’t have to be jostled out of my trance in the ad-vanced stages of labor to drive to the hospital in an uncomfortable po-sition, lights and cars whizzing past, get set-tled in a strange room with beeping machines and unknown people peering at me, worried

about whether or not the hospital personnel would

separate me from my baby or support my decision to la-

bor naturally.

My hour long prenatal appoint-ments with Kelli built a con-

nection between us so that I had full faith and knowledge

of what to expect when my birthing time arrived.

By birthing at home, I could eat, drink, move

about, change posi-tion, be surrounded

by familiar people and things, have

anything I wanted an

arm’s stretch away.

With the security of my birth setting decided, I got busy on soul work. Unresolved issues can resurface during labor, stalling progress until addressed. Both the hypnobirthing program and the book “Painless Childbirth” by Giuditta Tornetta helped me sift through my own issues, bringing me peace.

Through this process, I discovered that finding balance between independence and interdepen-dence was the theme of this pregnancy. Facing single motherhood, I needed to know I have the courage and strength to birth and raise this child, yet I also needed to stay flexible and open to the support of my community of friends and family in order to feel secure, cared for and connected.

Maya’s birth reflected this balance perfectly. When I realized it was time, I called my midwife and my birthing party (soul sisters Amber, Sandra and Sharon; soul brother Henry). One by one they arrived at the house, smudging themselves with sage at the doorstep. I relaxed through each pres-sure wave (contraction), often swaying my hips to ambient music or being supported through touch by one of my sisters. I was so relaxed and calm, experiencing pressure but not pain that I wondered if I really was in labor. When Kelli arrived and announced that I was eight centimeters, I was excited knowing that I was really doing it and that it was indeed progressing as painlessly and peacefully as I had envisioned.

As my friends filled the birthing tub with hot water, my mood went from calm yet serious to more playful. The waves grew steadily more intense, but I still would not have described them as painful. In between, we were all laughing and joking. At one point, I glanced over to see my sisters doing a primitive birthing dance of their own. I felt supported knowing they were helping to carry the energy and sharing solidarity with me.

Finally, after 16 easy hours, the waves got really intense, and I found myself vocalizing in deep primal tones, even roaring like a lion at one point, much to my own amusement. I was squatting in the tub during contractions, resting or swaying my hips in between and sucking down coconut water like nobody’s business throughout these nine intense (but still not painful) pressure waves which spanned about 45 minutes. My water finally broke, so I instinctively put one hand down below to feel what was going on. It was amazing to feel the baby’s head crowning and finally ex-perience the legendary “ring of fire”—which hurt, but receded when the contraction ended. I was surprised when her head popped out, not only because I didn’t have to push, but also because oh-my-goddess! a baby’s head just popped out!

The next contraction slipped a beautiful being into the tub and everything was suspended in that moment as I first laid eyes on the love of my life, floating peacefully, eyes wide open, arms out-stretched beneath me. I reached in and scooped her to my chest, in-stantly recognizing that my love for her had no beginning and no end. I am forever empowered by my instinctive ability to do this unassisted, and thankful for my mid-wife’s wisdom and allowance. There I was, in the balance of independence and interdependence, having done it on my own, supported wholly by my friends and family.

Maya Juniper Rose did not cry, but looked around like a wise old soul as we were allowed to bond for two hours before I finally cut the cord and Kelli did a thorough exam on both mama and baby. We toasted champagne in celebration, and I was grateful to crawl into my own bed and fall into restorative sleep with my little sidekick suckling contentedly at my breast.

Bear witness to Maya Juniper Rose’s homecoming yourself. A moving slide show of the birth was captured by Cristy Nielsen and is available online at http://cristynielsen.com/maya. For more insights into empowered birthing, visit Julie’s natural parenting blog at http://gaiamama.wordpress.com

Beginning my massage doula practice is very exciting, and I feel blessed that it is finally coming to pass. For one to become certified as a doula one has to attend three births, as well as massage a number of preg-nant women in all trimesters and postpartum. The universe sent several pregnant mothers to me almost immediately to begin my journey toward certification. Like people, all births are different and the way that all the components show up has amazed me. There are things that can happen to some that do not happen for others, and women han-dle pain differently.

Hidden fears surface in the face of the unknown, no matter how many books have been read or childbirth classes have been taken, and nothing can truly prepare the first-time mother for the experience of childbirth. Now to say that I understand this from a mother’s standpoint is un-true. I have not delivered a baby in this lifetime. I have been present with first, second and third-time mothers to see the difference in how the labor process is approached and how it presents itself. It is all about the process, and the process of pregnancy and birth can be a scary thing for a woman. The changes that occur in her body are con-tinuous for nine months, with a huge push in the eighth and ninth months.

So what can help a pregnant woman in peacefully and gracefully moving forward on her journey? There is exercise, proper nutrition, balanced living, plenty of rest and lots of support, which is where the massage doula comes in. A massage doula provides support throughout the pregnancy, relieving stress on the woman’s body and mind, as there is more strain on the pulmonary, circulatory, diges-tive and renal systems as well as on the bones and muscles from extra weight. Massage during pregnancy relieves aches and pains, promotes blood and lymph movement, alleviates stress on weight-bearing joints, hips, pelvis, knees and ankles, relieves sore-ness in muscles, eases pressure and pain to the nervous system (including the sciatic nerve), promotes release of emotional and physical tension and prepares the woman’s body for delivery by loosening the pelvis and ridding her body of excess tension prior to the onset of labor. A doula answers questions and provides labor support for the mother and father/part-ner during labor in the home or in the hospital, augmenting and assisting (not replac-

Most pet owners would agree that mental and physical wellness is improved by owning a pet, and research has shown this to be true. According to a survey by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), more than 57% of American households own at least one animal; according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), pets not only provide a great source of so-cial support and unconditional love, but it has also been proven that they reduce their human’s stress, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and even possibly protect against heart disease. Pet owners have been found to suffer less from depression, possibly due to the levels of serotonin and dopamine that increase when you pet a dog or a cat. For this reason, therapy animals have been used for the elderly, children and hospital patients to assist them in feeling less isolated or lonely and to reduce anxiety and stress.

Service dogs are trained as companions to those who need emo-tional support after particularly traumatizing events. One study of stockbrokers found that those who had a pet and were placed in stressful situations were more likely to have lower blood pres-sure than those who did not have a pet. Many hypertensive subjects who did not adopt a pet were found to have higher stress levels and more emotional and physical health issues. Naturally, these same stockbrokers that did not have pets, adopted pets to improve their own health and overall companionship once the findings were made public!

Dog owners are more likely to get daily exercise walking their dogs, and enjoy the walk more with their dog’s company. By lowering blood pressure, cholesterol, and reducing the plaque buildup in arteries, these pet owners are actually reducing their chances of suffering from heart disease. The American Journal of Cardiology has even confirmed that pet owners are also more likely to survive a heart attack than non-pet owners. All pets, including dogs, cats, and even tropical fish can offer some kind of health benefit to their owners by reducing anxiety. Caring for and being greeted by our pets have lasting emotional and proven physical benefits that extend our own lives and happiness. Hav-ing a pet can even reduce the stress levels more than a spouse or close friend, which is attributed to the fact that our animals give us something otherwise difficult to obtain: complete unbiased and unconditional love.

Though we are graced by a more gentle winter than our brothers and sisters to the north, the changing of seasons is often sprinkled with sneezes and colored with the bug around the office.

Though some believe we are impervious to nature’s cycles, sea-sonal colds and allergies remind us how connected we are to the changes of the season. Though we may race from our cars to our houses, escaping the darkness by turning on the lights to keep working long after the sun has retired, our ancestral memories still remain connected to these cycles.

As the days shorten and the nights lengthen, it is common for even the healthiest among us to feel a sense of calm, a drawing inward. In this hustle-bustle society, it is common to push our-selves past this, especially as holidays approach with their long lists of to-dos. But rather than push our bodies out of this natural cycle, we would benefit from attuning to nature’s cycle. Tradi-tionally, and in climates to the north, wintertime was a time of inactivity. The fields and gardens were harvested and now rested in slumber. The trees were slumber in their starkness. Even the planet seemed to be resting. We spent our time with loved ones, reading or writing, set-ting our plans for our spring gardens, reflecting on what we’d accomplished and what lay ahead.

Part of this reflection is to look inward to our bodies, con-necting with its needs in this gentle time. It is a time, much like our nightly sleep, where our body restores itself.

As I approach the change of seasons, I look to my plant al-lies to support me through the change of the seasons:

Ashwaganda (Withania som-nifera): This Ayurvedic herb grows in abundance in my gar-den, and provides a powerful restorative tonic to strengthen my adrenal glands, immune, and nervous systems. It’s tasty when taken alongside cinna-mon, cardamom, and clove in warm hemp milk for an eve-ning beverage.

Garlic (Allium sativum): This potent antibacterial supports

the immune system in moving through any toxins that have built up through the fall months. It is a ‘must have’ when respi-ratory infections strike, as its anti-catarrh properties are virtually unmatched.

Bentonite Clay: A ‘must have’ for my family when seasonal al-lergies strike. With the change in seasons comes the pollination of our tree cousins, who affect 20-50% of us with sneezes and wheezes. Bentonite helps draw toxins away, though should be used in addition to a protocol to support the kidneys, liver, and nervous system, and build proper nutrition, to truly avoid al-lergies.

Walnut Flower Essence: Used for times of transition, it is no less appropriate for this seasonal transition. Flower essences are gentle enough for infants but amazing in their strength and ef-fectiveness.

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum): Cinnamon’s soothing, warming effect brings me joy and peace of mind, while settling my stomach. It is also a useful tea when cravings for chocolate

or sugar strike, so it helps me get into the season without indulging in foods high in sugars and gluten that can wear down my body’s de-fenses.

In a busy, hustle-bustle world, why not savor the opportuni-ty to slow down as the rest of the natural world slows down around us. The opportunity to restore and renew our en-ergies will be appreciated when the buds start bursting again come spring, so that we can fully enjoy the experience of the changing cycles.

I I learned about the miraculous abili-ties of the plant kingdom a long time ago. When I first started healing with herbs, I used to base my knowledge on both science and the folk history of the plants. As I gained experience, I realized that the plants were more complicated; I realized that I had to listen to what the plants were saying to me and to make a spiritual connec-tion with them.

I’d learned about making spiritual connec-tions with plants when I was a little girl. My grandmother would take me into her little backyard garden and encourage me to talk to the plants, insects, birds and the occa-sional duck that walked through her yard, and see what they had to say about their world. As a young girl this was easy to do,

as I didn’t have to “suspend” disbelief in the spiritual because faith was already there; it is part of our natural connection to the uni-verse. It is only as we become adults and have our faith repeatedly tested that we lose some of it and replace it with negative associations like distrust and fear. This loss of faith in the spiritual side of life can cause many imbalances in the body and mind, leaving a path open for dis-ease to enter.

One of my clients who had multiple health issues is a good example of how a loss of faith in people can affect your health. She told me that as a young woman she had been robbed on Christmas Eve. It destroyed her faith in the goodness of people. She made the correlation that this event had made her bitter and mistrusting, and within a year, her health had started to decline.

I found the particular plants that would treat her health imbalances, but as I was testing them on her, I kept hearing the vio-let leaf and lavender tinctures calling to me to test them on her. Violet leaf tincture has

the spiritual quality to restore childlike joy and happiness, while lavender tincture has the ability to erase spiritual darkness -- leav-ing a pure, bright and receptive spiritual canvas. So I added these tinctures to her blends and didn’t think about it until I saw her at her follow-up visit.

She seemed to be a different person: her eyes were shining with hope, happiness and—she was smiling. She told me that the tinctures had not only made her arthri-tis better and fixed her digestive issues, but that they had made her feel elated, open, and had restored her trust in the people around her. This change amazed even me, though I trust in the abilities of the plants and know their spiritual qualities.

Plants have the power to heal both medi-cal and spiritual disorders. It is up to us as healers to have a deep faith in not only the chemicals in plants that create change, but in their spiritual abilities as well.

From the Ayurveda, Shirodhara treat-ment offers one of the most divine and tranquil experiences available!

Ayurveda, the science for living a healthy and balanced life was devel-oped and perfected in India thou-sands of years ago. It has been almost unknown in the West. It contains knowledge that has immense value and benefit to all the inhabitants of this planet.

Shirodhara is a treatment given during the Ayurvedic rejuvenation process called Panchakarma. Shiro means the “head” and dhara means the “constant flow.” The treatment is a constant flow of warm herbal oil on the forehead poured from a copper container about 8-12 inches above the head. It is some-times rhythmically moving across the forehead and sometimes still. The oil is continuously flowing allowing it to run through the hair and the scalp. Shirodhara quiets the mind and the senses which allow the body’s natural healing system to release stress from the nervous system.

Shirodhara is usually given for 20-30 minutes for three to eight days in a row. The oils used are infused with special herbs that subtly transfer their healing qualities to the patient. The oils that are best for Shirodhara are Ksirabala tailam and Dhanvantaram tailam. These oils quickly support and balance Vata vayu, open the Prana shrotas channel and calm and nourish the nervous system.

Shirodhara has been traditionally shown to help with anxiety, fatigue, nervousness, mental exhaustion, in-somnia, some mental disorders, head-ache, excessive thinking, and many other conditions commonly affecting people in today’s active lifestyle.

Can our faith or lack thereof play a role in our health and our skin’s appearance?

Faith has been referred to as having complete trust; it’s a knowing that no matter what, everything is ex-actly the way it should be. It takes being with it regardless of whether it is to our liking or not. It has been said that when faith is not present, the opposite side is fear. Fear leads to worry and anxiety which ultimately creates stress.

Stress can often result in insomnia. At one time or another we all have suffered from mind racing thoughts and clock watching in lieu of a good night’s sleep. In the morning, we rise tired with dark under-eye circles and puffy eyes. However, the consequences are far more severe than that. At night, our bodies renew and repair while we sleep. Our body temperature rises allowing serums and other treatments to penetrate the skin better. During our sleep, our skin cells turn over more quickly and the human growth hormone aids in the repair of damaged cells for our skin, hair and nails. Lack of sleep not only affects our skin’s renewal process, but it can trigger the release of glucose and cortisol, the stress hormone. Overpro-duction of these hormones can lead to hypertension and Type 2 Diabetes which age our skin more quickly.

In order to maintain healthy skin we need daily cleansing, proper nutrition, water consumption, daily exercise, moderate sun expo-sure, and sound sleep (beauty sleep). Creating a soothing nighttime ritual can help transition us from our hectic lives. We should stay away from stress inducing activities like watching the news or read-ing the paper. Instead, we could enjoy a great book with a warm cup of chamo-mile tea, practice a form of medita-tion or yoga, or soak in a warm soothing aromatherapy bath. Bath-ing gently eases away mental and physical tension of the day allow-ing us to enjoy a restful night’s sleep. As a result, we will see the sparkle return to our eyes and a natural glow to our skin.

Remaining calm and centered ensures a restful night’s sleep. After all, a good night’s sleep is the best and least expensive beauty secret there is!

Enjoy this aromatherapy bath recipe and rest soundly and fully!¼ cup baking soda¾ cup epsom salt10-15 drops of one of the following essential oils (lavender, neroli, rose-wood, geranium)

Mix essential oil with salt and baking soda. Add to warm water and soak for 20 to 30 minutes.

Kovee C. suffered from fibromyalgia for several years. She said that everything hurt. Enduring chronic pain mainly in her shoulders, upper back and hips, she had experi-enced two major strokes and several minor ones around

the same time she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. She had regular falling accidents, was unable to climb stairs and couldn’t walk any distance. Her life was limited even after receiving tra-ditional physical and occupational therapy.

Fibromyalgia is a common, chronic condition with symptoms of specific tender points on various parts of the body, widespread musculoskeletal discomfort, fatigue and disturbed sleep. Other common symptoms include irritable bowel syndrome, urinary frequency, anxiety, headaches, and numbness or tingling. The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown. Conventional treatment may include antidepressants, anti-inflammatory drugs, muscle relax-ants, sleeping pills and anti-anxiety medications.

I view many symptoms of fibromyalgia as related to problems with an impaired circulatory system. Disturbance of the circula-tory system can result from a hyperactive sympathetic nervous system brought on by emotional disturbance, stress or inade-quate production of body heat.

Digestive system dysfunction is also closely related to fibromyal-gia. Approximately 50% of the body’s energy is used for diges-tion, producing heat as a byproduct. When the digestive system is sluggish, there is not enough heat. When the body cannot maintain proper body temperature, the body’s reaction is muscle constriction, which produces supplemental heat. Muscle con-striction on a chronic basis produces aching, fatigues muscles and retention of metabolic waste. After Kovee’s first visit she was surprised to be feeling better and began to feel more long term relief after about five treatments.

Acupuncture’s ability to affect deep layers of tissue is key to its success in pain management. It increases muscle relaxation, cir-culation and body temperature while enhancing the body’s func-tion. Acupuncture combined with chinese herbs to boost the digestive system and physical therapy is very effective in manag-ing pain.

Kovee came to ARC Physical Therapy and Pain Center and was surprised to feel better after her first visit although more pro-longed relief came after about five treatments. Along with acu-puncture, chinese herbs and physical therapy, she received mas-sage therapy and cupping. She no longer feels pain everywhere in her body and is mobile once again.

Every week I have a conversation, complete with laughter and tears, with two of my coaching

colleagues, Raye, who lives in Indiana and Vickie, who lives in Alaska. I mention where they are from to show that friends who have a heart connection can be anywhere. The richness of how we cultivate relationships takes our casual acquaintances and trans-forms them into intimate friends. Our talks always bring an “aha” moment for one, if not all of us, at different points. Here are eight of my “aha” moments in no particular order.

1. Delve Deeply. What choices have you made that have brought you to your

current position in life? What are the defining moments of your life?

2. Be Bold. There are no excuses. This is the time to be fearless and ex-

ercise your courage muscles. What is possible?

3. Follow Your Joy.What really lights your fire? Be honest. How can you fully

claim your place on the planet?

4. Lighten Up.Let your inner comic out to play. I was inspired to do just

that at a recent Toastmasters meeting and now I can’t get the comic back in!

5. Live Out Loud.Express your authentic self and watch heads turn! Accep-

tance of yourself is vital to being able to create and live the life you want. Have the courage to say what you think and believe.

6. Think Unstoppably. Can you re-ignite what you FEEL about your dreams and

take responsibility?

7. Be Yourself.Trust yourself and you will inspire others. Follow your in-

stincts and inner wisdom 100% of the time.

8. Relish Your Mojo.Live a juicy life filled with an open-mind and an open heart.

What does passion look like to you?

Call to Action 1.) Take some time to consider the above “aha” moments and write in a journal for 15 minutes each day.2.) How will you in-corporate these mes-sages more fully into your life?3.) What action are you going to take? Make one bold step that will move you confidently toward living out loud.4.) What long-term goal will you commit

to achieving? Will it be to give a humorous speech, sing in front of a crowd, or travel to Greece alone?

Life really is about making a choice, taking action, and committing to yourself.

This is your life.Reclaim it.

Granola is one of my favorite foods to eat this time of year. It’s sweet, satisfying, healthy, and makes a great gift for friends and family. Many store bought granolas are not only expensive, but they contain artifi-cial ingredients, chemicals, and preservatives that are harsh on our bodies. The solution: make your own granola! My homemade recipe is full of heart-healthy whole grains, amino acids, omega-3 fats, and delicious flavor.

My favorite way to eat granola is to sprinkle it on top of a bowl of organic vanilla yogurt. You can also eat it as a ce-real for breakfast or munch on a handful for a midday snack.

Laurel’s Homemade GranolaIngredients:6 ounces chopped walnuts2 ounces sesame seeds3 cups old-fashioned oats6 tbsp. honey6 tbsp. sesame oil1 cinnamon stick1/2 tsp. salt1/2 cup dried cranberries1/2 cup dried apricots

Directions:Combine oats, walnuts, and sesame seeds in a bowl and set aside. Then heat up the honey, sesame oil, cinnamon stick, and salt in a saucepan over low heat for about 5 minutes. Once it’s heated up, remove the cinnamon stick and pour the liquid over the oat mixture in the bowl. Stir to com-bine all the ingredients.

Spread out the granola on a sheet pan and bake at 350° for about 20 minutes. After baking, let the granola cool before transfer-ring back to a bowl. Chop up dried cran-berries and apricots and stir them into the oat mixture. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.

the comfort faith bringsby Jeanine D’Onofrio, PhD, ABD, LMHC, NCC

f aith allows individuals to change what is wrong to right, and turn darkness and pain into light and peace (Stedman, 1992). The power of faith can transform a person who has

succumbed to feelings of emptiness and despair to happiness and fulfillment.

In my mental health practice, I see troubled people trying to find their way through the chaos of the world. When hard-ships happen, people can utilize coping skills all day long, but sometimes that isn’t always enough to quiet the uncertainty and fear inside. There is a great sadness witnessing someone in pain and desperation, knowing that they have no faith in God and all his might. Those who lack faith haven’t recognized that afflictions are opportunities for God to demonstrate his power (Stedman, 1992). The peace of knowing God and what he is capable of doing is such a comforting feeling. It empowers and enables a person to move forward and confront challenges no matter what the challenge. It is hard to fathom those who do not possess that comforting feeling, especially in these chal-lenging times.

To achieve balance, peace, and harmony, an individual must be healthy mentally, physically, and spiritually. When one compo-nent is missing, the peace is harder to find. There are all kinds of intelligent and successful people in this world, who have mastered their respective fields and reached their dreams and goals, yet their inner spirit is starved for nourishment and they find themselves miserable (Carlson, 2001). Anyone can let go of the notion that they can do it all by themselves and give faith a chance because it has the power to change. References:Carlson, K. (2001). Meet Kim. A nutritionist for 30 years, a certified biofeedback specialist, all of 90 pounds, a wife and mother of twins. You’d think she’d be the last person to become seriously ill, but she developed pre-cancerous breast cells, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and cystic liver disease (her liver stuck out from her body). She was even placed on a liver transplant list with only a 40% survival rate.

Surgery was against Kim’s internal belief system so she went to Mexico to see a respected doctor there. She came home with a box full of $500 in nutritional supplements the doctor prescribed to be taken monthly.

Something propelled her to go on the Internet one last time to search for a solution to her poor health and to find some hope. She found a nu-tritional company called Ideal Health and she got a gut feeling about it. “I’m just going to trust it,” she said. She took the plunge and went to the company’s annual convention where she was warmly welcomed by the founders who invited her to sit at their dinner table and genuinely sup-ported her in her healing quest.

After two months on Ideal Health’s (now Trump Network’s, yes, as in Don-ald) customized supplements, Custom Essentials and Estrogena Caps to balance the good and bad estrogen, her pre-cancerous breast cells, chron-ic fatigue and fibromyalgia (said to be incurable by doctors) vanished. Her previously cystic liver receded into her body and she regained good liver function.

After Donald Trump became partners with Ideal Health in March of 2009, Kim became so successful connecting other people with the nutritional products and the business that her husband was able to quit his job. She even earned her dream car, a free Lexus vehicle, all within one year.

Now meet Jenna who opted out of this recession. A single mom of two kids, living in a trailer and shoveling horse manure for a living in upstate New York. She was on the verge of losing her trailer and she usually had to say “no” to her kids’ wants. They often didn’t even have enough lunch money for school.

When Jenna was introduced to the Trump Network she caught fire. Her mind literally changed as she transformed her thinking from semi-belief to BELIEF. Jenna borrowed some nice clothes and went out and shared the Trump Network program with the most successful people she could find in her community. A year and a half later, she enjoys driving her free red BMW convertible into the driveway of her four bedroom, three bath dream home. From her bedroom window , she can see her horses grazing in the field.

This nutritional program is successful because consumers first take any of seven metabolic tests which are sent to renowned Metametrix Clini-cal Laboratory. The Trump Network is the only non-physician group al-lowed to work with Metametrix. The tests look at the functioning of your cells and any damage to your DNA. H. V. Douglas, a five star formulary, then creates the appropriate supplement combination based on the test results and drawing from 50 pharmaceutical grade nutrients and miner-als. An approximate 90-95% absorption rate is a principal factor in the program’s high healing success rate. In most cases, just $2 a day is all it takes to get someone back on track with optimum physical health.

In the past, a comprehensive program like this was reserved for Olympian athletes, Hollywood celebrities and the very wealthy, but the Ideal Health founders chose to make it affordable for just about everyone.

The financial opportunity mirrors the exceptional nutritional plan. Don-ald Trump wanted to see people get free from the grips of the recession and modified the compensation plan to include weekly up front bonus checks plus excellent monthly residual income. Donald Trump will be an-nouncing Trump Network to the world in a huge media event Novem-ber 13 in Miami. New Green and Children’s Performance Products will be introduced then as well. With Donald Trump’s five star branded name, it takes less time to be financially successful than ever before.

Hygiene is the science that deals with the promotion and the preservation of

health. People who live hygienic lives are seldom sick and rarely get colds. Colds are caused by how we live although a virus or several kinds of disease germs do play a role in a cold’s prolifera-tion. These living conditions include exposure to cold and wet, exhaustion, insufficient physical exercise, overeating (especially such concentrated foods as meat, sugars and fats), diseased ton-sils and adenoids, and stress, all of which diminish the strength of our immune systems.

To be truly well, and free from the plague of colds, our immune systems must be called into action periodically. In the pre-an-tibiotic era, before World War II, enemas were a fact of life in many homes. If you had signs of a cold, you stayed home from school and probably had a series of enemas. The Adventist book, “Modern Medical Counselor,” prescribed enemas for a cold and so did the American Medical Association’s Secretary, Dr. Morris Fishbein, in his medical books of the ‘40s.

The colon stores toxic waste until it can be evacuated from the body. This matter is loaded with bacteria. During a cold, viral particles thrive in quantity in the colon. By gently wash-ing away this material either by colonic irrigation with a therapist or by enema, the body is now allowed to focus on the respiratory tract rather than the colon. When a rhino virus or pathogen is detected by transmitters in the colon, the immune system moves into response mode and the healing focus is placed largely on the colon. If the colon is cleansed through irrigation, the body will be able to focus its natural healing response elsewhere such as in the lungs

and nose. The quick use of colon therapy brings im-m e d i a t e relief and directs the immune m e c h a -nism to point to where it is most need-ed.

In addition to co-lonic irrigation, alka-lizing the body with lots of fresh green leafy vegetables and Vitamins C and A will boost the body to ward off the cold. The dark green leafy vegetables actually contain more Vitamin C than citrus fruits. It should be noted that vegetarians who se-

verely restrict or abstain from dairy products rarely get colds, so we might consider adopt-ing a more hygienic diet.

Of course, colon therapists are very knowledgeable about the benefits of colonic irriga-tion for fast relief of colds and flu. Colon hydrotherapy is completely safe, sanitary and gentle and actually promotes youth and longevity over time.

I want you to learn about someone near and dear to me who has become a wonder-ful friend. In all hon-esty, she could not be any closer to me than if she were my own mother. We share the same birth month of June and enjoy many of the same Gemini characteristics, and I was informally “ad-opted” by her when my own birth mother became incapacitated

with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Over the past several years, I have learned much from this “mother” of mine. At the age of 80, she continues to be a student of many subjects, but always a teacher of what she is learning. Most of her reading has been in the areas of reaching optimal health through nutrition, detoxification, pH balancing, iodine deficiency and use of seal salt for health. The learning she guides me to is exactly what I need; I have implemented it in my own family and also offer it to those I coach daily with their own health journeys. The results are most awesome and remarkable!

For the past year or so, this incredible woman has sworn off sugar, to which she was desperately addicted for most of her life. She has cut out most meats or animal products from her daily diet and toyed with juicing routines. She has stated many times, “I have never felt so good in all my life.”

Just weeks ago, my dear friend was diagnosed with breast cancer after having an abnormal mammogram while up north for the summer. A confirmatory ultrasound and biopsy were done. I was the one to give her the final diagnosis after reading the pa-thology report. With difficulty I made the phone call. “The report states that you have breast cancer,” I said.

“Nonsense! I have never felt more healthy in my entire life. I am not ac-

cepting this diagnosis and I am healing my body as we speak,” she said. She set to work on purifying her diet even more by eat-ing 70% raw foods, juicing only vegetables and very little fruit

(as fruit contains sugar, which in most any form feeds cancer cells). She is practicing daily affirmations, receiving weekly mas-sages, and brushing her dry skin daily with a body brush to move her lymphatic fluids along faster. When she returns to Florida, she intends on adding infrared sauna treatments to her wellness plan.

She has opted not to have any conventional medical treatment, as she denies the diagnosis emphatically. She exudes confidence that her body has already healed whatever “congestion or block-age” was present at the time of the mammogram.

Daily, she shares with me her positive thoughts, her happy mo-ments with her family and her aspirations for the future. I am most inspired by her courage, faith and conviction to rebuke ill-ness, affirm wellness and manifest her ultimate truth for all to witness. I am so ever grateful for this divine connection I share with her. She is truly an inspiration to us all!

Some believe that Kabbalah dates from the times of

Moses and Abraham. Through the centu-ries it was thought of as a Jewish mysti-cal path open only to married Jewish men over the age of 40 who are perceived by their rabbi to be on a spiritual path. While many Jews still hold this view, today this ancient concept is being challenged and Kabbalistic teachings are now available to anyone looking for guidance on their spiritual path. The basic tenets of Kab-balah are guides for living that may be integrated into any religion or used by those who are seeking spirituality on their own, as opposed to through a religion.

While many of the tenets of Kabbalah are recognizable from other sources, the key is how we apply them in our lives today.

So here are some basic concepts we can learn to use. One is that God is unknowable. We know aspects of God, but not the totality of God. Some of the aspects are unlimited joy, love, and happiness. Another concept is that there is one percent of the material world that we know through our five senses. This world is reactive, chang-ing, often chaotic and ruled by Murphy’s Law. There is also a 99% world, a world of spirituality, order, and perfection. It is a world of action, of being proactive, and is filled with joy, fulfillment, infinite knowledge and positive, lasting change. It is this world we strive for. In this world there are no limitations or lack. Here we become the benefactors of all the aspects of God. So how do we get from the one percent to the 99%?

One way is to become proactive in all we do. To become proactive we have to become aware of being reactive—we have to observe our behaviors, all of them, large and small. For instance, when we pick the shortest line at Wal-Mart and it proves to be the slowest, how do we act/react? With impatience or anger? Do we take it out on the sales clerk? What pushes our buttons? Once we recognize we are being reactive, we can tell ourselves to stop and take notice of the

self-talk (the things we say in our own minds), talk-ing ourselves into anger or impatience. Once recog-nized, we can then change our perspec-tive and transform the challenge into an opportu-nity. An easy thing to do? A b s o l u t e l y NOT.

In the begin-ning we usually react, then recognize the reaction. But with practice we can become proactive. Is it worth the effort? AB-SOLUTELY! As more and more of us become proactive we create a world of joy, peace and happiness. (We don’t know how important our smile is to that beleaguered Wal-Mart sales clerk).

Kabbalah teaches that when enough of us spread joy and peace through our lives, we can change the world.

Dr. Ina Anderson is a teacher and student of Kabbalah. As a member of Unity-Leesburg (ad below), she finds Kabbalah a practical application of universal spiritual truths. For more information about Kabbalah: www.kabbalah.com

Emotional ForeclosureReexamining Our Priorities in Lifeby Diane J. Ackerman

When we deny our responsibility and fail to become account-able for our actions we experience what I call, “Emotional Foreclosure.” We find ourselves sitting at the dining room table wondering what happened and where did our lives go wrong. We feel drained of our energy, void of emotion and wonder, what’s next? We place ourselves under a mental microscope and me-thodically dissect our emotional funk. While rationalizing our despondent state of mind we blame the current economic crisis, our failing relationships, our out-of-control children, or the boss, but not OURSELVES! We start ‘should-ing’ ourselves and feel mired in a sea of denial. We feel hurt or fearful, so we internal-ize our feelings or we force our wills on others, claiming that our way is the better way.

Whether we are religious, spiritual or atheist, we are all beings with thoughts that play havoc with our common sense. Perhaps we need to step back and re-think our positions by asking, How did I make money before the crisis? What made me love you yester-day? Are you a reflection of me? How can I help? The solution is simple, however, it will not be easy.

Just when we feel that life has turned into a pile of crap, we turn to the dog—yes, Fido, the only truly compassionate and uncon-ditionally loving being left in our lives. We gaze into his big brown eyes while receiving a sloppy face wash from his sponge-like tongue. At that moment, we drop our defensive shroud of blame, shame and fear and allow the inner candle of our soul to ignite its flame—to soothing hues of blues and violets. Our spirit is lifted and our subconscious mind chimes in with a rekindled feeling of hope as we see our reflection in the window; it’s not DOG, it’s GOD! There is no foreclosure. Just a refinancing of the soul—a spiritual bail out.

This can be accomplished by gently re-examining our priorities. When we release ourselves from the limiting thoughts and belief pat-terns that we have for years perceived as truths, we can embrace a new freedom to ‘re-lease’ our positions in life. We change our paradigm from “What’s in it for me?” to “There is a blessing in this lesson.” As Oscar Wilde, once noted, “We are all in the gutter, but some are looking at the stars.”

Emotional Foreclosure Classes are held at Alter-nate Pathways Out-Reach, Monday evenings at 315 E. Maud St., Tavares. Please call 352-343-3380 for more information and refer to Diane Ackerman’s ad this page.

We all, in some way or another, feel the effects of what is all around us. To the extent and how this controls our lives is often much more than we realize.

How would you like to be in control of your own destiny, to be in control of your own life so that you feel safe, happy and fulfilled all the time, no matter the circumstances? The big focus today is the economy. Most people are affected and feel a great sense of fear and doubt about how their lives will continue to function. As this thought repeats itself in the mind, growing stronger and stronger, it seems to grow like a plant being fed, but instead of the plant be-coming a beautiful flower, it grows wild, developing huge stabbing thorns.

How can we stop this? How can we change this sense of ‘re-ality’ we are experiencing? It is really simple. We must first recognize that all this began with an emotion—fear. Fear is a real thing, felt from the intuitive or subliminal level all the time in some form or another. It is the silent strangler of our lives. We just need to re-alize it has a hold of our throat and is squeez-ing our life away. All we have to do is release it.

The time is now, even more than in the past, to consciously understand the influences around us. We must all ‘awaken’ to transform, not only our individual lives, but our world as a whole. The level of fear present today is overwhelming and growing but only if we don’t stop and recognize how we are con-tinuing to feed it.

How is your life? Are you happy, safe, and satisfied with your day to day? If you feel there is something greater and can’t figure it out, there is help. Through my work in ‘energy healing,’ I have come to understand what really drives our engine.

I’m sure most of you have heard the phrase ‘energy heal-ing’ used many times and ex-plained many ways. ‘Energy’ represents emotions and ‘heal-ing’ represents clarity, so for me, ‘energy healing’ means

‘emotional clarity.’ We obtain emotional clarity when the heal-ing practitioner matches our existing energy by reading it and giving feedback of what is observed back to us, the client. Some of this feedback may be about our childhood, our thoughts or perhaps how we are feeling. In energy healing, all of this is used to help move us out of the energy that is creating the problem. The literal ‘moving out of ’ process expands and el-

evates the recipient’s energy.

Everyone has a certain frequency in which they operate in energetically. This

frequency is the individual’s rate of vibration. This rate is determined

by our emotional state. Emo-tions, too, have frequencies or rates of movement. Emo-tions of fear, shame, lack emit very dense, slow fre-quencies and love, happi-ness and safety emit very light, fast rates.

Through the process of en-ergy healing, we are moved

from a dense, slow, low rate to a higher, lighter, faster one. The

client achieves clarity and a feeling of betterment.

Every individual begins life with a true sense of high vibration and clarity, thus having a sense of pres-

ence available. As development occurs, the influences around us begin to taint our experiences causing us to turn down the volume on our presence, thus lowering our vibration to unfor-tunately allow fear to dominate our energy and emotions.

We basically, unintentionally allow ourselves to become con-trolled by these subtle energies around us and have little to no knowledge or awareness about what is controlling us. It’s time

we realize this and make the changes necessary to truly have the happy, safe wonderful lives we all seek.

Unlike harmful cleaners and chemicals, ozone has no lingering effects, and leaves no toxic resi-

due. One hour after the treatment, the only by-product is pure oxygen. It’s clean, safe and simple, and doesn’t create any long-term residue.

When oxygen (O2) rises into our planet’s atmosphere and is ex-posed to the ultraviolet rays from the sun, mother nature con-verts it into ozone (O3). This is what we call the ozone layer and it protects us from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.

Ozone is made up of three atoms of oxygen (O3), temporarily bonded together, which is an unstable and reactive molecule. It looks for something to oxidize, resulting in pure, safe, breathable oxygen. The oxidation process also has the effect of destroying or altering whatever molecule it bonds with. A perfect example of this is when iron rusts or when a slice of apple turns brown.

Large amounts of energy are required to create ozone by bond-ing the three oxygen molecules together. Most of us have smelled the clean fresh air right after a powerful lightning storm. It wasn’t just fresh air, it was more likely that you smelled the ozone that was created by that powerful act of nature. Those lightning bolts which were traveling through the air generated enough energy to form a reasonably small number of O3 molecules. They dissipate quickly after a storm.

Put simply, ozone is made up of something we depend upon to exist, which when concentrated to very high toxic levels, is able to kill bacteria, virus or mold, soon thereafter reverting back to its non-toxic form.

Ozone “shock treatments” are simply high levels of ozone con-fined to a specific area for a limited amount of time. These are very effective for removing stubborn odors like smoke from a fire, mildew and animal odors. Many hospitals around the world use ozone to sterilize operating theaters between operations. Af-ter each operation has been completed and the routine manual cleaning performed, the doors and ventilation points are sealed and a vast amount of ozone is injected into the room. Every day around the world, hospitals and ordinary homes are cleaned using the amazing power of natural ozone. One of the only non-chemical ways to effectively sterilize an area of mold and bacteria or remove certain serious odor causing problems is with these very high levels of ozone.

These treatments are safe because they are only done in unoccu-pied rooms. The professional operator turns the ozone generator up to its maximum capacity of ozone output, sets the countdown timer, and leaves the room. People, animals and plants can then return to the area an hour or more after the unit’s timer has shut the machine down at which time all the ozone will have reverted back to simple, breathable, safe oxygen. These high ozone shock treatments are what kill mold and bacteria, not the low levels used for air purification in the “As Seen On TV” type models.

Ozone is possibly the strongest sterilizer known to mankind, yet it has an overall fail-safe because it is made up completely of oxygen and reverts back to perfectly safe and breathable oxygen in a relatively short time.

For more information on this and other green and non-chemical home and business cleaning methods, please see Liam Hail’s ad for Odoronix, top of column 1, next page.

Getting clear on our life path is not an easy thing.

I am smiling now, when I recollect this. I thought I had a real handle on my purpose—and there-fore my ultimate destiny. But when forced to look at my life again and really clari-fy my purpose, I found myself floun-dering in a set of goals tied with doing instead of my ultimate being.

I spent three intimate days in New York City working on the idea of my authen-tic purpose with Michael Gerber, the brilliant au-thor of “The E-Myth Re-visited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It.” We began in a bright room called “The Dreaming Room” with a pad of white paper and colorful markers. He told us to write down what we are here for. Through a series of profound questions and many cathartic conversations we arrived at one conclusion: To bring Heaven onto Earth in our businesses.

That night I took the hotel elevator to my room on the 27th floor and looked out the floor-to-ceiling window at the spar-kling colors of the city. I felt much fear as I dreamed about “what I was here for.” I listened to my yapping mind, “Who do I think I am? How would I ever attain the big dream I carry! Look at all of them! How will you possibly help these people? There are too many! Who will want to help you do this?”

The next day in The Dreaming Room I raised my hand and voiced my experience. “Michael, last night I felt so much fear. How can I eradicate this, and why would I be having all this?”

Michael leaned forward and stated sweetly, “Fear will always be with you. It is one of the many personas in our mind. Use the voice of fear for information. Then prepare for what it is telling

you.” Everyone in the room seemed to be grateful for my confes-sion and seemed ready to face their fears.

I decided to share my vision, purpose, and mission. “My vision is to live an enlightened life. To awaken others to living

an enlightened life. Enlightened living means a clean life. My purpose is to awaken others

to enlightened relationships with God, Self, and others. I am an enlightened

healer, author, speaker, and artist.” My vulnerable and wise proclama-

tion harmonized with every cell in my body as I spoke.

The next day I was trapped in New York because of a storm, and I knew that I needed to integrate this new spiritual shift into my body. Fortu-itously, I met with Deepak Chopra’s right-hand woman, who worked with me to inte-

grate the shift.

Within a few days of returning home, my entire staff had left my

office. The office space became a place for new people to come and

share in the vision that I now carried. My business attracted the right people

who had their own desire to be part of what I was purposed for. They all came to me by right

of my consciousness.

My business opportunities are now funneled through my pur-pose to live an enlightened life. With all the choices, options, and opportunities, I simply ask myself, “Is this in tune with my purpose in this life? Does this make my connection to God, my real self, and to others?” It’s always an instant “yes” or “no.” It makes every decision easy. That is the clarity and the power of knowing your purpose.

Moving deeper into the “shifting of the ages,” with each moon cycle we grow; with each year cycle we evolve. Autumn is the end of the year cycle and on the Winter Solstice, the Sun is re-born, beginning a new year cycle. During Au-tumn we examine our harvest—the outcomes and results of our work and experiences over the past year. What is worthy of keeping and what is not working? Time to clean out, let go and release what does not bear fruit or support our sense of wholeness.

During the time of SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21), the overriding energy is death and rebirth, facilitating the cleansing process. When we release, we make room for something new to come forth in our lives. Keep this in mind around the full moon in Scorpio of November 2. If you are in the middle of a decision, life cri-sis or challenge, place it in the hands of the Uni-verse! Affirm your faith and trust that ALL is in Divine and perfect order. Focus on your high-est desires and have faith in God/Goddess/the Universe that your life is evolving in line with your highest good. And remember, sometimes that highest good is far better than we ever imagined!

November 11 (11-11-11--2009=11) is an aus-picious portal in time and space. Gather with others to pray and meditate and allow yourself to be a conduit or lightening rod for the cosmic energies coming to Earth. What an incredible time to be alive on our planet!

While the Sun moves through the sign of SAG-ITTARIUS (Nov. 21- Dec. 20), the energy shifts our focus to tuning more deeply into the spiritual nature of our being. The full moon in Sagittarius on December 2 has the potential to shed light on the broader picture—how can we bring the way we are living even more into alignment with our true essence? What is our refined role or mission in the scheme of things as we move towards a more uplifted sense of interconnection with all life on our Earth? Al-low the fire energy of Sagittarius to ignite your passion for world service. Ask for guidance around the full moon and listen to what comes to you!

As we move through this time of decreasing light with shorter days and longer nights await-ing the birth of the sun on the Winter Solstice, fill yourself with light, surround yourself with light and allow your heart to open, and radi-ate loving light to everyone around you and to every situation in need. See LOVE and LIGHT expanding everywhere!

ARIES (March 20-April 19) This is not a time to push yourself to act quickly or impulsively. In-stead, ask for the guidance or insight you need in your prayers and meditation and then take some time to listen. Trust your inner guidance and con-tinually affirm your faith and trust that you are indeed being guided in each and every moment. AFFIRMATION: I listen to the guidance coming from deep within. I feel supported by the Earth beneath me and by the Light within me. I AM THAT I AM.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20) What has been push-ing for a change in your life? Do it now! It may be uncomfortable and even scary—almost like dy-ing to a part of yourself. Know that you are pre-paring to be reborn into a new sense of self. Let go of whatever is holding you back or very obvi-ously not working. Totally trust that it is in line with your highest good to move forward unen-cumbered by the old and outmoded. It is time! As the days pass, you will feel so much lighter! AFFIRMATION: I release, let go and move on. The past is over. I am open to integrating a more joy-ful, lighter expression of my true self. I AM free!

GEMINI (May 21-June 20) Remember to call on the support and guidance of your spirit guides, angels and inner knowingness. Your are indeed being Divinely guided. When your mind starts going in circles, take a deep breath or two and bring your focus to your heart center. Ask your-self, “How do I feel regarding this situation?” Your feelings are your barometer, not your logi-cal mind. Don’t doubt yourself and never doubt that your soul is guiding you! AFFIRMATION: As my life unfolds before me, I feel the support of the Universe. As I step into each new day, I feel the joy of being alive!

CANCER (June 21-July 22) Continue to observe your thoughts and quickly shift any doubts or worry to a more positive vision. Remember, it is a waste of your energy to fixate on why, what if or what should, could or would be! Keep your focus on what you truly desire to manifest. Enjoy the process. Have fun with your imagining! If you have been working diligently on this, feel good about your progress. Aren’t you seeing some no-ticeable results from the conscious focus you have been putting into your thoughts recently? Let each positive result empower you to keep moving forward. AFFIRMATION: I have total faith in my ability to create the life of my dreams. I AM em-powered!

LEO (July 23-Aug.22) Remember the magical, mys-tical part of life. When you feel doubt, worry or come upon a challenge, give your concern up to the Universe as if you are joyfully releasing a bird from your hands to fly free. Let it go, take a breath and then think of the most positive outcome for your concern that you can imagine. You don’t have to figure it out! Keep bringing your focus back to the positive and watch it manifest! AFFIRMATION: Life is magical! It always unfolds in a way that sup-ports my highest growth. I AM grateful.

VIRGO (Aug.23-Sept.22) Notice what the people in your life are reflecting to you. Don’t take the words or actions of others personally. Instead, ask yourself what they are teaching you about your-self. What are you learning about how you interact with the world that can assist you in your growth at this time? Remember, it is not about them. It is about you and your unfoldment. Appreciate the pearls of wisdom you are receiving. They are indeed enhancing your bright spirit! AFFIRMA-TION: As I gaze into the night sky, I see my inner beauty reflected by the moon and stars as they guide me on my journey towards wholeness.

LIBRA (Sept.23-Oct.22) Consider the three months after your birthday as a time to set the foundation for your year ahead. What are you thinking about and focusing on? Is it what you truly want? Let your imagination run free. Give yourself time and permission to create wonder-ful, life-affirming visions about what you desire to see manifest as the year progresses. Enjoy yourself making a vision board and/or creating affirmations to assist you in keeping your focus positive. AFFIRMATION: I enjoy each day as it unfolds bringing me all the love, joy, peace and abundance I desire.

SCORPIO (Oct.23-Nov.21) As you complete one year and begin a new one with your birth-day, take time to contemplate your blessings. Think upon the many ways you have grown and evolved over the past year. Be grateful for your challenges. They are the jewels that encourage us to grow and step more fully into our true selves. Bless the good, the bad and the difficult and trust that thay are all a necessary part of your journey to wholeness. AFFIRMATION: I AM blessed. I thank myself and the Universe for co-creating a life filled with joy, abundance and inner peace. I AM blessed!

SAGITTARIUS (Nov.22-Dec.21) Any stress or challenge you are experiencing needs to be ad-dressed as soon as possible. Begin by cleaning out your home, office, garage, basement and car. Get rid of extra, useless stuff to help move and shift the energy as you prepare to begin a new year with your birthday. Next, work on the emo-tions that are bubbling up to the surface. What do you need to change within you or around you in order to move towards a place of inner peace? Take care of business, simplify and come home to a clearer sense of self. AFFIRMATION: As I let go of what I no longer need—emotionally, physi-cally, mentally and spiritually—I align more fully with my true essence.

CAPRICORN (Dec.22-Jan.19) What perceptions or beliefs about yourself or life just don’t fit any more? This has been a powerful year for you. Pluto transiting through your sign is assist-ing you in redefining who you are. This can be stressful as core beliefs are being challenged. Carefully examine your reactions. Give yourself permission to change what you know in your heart needs to be changed in your beliefs and in how you are living your life. Go for it! AFFIR-MATION: I fully embrace life in every moment. Each day I step more fully into the most mag-nificent version of myself! And so it is!

AQUARIUS (Jan.20-Feb.18) Take time to rest, relax and go within reviewing this past year—your accomplishments, major insights and ways you have deepened your connection to Spirit. Be gentle with yourself. Appreciate how hard you have worked and how far you have come along your path in this year alone! Good job! Re-new your body, mind and soul with some extra sleep, a massage, a Reiki session, a relaxing bath or a quiet walk in nature. You deserve it! AFFIR-MATION: I AM blessed! The Earth supports me! Spirit guides me! Every moment is perfect!

PISCES (Feb.19-March19) Your concentrated focus of the past few months may be coming to fruition now. Observe your thoughts and ob-serve your life. Are you now more clearly aware of the power you have to create your life? If you are not happy with what you see manifesting, than change your thinking. Remember, you are the only one responsible for your life. Be diligent in observing your thoughts and words, quickly changing your focus when it is not the very best you wish to create for yourself. AFFIRMATION: I AM empowered! I AM consciously creating my life and see only the very best unfolding before me! I AM blessed!

The third step is a belief that a power greater than yourself (or your greatest Self) can bring more life force into you, so that a mental, emotional or physical healing can occur. This is the realm of faith. Different names and symbols are used by people all over the world and each group has reported miracles hap-pening in the name of different symbols of divinity. How does this work? Doesn’t everyone argue that their God is the greatest? How can miracles happen in the name of “lesser” Gods? The answer here brings us ever closer to “Being, God, Self.” Jesus said that if you have faith the size of a mustard seed (small faith belief ) you can say to the mountain, “Move,” and it will move.

What does this really mean? We are very powerful energetic be-ings who have lost the owner’s manual to our own Self and how

we operate. Most of us operate separately from the universe (world) around us

as dualistic beings caught up in un-conscious dramas. We cannot be-lieve we are powerful enough to summon up the energy to heal ourselves, others or the planet. We look outside ourselves to symbols of divinity in order to concentrate our belief, inten-tion and power. The logical side of our being needs a logical belief

in a mechanism that could cause a healing, even if it’s an almost im-

possible, last ditch Hail Mary, one in a million rescue from divinity. The fact

that there is a remote shot at all gives hope, which is enough of a foothold for the logical side

of your Being to believe in. This belief in hope (a small belief the size of a mustard seed) allows the Being side of your nature, the one that is always anchored in the divine, the part of you that is connected to everything in the universe, to flood you with life force, and allows you to receive a mental, emotional and physical healing in the name of “the divine outside of yourself.” And it works!

The same mechanism occurs consciously in some individuals who use the same principles

to help themselves and others. Instead of looking for external symbols of divinity they look within the depth of meditation and find that the deeper they go into themselves, they plunge into a silent deep space that is the source of, and the connection to, everything. This space has the qualities of a silent mind in a state of deep gratitude (some call it bliss). This space’s nature is virtue, compassion, truth, and tolerance for itself and all that is—because it is all that is. They realize that this is who they really are, and the nightmarish dream of duality ceases, because in space there is no “other.” In being their true Self, they realize that there are no others, only the one creative space Being in this moment.

Having realized that they have awoken out of the dream of un-consciousness, they can call in and awaken the dream of divinity,

It’s been said that faith can move mountains; it can also be said that mountains can move faith. I’ve been a student of the healing arts for many years, always intrigued by cases that defy medical science. In these cases, someone gets a grave prognosis and is told to go home and get their affairs in order because they have a short time to live. Somehow, to the amazement of their

physicians, these people return well with the disease in remission. In most of these cases, a strong faith in life-affirming beliefs overrode the life-decreas-ing beliefs that caused disease, and the patient got better. In some of these cases, people moved faith on their own, where others employed the help of an energy healer to guide them through the

healing process.

Fascinated by these medical miracles, I studied energy healing techniques from all over the world. I found that different details and methods varied due to cul-tural, traditional and religious beliefs and geographical location, but at the core there are some commonalities.

The first step is to surrender to what is. Life gives you a sudden serious change of plans, a cataclysm, and you’re suddenly forced to deal with matters that can’t be ignored. The old patterns and dramas don’t seem too important now. Time seems to stop for maybe the first time in a long time. You’ve been dealt a bad hand and you can only seem to play the best of very bad cards. Your choice as always is to play them with grace or surrender to your animal nature and go kicking and screaming. If you choose grace and surrender to what is, there is a certain non-attachment to any outcome that brings peace. This surrendered non-attachment is the first key to any physical or emo-tional healing.

The second step is an honest and thorough inventory of the beliefs, roles, events, things and mental positions that have de-fined you until now. Who are you really? Which roles have served you and which ones have not? Who have you affected negatively? Who has hurt you? Go deeply into the question “Who AM I?” Take inventory for anyone or anything you have hurt and ask the universe for forgiveness. If anyone has hurt you, send them your sincere forgiveness and find the gift in your in-teraction with them. How were they your teacher? How are you stronger, better, wiser because of your exchange with them? For-giveness of yourself and others from shame and guilt and find-ing the gift of gratitude for your experience releases enormous amounts of energy and raises your vibration.

their own divine potential that lives within their chest, the center of their Being. Knowing that the divine lives in their heart, they anchor themselves between heaven and earth. Using the engine of the breath they move their awareness and harness universal energy (prana, chi, spirit).

There are several variations of an ancient meditation known as the tree meditation or great heavenly circuit, which is used to charge the body with an abundance of universal energy. The body is grounded to the negative polarity below in the center of the earth through energetic lines, and is connected out the top of the head through energetic lines to all of the mountains and the cosmos. The breath is used to move a ball of awareness, fueled by gratitude for the beauty of nature, guides and power symbols, and the good around, above and below you. This ball of aware-ness, your awareness, is moved with the breath to the center of the earth up through you into the cosmos and down through you like a wave of peaceful, grateful, virtuous lightening into the earth and back up again, over and over. This engine of divine love can be concentrated in your heart and used to bless and heal your own wounds—mental, physical or emotional. It can also be directed for the benefit of others as a wave of healing energy.

Faith fueled by a knowing of who we really are, no longer the size of a mustard seed but the size of a mountain, and mountains can move mountains. Hope is not just a foothold, but a know-ing that in the realm of all possibilities all things are possible. With divinity in your heart all possibilities that are in the best interest of you and within divine Will, will occur. Here’s where non-attachment comes in.

“Not my will but your will be done,” says the enlightened mas-ter. From our limited perspective it is hard to see that a healing occurs unless a “miracle” happens, let’s say remission of a terrible disease. But what about the patient who dies but is liberated and healed of a mental or emotional hell. In their last hours and days, they receive a state of peace and redemption at the soul level. Is this healing of the soul not more profound than the mere healing of the body?

So, the fourth key for energy healing is hope that every little thing is going to be all right in the end, from a cosmic evolution-ary perspective.

The fifth principle of energy healing is ritual. We are energetic beings vibrating in a world of forms. Using our intention, faith, hope, and gratitude we perform physical ceremonies and rituals that concentrate our mental intent in the physical world. We can use physical symbols and intention charged with our Faith in order to symbolize our intention and our gratitude. Our faults can be written down and released in water, the symbols of what holds us back can be blown into a stick and burned in a fire. A small altar can be erected as a symbol of gratitude. Nothing fan-cy is needed, only pure intent using nature’s archetypal images. The ways to do this are as numerous as the symbols of divinity. My advice is to keep it simple. All you need are simple rituals that symbolize a shift in consciousness and their manifestation in physicality.

The general areas to concentrate on are forgiveness of yourself

and others (mentally, emotionally and physically), deep gratitude and reverence for Being itself, shown as a gesture of apprecia-tion to your reflected divinity outside yourself—manifested as symbols, sages, the beauty of nature, your nature of “Beauty and Being.” Gratitude for “all that is” regardless of polarity is the key. Because “all that is,” is space vibrated into form and space. “Be-ing” is all you are, your very Self. Show appreciation to your enemies and soon you’ll have no enemies.

No one ever talks about the maintenance of a miracle once it hap-pens. It’s important to keep the body charged by a constant, con-scious connection with the divine in the present moment, with a silent mind, fueled by the feeling of gratitude for the beauty in nature and all the virtue that is around, above and below you. To be, move and shake this awareness with every breath is the true miracle of soul healing and humanity’s ultimate destiny.

I have faith (the size of a mountain of mustard seeds) that as we employ these ancient techniques toward our individual and col-lective healing, groups of the healed will be large enough to heal the external world out of the nightmare of unconscious. This will soon be a reality, and collectively we will say to our mountains of troubles “Move,” and they will become fertile valleys of human potential.

In the beginning, there is a yearning, an emptiness that haunts each of us, asking us to adventure beyond what we now know. This emptiness is not sat-isfied by concepts, structures, beliefs, faiths/religions or the governments of this world. It haunts us, driving us in search of something to fill it, anything that might give our lives substance and meaning. We look in bookstores, go to lectures, and we subscribe to religious ideas. But nothing seems to satisfy this emptiness.

“That which you are seeking is what’s causing you to seek.”

So in our search through the river of life, as we commune with this empti-ness and persevere in our search, we eventually stumble across the stepping stones to freedom, for they are there for all seekers to find. The first one is hope. Hope that there are other people that feel the same way we do, that we can share our hope, that we can share

our quest to fill this yearning emptiness that relentlessly haunts our lives.

As we find others and share comfort, we find ourselves on the second step-ping stone, belief. We are not alone! We find common ground and texts, structures, rituals, doctrines that talk about what they believe coming from their hope, all stemming from the exploration of the haunting empti-ness. As time pass-es, more structure, more form, more ritual and doctrine are given to our hope and belief.

Faith becomes the next stepping stone. Faith is a structured form of belief (re-ligion); faith and belief are the foun-dation of religion. Here people can linger and rest, finding comfort in the strength of their faith, their texts, their doctrines, their familiar ceremonies and rituals. All of these offer comfort and familiarity, qualities loved by the emotions and the mind.

When not satisfied by that, eventually everyone is still haunted by the empti-ness, somehow, not satisfied, still com-pelled to search, to question the faith, requiring proof. Belief no longer be-ing enough, they jump off the stone of faith, leaving its apparent safety to land on the next stone on the river of life, experience—only when we want to feel firsthand what this emptiness is all about.

That’s when we move beyond the realms of hope, faith and belief. Here we realize that where we are, the only way to proceed is to let go of the stones we have picked up, for they are no longer needed. We leave them for others that are on the search. If we in-sist on carrying them, they will only weigh us down as we make our jump into the one thing that will begin to fill the emptiness that has propelled us on. The shores of realization, the great Aha! Here we come full circle, our faith is proven, it becomes unshakable as we realize through our own experience and with great sweetness, that “That which we have been seeking IS!”

Faith on the Higher Levelby Vil-Am Ben-Ahim, D.C.

Understanding the idea of faith isn’t an easy thing to do. We all seem to feel we know what it is to have faith, yet how many of us really know? Faith in what? In others? In a concept? In a church? In our government? In God? In our religion? Why might we believe in any of these? Is it because someone told us we should? Is it because everyone else does? We have been told to have faith, to be faithful, and we’ve even heard the phrase, “blind faith.” We use the word in so many contexts in our lives; even without using the word, how often are our lives ruled by faith in something? Do you have faith in the institution of marriage or faith that the sun will rise in the east tomorrow morning?

I guess it behooves us to ask why we trust in what we do, and is there a higher way to approach the issue? How many places in our lives do we trust in things, concepts or organizations simply because it’s easier to accept others’ opinions? Are we giving up our power to others? Have we lost the desire to question and challenge accepted beliefs? Better yet, might we work to develop the ability to look deep within ourselves for the answer? Perhaps we can create a substratum within our being to receive a mysti-cal, personal knowingness around which we can build our faith.

Trusting in our own abilities to know the deeper truths is having a true sense of faith—faith in me, the divine me, the me that is connected to all that is.

As we go deeper within ourselves, letting go of all perceptions of lack and limitation, we find our selves closer and closer to the collective consciousness that unites us all. There is where our truth lies. It is a place of peace, love and knowing that all is in divine order. So then, perhaps the highest form of faith is in the total acceptance of all that transpires in our lives. Regardless of what is put in front of us, it is of the highest for our particular movement. Our divine, or higher self, wrote this scenario for us to help us let go of any attachment to, or identification with, the limited consciousness of this world. Then we become truly free and at peace with ourselves.

Faith on this level brings intense levels of joy, peace and love for ourselves and all of creation, for we know all is in divine perfec-tion.

Take a moment and reflect on these questions: What does “suc-cess” mean to you? What is it? What does it look like in your life? Be aware as you listen to yourself talk (in your head or out loud) of who is answering the question. Is it really YOUR answer? Or is it someone else’s—a mom’s, a dad’s, a boss’? Now take another moment to notice how the answers make you feel about success. What emotions come up for you when you see success? We all have our own personal definitions and visions of success. Of course, it’s all good and perfect. In this short reflec-tion exercise, some of you may have resisted the feeling side of your responses and relied totally on your logi-cal/analytical side. That’s okay, too, although you may be missing the chance to empower yourself at a whole new level, by using your emotional intelligence (or EQ for short).

Emotional intelligence is the ability to produce amazing results from your relation-ship with yourself and others by understanding your emotions.

We see examples of EQ every day. For example, my six-year old daughter came home from school all excited and jumpy. She wanted to go to the Princess website and print out some cutouts for all her friends in class. Naturally, I agreed that was a great idea and thought we were done. Then she went from excited to sad as she continued to say, “But there are some boys in class and I feel sad if I don’t have something for them, too. That would be rude of me.” My daughter was able to identify and name the feeling she was having while she wrestled with figuring out how to manage and react to it. That’s using emotional data to make wise choices. Yes, it can start that early in life. Of course, we practice EQ a lot at home.

Meeting someone with high EQ is often overlooked because the skill sets are so subtle and easily missed. On the other hand, it is very obvious when you meet others who are low in EQ because they are rusty in areas like optimism and empathy.

The Six Seconds model for EQ has three major parts: Know Your-self, Choose Yourself, and Give Yourself. Since EQ is a set of life skills and behaviors we learn, all it takes is an open mind and will-ingness to practice. Where do we begin? The beginning of the EQ journey is different for everyone, and based on the results of an EQ assessment. However, a good place for anyone to start is by relat-ing and connecting with self: that’s YOU, the YOU that is often neglected (always last on the To Do list) and wants to be heard, validated and nurtured, the YOU that is fatigued from the hustle and bustle of our extremely information-overloaded, multi-task-ing, and need-it-now world.

Success begins with KNOWING and NURTURING YOURSELF. Knowing and understanding who you are as a hu-man being (not just what you do in your business or career), what triggers you to action, no action, or reaction, and exploring the limiting beliefs about yourself, others and life that often get in the way of relating and connecting. It isn’t difficult. The key is to put yourself on the priority list. Here’s how to practice suc-cess in knowing yourself.

Sit: Schedule at least five minutes per day to just sit in silence. I recommend the morning to start your day the optimistic way! Just sit with yourself. No TV, radio, music or people. Even when you’ve got a busy schedule and are just itching to get out the door, you can sit in your car before turning on the ignition. It may seem awkward at first. Just go with the flow, and be pres-ent to yourself.

Uncover: As you enjoy your own company, ask yourself (just like you would a friend), “How are you feeling today, ______(say your name)?” Resist the temptation to say, “I’m okay/fine/tired, or still sleepy.” Really uncover and reveal the true feeling you are having in the moment, such as happy, sad, afraid, or anxious. Don’t do anything with it. Just uncover it.

Choose: Now decide if those feelings you’ve uncovered will help or hinder you from doing what you truly want to accomplish. You have the power to choose how you want to feel and react throughout the day. Commit: Genuinely promise to stay in touch with yourself on a daily basis. Do what you say you will do for yourself. Keep your own word. Be your own best friend. It’s easier to keep a promise to someone else, but you are just as important.

Express: Express yourself! Show, speak, talk and don’t stop ex-pressing what you are most passionate about—your kids, family, a cause, or your pets. When your Inner Light goes on, it is at-tractive, appealing, and it feels good, too.

Salute: Why wait for others to do it for you?! Acknowledge yourself. Tell a friend or family member what you did well or what you are most proud of and be happy for a reason, or no reason.

Savor: Make time to enjoy and pamper yourself! Schedule some down time or me-time, even for just five minutes. It will make a world of difference for you and everyone you interact with on a daily basis.

Enjoy your new relationship with YOURSELF!

“What’s wrong with striving for mate-rial comforts and affluence, like a big house, a boat, or the car of my dreams?” This question was posed towards the close of a personal t r a n s f o r m a t i o n seminar. “Why would you endeavor for such

things?” I responded. The ensuing conversation revealed that amenities such as those mentioned, as well as other tangible attainments such as a position in an organization, fashion-able clothes, and a healthy bank account, were commonly sought to achieve experiences such as security, power, self-confidence and a sense of personal value. I commented that this sounds like a weak position. The es-sential message is, “I am not intrinsically a secure, confident, valuable person. To experience strength, worthiness and spe-cialness I need various external trimmings.” This conscious-ness indicates lack of essential faith in oneself. Genuine faith in self is apparent in a life view that starts with being rather than having. This approach to existence knows that to experience fulfillment, contentment, joy and vitality, I don’t need to do or have anything. I am inherently fulfilled, content, joyful and vital. It’s not that there isn’t activity, accomplishment and acquisi-tion in the be-do-have paradigm. In fact, when living from being, my doing and having are imbued with potency, be-cause they flow organically from my being. They are not separate endeavors, contrivances to obtain from the outside what already exists inside. Naturally, if I am being the vi-brant, trusting and confident person that I am, I will do what vibrant, trusting and confident people do, and have what they have, such as a life of adventure, satisfying rela-tionships, and abundance. In be-do-have, we live the truth that wealth is not about having more; it is about needing less. We choose security and happiness; we don’t chase secu-rity and happiness.

Reflection on our approach to life, for example, have-do-be, or be-do-have, points to where our faith lies—in our spiri-tual essence, or in external objects and symbols. From a place of being we might acquire such objects or symbols, from choice and inspiration, not from need and fear. Faith is inescapable. Our nature is to have faith, and how we live reflects where we place our faith. When we turn the ignition, we display faith that there is not a bomb wired to the car. Each element of our lifestyle, such as diet, recreation, financial management, spiritual practice or lack of it, shows our faith, and what we believe will provide us a life of fulfill-ment and happiness. Our choice is where to place our faith, and we can consider this question with respect to inner being or external having. In the Bhagavad-gita, Krsna exhorts Arjuna to “Be trans-cendental…be without anxiety…and be established in the self,” indicating that for a contented and fulfilled life, living from our transcendent spiritual core is the most reasonable choice. Epictetus said, “The essence of philosophy is that a man should so live that his happiness shall depend as little as possible on external things.” Such teachings move us to live from being, trusting that the externals will come my way; and even if that doesn’t happen according to my plan, I’ll be okay, and more than okay, because my security and value is a function only of what can never be destroyed. That is a worthy place for faith.

T his article is written with much emotion after attending an Adoptive Parent Support Group held by Family Services of

Metro Orlando last night. I am shamefully reminded of faith—what it is and how little of it I have been allowing in my life.

There are a few areas where I sincerely trust that a greater wisdom guides my family and myself, yet I am struggling in other areas.

We have recently transitioned from homeschooling to unschooling (also a form of homeschool-ing, but where the child takes the pri-mary responsibility instead of a parent or teacher); I trust that my child’s natural curiosity for life will lead him to educa-tional brilliance.

In my healing/Reiki practice, I rarely pre-pare prior to classes, as I know I will be guid-ed by a power greater than myself. Time spent with students is electric with energy and truth, and yet I have been faithless in other areas.

I have been seeing how my deep fear of death (a fear I believe we all share), and re-jection by God has led me to attempt to control others around

We lack faith. We seem to all believe that through God all things are possible, and yet do not have the faith that this will be a reality in our own lives.

In closing, I release my fear of not being a loving enough mother, and so inspire my children to rise above their own fears. I claim my faith that God is talking to me, always.Send me a message: Relieve yourself of the burden of your faithlessness in just one area of your life and I will respond with one more area in which I will release one more false God of fear to you. me. I have been trying to teach the “right way” instead of show-ing others that they are the right way.

When I sit and meditate on this, as I am now, I see how I am touching upon my fear that I

am just not good enough, so I must change you, so you become good

enough. Perhaps together our little goodness will result in mercy being shown upon me. (Honestly, I do not know where this insanity comes from).

As school has started and many mothers are discuss-ing their children’s educa-tion, I am saddened that we send our perfect angels to school. We are dis-satisfied with the food, social situations, hour long car lines, and the curriculum. Yet I hear again and again the lack of faith that we have in ourselves to rise to the occasion and be able to dis-cern what our chil-dren need. It takes only a little faith to ensure that ev-erything they need will arrive at their feet.

As students from all over the United States contact me

about their desire to become a healer, they

are expressing the belief that they are missing some-

thing, the right book, youth, time, the best teacher for them.

Born in Israel, and mastering the Hebrew language as my first way to communicate verbally, I still wonder about the meaning and strength of the Hebrew words and letters. As a Sabra (native Israeli), you take it for granted that you walk on an ancient and sacred land, that you breathe the same air as your biblical ancestors breathed, and that you speak an amazing, still not totally solved, mystical language.

So here’s a mini lesson in Hebrew: Every word in the Hebrew language—noun, verb or adjective—“grows” from a “root.” A root is made of three or four major let-ters, which will be in the word and all of its variations.

The word “faith” in Hebrew is Emuna . The word “amen” is – the three “root” letters are Alef, Mem, Noon. And the word “practice” is Imun – and comes from the same “root.” Words like credibility or reliability (a-mi-nut), or trust, confidence (ei-mun) are all derived from the same origin.

Since there’s no coincidence (I think and hope), can we assume that in order to have faith, we have to practice? That even if we are born into any faith, we still have to question it? Inside the word “faith”—Emuna, there are two letters that make the word ‘if ’— . What if? The Jewish religion encourages questioning. You can have full faith only if you questioned, researched, in-quired and got your true and correct answer. Only when you found your true answer, then you could and should practice.

Practicing faith is multi-leveled: it’s mental, emo-tional, physical and metaphysical. It is a daily, hourly, sometimes a one second, routine. It is a struggle; it is a great victory. It seems binding, yet it is liberating. It may seem complicated and forced, yet it is the clear-est and simplest “activity.” Or “non-activity.” Some-times by simple passiveness, we accomplish more…

Wiser and more studious people researched faith, and still do. Humbly, I may not add any new dimension or viewpoint, but faith has been a life partner for me, welcoming a new day, believing and accomplishing in my work, struggling yet being grateful, greeting my husband, Dave, with a warm heart, acknowledg-ing a blessed day when I close my eyes at night.

Practicing faith should become a natural routine like breathing. We practice faith even if we do not have a word for it or dedicate a special space for it. Inhale “Emuna.” Exhale “Amen.”

Seek Not to be Perfect, but to be Remarkableby Deborah Orr, Ph.D, R.N.

Seek not to be perfect, but to be remarkable. This was one theme from a presentation I attended recently by Erik Wahl at www.theartofvision.com. Erik Wahl deserves your attention for his powerful messages about creativity and productivity. For the moment, I’d like to address the often unexplored need that many of us feel to be perfect. Perfect in whose eyes? When and how did this standard become internalized, often to the point where we are no longer even aware that it dictates actions, and decisions? Think about it: What (unattainable) standards of perfection are you demanding of yourself? And to the degree that you aren’t perfect, what damage to your self-esteem do you experience?

Here is a small example. A child is valued for her good grades in school by a distant, but loving parent. In order to please her mother, she works hard to bring home excellent grades. This attracts the mother’s notice and the girl feels loved. At the same time, she is anxious about the possibility of bringing home anything less than her previous excellent grades. What happens? The child

stops trying new things, becoming unwilling to expose herself to failure. She narrows her range of experiences only to those where she is already skilled or expects that she will be successful.

She develops an unconscious belief that she is only worth loving when she is perfect. As a child, this means that she must bring home excellent grades, with a child’s misperception of “or else.” As an adult, this means that her self-esteem is dependent on her proximity to perfection. She has made this standard her own, long after her mother is no longer a central figure in her life, and all of this is outside of her awareness.

What does this have to do with us? Once a need to be perfect has been brought into our awareness, then we have the opportunity to examine it and let it go. We can look at the choices we have made, and recognize what opportunities we have missed in the past by only getting involved when we expected success. We can stop berating

ourselves for accomplishments that fell short of perfection. What paths did we leave unexplored, and are

they still beckoning? How much perfor-

mance anxiety did we endure, instead of feel-

ing curiosity, delight, awe? From whom did we accept

the standard that we must be perfect (mistakenly or not)? Is

that situation or relationship still operative?

As adults now, and aware that this self expectation of perfection is a residue from some earlier situation or relationship, we have choices. We can decide that being perfect is not our goal. We can let go of this self-limiting belief any time we choose. Instead, we can strive to be remarkable in all the fullness of life experience that this offers.

Take the time to wonder about your unexamined beliefs and how they dictate your life’s choices. There is amazing freedom in letting go of limiting beliefs and then choosing the life path that is uniquely yours. This process will take sincere effort and may bring some un-comfortable realizations to the fore. The reward is the freedom to develop fully as the remarkable human being you were intended to be. Make today the first day of the rest of your life.

If you are questioning your faith right now, you are not alone. If fact, if you are not questioning, you should be. Faith is based on beliefs, and everything we believe in is being challenged. As painful as it may be, the challenges are necessary, and no matter how tough your life may seem right now, the challenges will pass. If you have faith in anything, have faith in this: We are standing at the door of a new age, different than any other.

Science has proven that we are at the end of a 26,000 year cycle, and since it is a cycle, we are also at the beginning. We are expe-riencing what some religions call the apocalypse. Yes that’s right, the dreaded apocalypse is upon us right now, but it is not the scary event that the majority of the churches have tried to shove down our throats. Re-member that fear is a con-troller, and we must face our fears in order to see the truth. Apocalypse is a Greek word meaning “uncovering, dis-covery and revealing.” I don’t see the words “Antichrist” or “end of the world” hidden in this meaning. So, if your faith is based around a belief that this is the end of life as we know it, you are right. But you must relinquish your thoughts of the outcome and look deeper by asking yourself these questions: What are we uncovering, and what will we discover?

When we apply these ques-tions to any of our beliefs we will reveal (remove the veil) the truth, and the truth we will discover is what man is,

and what man can be. This is a powerful thing to discover, and is dreaded by the government, churches and a majority of big busi-nesses. Why? Because as long as we stay in the dark, blanketed by fear, we are at their mercy, and as long as we are at their mercy, they hold the reins and can lead us anywhere they want. The sad part is, we are being led down a path that is based on lies, deceit and control, and we are willing to go there because we refuse to let go of our old, worn out beliefs and control our own lives. Why do we do this? Because it is much easier to place blame than it is to be responsible.

We must take responsibility for what we are, and what we want to experience in this life. Do we want to be controlled like sheep, or do we want to stand in our power and be the powerful new leaders? Do we want a future based on fear and greed, or do we want a future based on higher con-sciousness? We must grow up, pull our heads out of the sand and discover, uncover and reveal the truth of who we really are. This is where faith will stand in truth. And when we have faith standing on the foundation of truth, we have freedom.

In 1960, scientific tests at high al-titudes in the Himalayas conclud-ed that it would be impossible to climb Mount Everest without bot-tled oxygen. It was believed that death or permanent brain damage would result from climbing to an altitude five and a half miles high, where the oxygen is one-third that of sea level. Yet in 1978, Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler reached the peak of Everest without artifi-cial oxygen and returned safely. Their faith trumped the scientific tests.

Human beings have two mentali-ties: the logical, digital, scientific, left brain and the analogical, intui-tive, holistic right brain. Both are essential to successful functioning. Skepticism tends to be a left brain attitude, while faith is more an aspect of the right brain. Real breakthroughs take place when both brain hemispheres work in harmony.

In 1865, the chemist August Kekulé achieved an insight into the nature of the benzene ring, a closed chain of atoms. He was doz-ing before the fire and imagined seeing rings of atoms moving like snakes. One snake formed a circle and seized its own tail in its mouth, giving him the metaphorical understanding he was seeking. This image of a snake with its tail in its mouth is the Ouroboros, an occult symbol of renewal, immortality and whole-ness.

Faith overcomes doubt and skepticism and empowers us to take the actions that bring suc-cess. We need to cultivate faith in order to attain our goals. Faith leads to the numinous—the ex-perience of fascination, mystery, wonderment and tremendous-ness that motivates our sense of adventure, creative endeav-ors and spiritual quest. Count-less examples of successful faith healing prove that it can achieve mind over matter.

Fortunately, there are simple techniques for building faith. Hypnotic trance enables us to return to memories of times of flow, the zone, peak states—moments of empowerment when we combined faith and action. If we have experienced such states before, we can re-cover them.

Play some music you find inspiring or associate with faith. Enter a relaxed state through deep, even, slow breathing. Imagine looking at a scrapbook containing pho-tos and souvenirs of that time. Notice your expression, the position of your body, your surroundings, and what you are seeing and doing. Imagine

stepping inside that body and let the experience of that moment flow through you. Notice the difference. Now imagine seeing, hearing and feeling the application of this state to the goal you desire. What is it like to have faith in your success? Then return to the present and take the necessary action.

Divination, too, can be a way of accessing faith. People usu-ally attend a psychic reading because they are at a crossroads. They are uncertain, at a conscious level, which pathway to take. Tarot cards, runes, palmistry and astrology can be understood

as means of accessing the sitter’s unconscious re-sources. The unconscious mind (not necessarily lim-ited to the individual’s) can work through these meth-ods to provide the sense of faith that enables the sitter to stride boldly down the right path to success.

The following excerpt is taken from the book, “Defy Gravity,” by Caroline Myss. It is published by Hay House (October 2009) and available at all bookstores or online at: www.hayhouse.com.

LIFE WITHOUT GRAVITYEvery day we will slip in our efforts to live a congruent, conscious life. So what? Get up, try again, slip some more. Imagine life without being controlled by the illusions of fear—fear of not having enough, fear of re-jection, and fear of failure. Imagine your fears as having less influence over you. A completely fearless life may be unrealistic, but a life in which you keep your fears at a distance is an achievable goal.

Mystics did not set about learning the nature of God or the higher mystical laws so that they could literally defy gravity—that is, so that they could levitate while they meditated, heal others spontaneously and at a dis-tance, bilocate, or develop telepathic abilities. The mystical approach to life is not to see life from without, but to perceive it from within, to sense your energetic field before you allow your body to move into action. Learn to utilize all of your spiritual senses as naturally as you breathe, and always within the consciousness that you are living in a field of grace.

WORTHY OF REFLECTIONSeek the truth in all aspects of your life. Ask the constant question “What is the truth in this situation?” Search for wisdom, for understanding, for insight at every opportunity.

Learn to endure. Remember that no plan unfolds in an afternoon. Have no expectations of anything. Let ev-erything be a surprise.

Give up the need to know why things happen as they do. How do you know what success or failure is? Everything is just experience. Reflect on whether

experience empowers or disem-powers you—that is all. Does each experience make you more aware, more honest, more grateful, kinder, more generous, more compassion-ate? That’s where you should focus your attention.

Act on your guidance without con-stantly saying that you’re fright-ened and require proof that you will be safe. You will never get that proof. Every choice in life is an act of faith. Stop letting fear be the one constant voice you listen to with unremitting faith. Be outrageously bold in your be-lief that you will be guided but do not have expecta-tions of how that guidance will unfold. Keep your attention in present time—always in present time.

These are times of change, and among the most crucial changes is the need for people who would not ordinarily seek mystical teach-ings to turn to them now with a soul-felt passion. We are past the point when just reading about healing and human consciousness is of any value. All sojourners must awaken and cease the search for who they are in this world. What answer do you need other than “I am a soul in search of truth?”

Your soul knows it can defy gravity. And you know that you can learn the mystical laws. The question is whether you can transcend the boundaries of ordinary reason: that is the great challenge in this human life that binds us all.

Cold SoulsIt feels so good to have a movie to write about again. For those of you who have followed this column for the last seven years, please know that, as long as films like “Cold Souls” are released, I will continue this column, even though it will be on an irregular basis.

Now, to the film.

Cold Souls is a jaw-dropping, original film, with the only possible comparison being to “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” one of my favorite films in Spiritual Cinema.

In Cold Souls, the gifted actor Paul Giamatti plays himself as an actor who is having an impossible time connecting to the charac-ter Uncle Vanya that he is about to portray on stage. He feels so incapable of connecting to the seemingly soulless character that he must portray that, in desperation, he visits a clinic where souls are extracted and placed in storage.

Even though he is skeptical about removing his soul, he agrees to the process because he is promised that his constant inner turmoil will be relieved once his soul is extracted. The soul extraction itself is painless and quick. While he refuses the option of look-ing into his soul to see its essence, he is persuaded to see what it looks like after the extraction. Whereas other souls he is shown have the appearance of large fruit, it turns out his soul looks like a chickpea!

Yes, much of the first two thirds of the film is extremely humor-ous as Giamatti explores the soul extraction, then has to live with-out a soul, then chooses to try out another soul as a temporary replacement.

Ultimately, he realizes how empty he feels. He then begs to have his own soul re-implanted only to discover that it has been pirat-ed and sold on the black market to the wife of a Russian soul-traf-ficker who yearns to be an actress and wants the soul of a famous American actor. She has been told that Giamatti’s soul is actually the soul of Al Pacino and is utterly delighted.

The last act of the film takes on a much more serious tone as Gia-matti travels to Russia to reclaim his soul with the human “mule” who has been trafficking souls back and forth. The woman whose soul he temporarily borrowed was also in Russia. His desire to find her leads the film in a tragic direction here as well. Not to worry, the film does end well.

“Original” is way too weak a word for Cold Souls. The constantly inventive screenplay by writer/director Sophie Barthelme im-merses us so completely in the concept of the film that we are ab-

solutely swept along in its audacity, humor, drama, and pathos.

From a spiritual standpoint, the film is breathtaking as it delves into our personal relationship with our own soul. The film is very careful, and brilliant, to say very early on that the soul-ex-tractors have no real idea what the soul is and does. They just know how to extract it. This conceit is cru-cial because it gives us in the audience the opportunity to de-cide for ourselves the importance and func-tions of our soul.

Paul Giamatti (“Side-ways,” “John Adams”) is one of my very favorite actors and it is hard to imagine anyone else playing this role. His restless unhappiness, skepti-cism, hope, humor, and empathy as he evolves through the film capture us and hold us in his thrall. What would it really be like to have to live without a soul? Or a borrowed soul? What does our soul really mean to us? All these questions and emo-tions play out in Giamatti’s face and body throughout the film.

Films that ask but don’t answer the big questions about who we are and why we are here are indeed the “soul” of Spiritual Cinema. Cold Souls will provoke those questions for you, your friends, and your loved ones. What a great gift that is to those of us who have been starved for this kind of spiritual film for such a long time.

Let the discussions begin.

Imagine yourself floating on calm sea of tran-quility as this deeply soothing music carries you to a space of sublime relaxation.

Evenson is known for his popular brand of heal-ing music using silver, alto and wooden flutes. Barabas draws from European classical, Ameri-can jazz and Latin American roots to create a sound all his own. Twigg is a classically trained oboist who brings her English charm to this mu-sical gathering. For healing practitioners or for those desiring incredibly peaceful ambient mu-sic, Healing Suite will please.

In There’s More to Life Than the Corner Of-fice: The Secret to Total Life Prosperity, author Lamar Smith explores the relationship between a young, driven, narcissistic investment banker and a down-to-earth, successful older CEO who meet by a fortunate twist of fate. This touching story is about a young man whose life is out of control. His career entirely consumes him as he focuses solely on acquiring the brass ring, losing sight of what’s truly important to the point that he is separated from the woman he loves and on the brink of divorce. Initially dismissed by the young man as old and past his prime, the CEO takes him under his wing and shares the hard life lessons that he himself learned on the road to success.

Smith wrote the parable based on his own life, mirroring his expe-rience and observations as he grew from young military officer in Vietnam to a seasoned CEO of an international financial services company.

Something Beyond Greatness: Conversation with a Man of Science and a Woman of God is the result of a worldwide search to understand the inner workings of altruism. Written by Judy Rodgers and Gayatri Naraine, their search uncovered that the quality of “something be-yond greatness,” which is most often attributed to such luminaries as Mother Teresa, Gandhi and Martin Luther King, occurs naturally in the flow of life, on city streets, and in living rooms when people see others with love and act from their hearts. They noticed, too, that

it vanishes when we are thinking, planning or trying too hard to make things happen.

Something Beyond Greatness is a thought provoking discussion of the humble, loving service to others that is at the heart of greatness. For insight into the two sides of the coin, authors Rodgers and Naraine turned to a Woman of God and a Man of Science—Dadi Janki and Humberto Maturana. Through their discussions with Janki, Maturana, and many others, you’ll come to realize that the two sides of the coin lead to one whole ... and that performing a miraculous act of greatness or living a life of greatness is an inspired heartfelt choice one makes in a moment of chaos, in the quiet of one’s mind, or within a balance of these seemingly opposite cir-cumstances.

The enchanting town of Sawyerton Springs does not exist. New York Times best-selling author Andy Andrews has found it in the hearts of those who long to take a deep breath, relax, and take the time to find the humor and meaning in everyday life. In Return to Sawyerton Springs, the sounds, smells, colors and textures of Saw-yerton Springs are within you—an instinctive, almost mystical longing for a simpler time. Here, everyday occurrences are assigned a calm purpose. The town has no lawyers—it doesn’t need any. The local paper comes out weekly and everyone already knows what it says. Email, the Internet, computers, faxes, cell phones, microwaves, cappuccinos, call waiting and caller ID don’t exist here. Return to Sawyerton Springs is a story that reflects upon the seemingly ordinary parts of our everyday lives—and how they are actually extraordinary parts of something much greater.

If you believe like I do that all minds are joined, then the answer to the world’s problems already exists.

It is said that when Aboriginals separate and go on walkabout, there is no predetermined time and place for the tribe to come back together, yet somehow their paths converge and they recon-vene in some unspoken, unplanned way. Could it be that their minds are so uncluttered by cell phones and email communica-tion, billboard ads and television, that they are so free of the en-tanglements of technological advancements, so unencumbered by the fear and anxiety spoon-fed to the rest of the world by the media, that their innate wisdom has a chance to be heard, and guides them in ways their thinking mind never could?

If it is true that we only use 10% of our brains perhaps part of what is left unexamined and unexplored is our own innate inner wisdom. Einstein said, “The problems we face cannot be solved at the level of thinking we were at when we created them.” It’s time to start thinking outside of the box. The answer to the problems we face today is not about fight-ing wars over limited resources, throwing money at a financial system that fell out of balance a long time ago, or shrinking and contracting in fear. What if we, as a species, are simply going through an evolutionary growth spurt and experiencing all of the growing pains that tend to go with that? We all instinctively get that there is power in the mind that has been untapped. Now think back to what we can learn from the Aboriginals. If we knew that all minds are joined and our thoughts would have an impact on the collective, would we choose our thoughts differently?

There is a phenomenon in meditation called the Maharishi Ef-fect which claims that when 1% of a community practices medi-tation (specifically Transcendental Meditation) the crime rate in that community is reduced by an average of 16%. We have been hearing for years about the power of creative visu-alization and most of us already know that what we hold in our minds and back with any kind of emotional intensity tends to be realized. There is at least some comfort in this, as is evidenced by the popularity of books and movies like “The Secret,” “Ask and It is Given,” and “What the Bleep Do We Know?” Even quantum physics states that our minds are shaping our very real-ity. And we’ve all had the experience of thinking about a friend we haven’t spoken to in some time only to have that friend call us out of the blue. Thoughts are energy and they travel faster than the speed of light. And just like we call into our experience a ra-dio show by dialing into a particular channel frequency, we tune into a life experience by choosing into a particular frequency of thought. I am convinced one of the lessons that we are all learning is that it’s time to let go of the competitive “us versus them” men-tality, and begin to realize that we are all in this together. Every thought we think, every action we take, has an affect not only on the people around us, but on the world as a whole. We all know that what goes up must come down; for every action there is a reaction; for every cause, there is an effect. This is universal law. This is Karma. Perhaps now one of the most powerful ways we can participate in the healing of the planet is to recognize that we are all part of the Universal One Mind. The more we focus on peace, the more we help our fellow man and ourselves. The Universal One Mind is affected by the thoughts we choose. If you want to save the world, choose your thoughts carefully and intentionally. If enough of us hold thoughts of peace we will eventually reach a critical mass, and once that tipping point is reached, perhaps the momentum will pull us all forward. Try this on for size for one week and see what happens: Go on a media fast. Stop exposing yourself to every fear-based, anxiety-producing movement of the world. Enough already. Turn off the news, go for a walk, join in a yoga class, read some-thing inspiring.

TRANSFORMATIONAL LIFE COACH CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPIST

GAINESVILLE, FL * WWW.LACEYNAGY.COM

For months, I was feeling exhausted with life and uninspired by everything I was doing. Finally, when I gave myself permission to stop all projects and do nothing, I gained peace of mind and clarity.

Spirit came in and reminded me of a goal I’ve always had, but was afraid I wasn’t ready to manifest.

With the help and encouragement of my life coach, I pulled that “some-day vision” o the shelf, dusted it o , and took action. I called my project Women, Vision & Prosperity.

This became a ten week workshop series for women to bring their visions into reality. I have known too many women with extra-ordinary ideas, but riddled with doubt, they take little to no action, and their dreams never come to fruition. This is why Spirit led me to do this work.

I decided to play big and write out my plan of action, but the moment I did, limiting beliefs stung me like a swarm of hornets! I was ooded with limiting thoughts:

You’re not ready. You need more information, healing, and transformation. You need to plan this as a three year goal.Someone else can do it better.

The hornets sounded so convincing! Still, I continued writing my plan of action. I was grateful to have a life coach who would help me challenge my limiting perceptions, create a practical action plan, and hold me accountable to my commitments.

The course was full before my yers were even printed! I didn’t wait to have everything perfectly in order to invite women to partake in this adventure: I put myself out there with enthusiasm and trusted that Spirit would help me with the rest.

Now I am the one who is encouraging others to play big! Ten women’s dreams are manifesting into reality right now as you read. They are creating break-throughs so quickly, that many of them are expanding their visions and playing even bigger.

And to think that just a short while ago, I was procrastinating on this vision because of my own limiting beliefs. For me, to live in fear is sel sh. To play small deprives the rest of the world of great possibilities. Everyone wins when we all play big.

Here is a goal protocol to bring dreams into fruition:

1. Hire a Life Coach to assist you.2. Focus on your goal and believe in yourself. 3. Write it down and read it out loud twice a day.4. Write down 100 reasons why you want your goal.5. Write down where you are starting o from.6. Set a deadline.7. Write down any obstacles you’ll have to overcome.8. Find people who can help you achieve your goal.9. Make a plan of action.10. Perform action steps everyday until you achieve your goal.
