4. Qualifications: All the following conditions must be met.
1) The applicant and both of his or her parents must be foreign nationals. ※ A naturalized citizen of a foreign country qualifies as an international student if both the applicant and his or her parents had acquired the citizenship before the applicant began a high school curriculum equivalent to the high school curriculum of Korea. ※ Dual nationality is NOT honored. ※ In case an applicant’s parents are divorced, a document must be submitted that reflects the divorce and custody issues. Only legal parental rights (or custody) count in the evaluation of parents’ nationality.

New admissionsForeign nationals qualify who have completed all the curricula ofelementary and secondary schools (middle school and high school)or their equivalents, in Korea or overseas.
Transfer admissions
to Sophomore
Foreign nationals qualify who have completed all the curricula ofelementary and secondary schools (middle school and high school)or their equivalents, in Korea or overseas, AND who have completedat least one academic year of university education (and, 33 credit-hours or more), in Korea or overseas.
to Junior
Foreign nationals qualify who have completed all the curricula ofelementary and secondary schools (middle school and high school)or their equivalents, in Korea or overseas, AND who have completedat least two academic years of university education (and, 66 credit-hours or more), in Korea or overseas.
* Students are not eligible to apply for transfer who have attended private colleges or universities that are not authorized by educational authorities or whose diplomas do not bear degree numbers. In these cases, admissions will be canceled even after they are admitted and enrolled.
* In the case of two-year (or three-year) colleges, only those who have acquired a college degree can apply for transfer. Prospective graduates are also eligible.
* Graduates from schools that are officially regulated by educational authorities of the applicant’s government are only eligible to apply. In other words, graduates from home-schools, life-long education programs, continuing education programs, senior-citizen education programs, or Internet-based education programs are NOT eligible.
* Students with certificates of the qualifying exam for high school diploma in Korea or other overseas qualifying exams (such as GED of the United States and Canada and Self-Taught Higher Education Examinations of China) are not eligible to apply for transfer.
* Students who are from such countries as Japan and the Philippines, where a new academic year starts one month later, may be given one-month break in the estimation of duration of education.

3) Language proficiency: The following conditions must be met.
Departments and Schools Minimum qualifications

* At least one condition must be met among the following: a. TOPIK Grade 3 or better
b. Completed the level 3 Korean course or a higher course at Soongsil International Education Institute
c. Completed the level 4 course or a higher course at a Korean language institute affiliated with a four-year Korean university in which there are 6 different proficiency levels (level 1 through level 6). A similar proficiency level obtained from a Korean language institute affiliated with a two- or three-year college does not qualify. (In case the Korean language institute does not have a 6 proficiency level system, the applicant must submit additional document(s) that indicates he or she completed an equivalent course, in which case the University will decide the eligibility.)
d. Passed Soongsil Korean proficiency test (60 points or better out of 100 points) * Important Message 1) Soongsil Korean proficiency test for the Fall 2020 applicants will be administered only for the Second application schedule (2nd Round). 2) Depending upon the severity of COVID-19, the Korean Proficiency test for the Second application schedule may not be administered, in which case the cancellation will be posted before the scheduled date on the Admissions Home Page. (Please see page 17 for the details.) 3) Soongsil Korean proficiency test for the Fall 2020 is recommended only for the international applicants who are already in Korea. The University will not be held responsible for any problems that might arise due to noncompliance of this guideline.
Film Arts * TOPIK Grade 4 or better
* All admitted students must acquire TOPIK Grade 4 or better in order to graduate from Soongsil University.
* All admitted students must take a course or a set of courses specially designed for them, such as Korean for Academic Purposes. (Details will be announced during the orientation.)

5. Evaluation procedures:
▶ All departments and majors except for Film Arts: The evaluation is exclusively based on all the documents submitted by the applicant, including a personal statement (or a letter of self-introduction) and a language proficiency score(s). ▶ Film Arts: The evaluation consists of 40% of document appraisal, including a personal statement, and 60% of interview test. Details on the interview test will be notified at iphak.ssu.ac.kr * Details related to evaluation procedures will not be made public. * Should submitted documents turn out to be false or incomplete, then the applicant will be excluded from the evaluation process.

▶ Should you not be able to submit the additional document(s) (Apostille, academic certificate
by Chinese Ministry of Education, certificate by a Korean consulate, bank statement with the
balance information) within the designated date, you must submit them by Jul. 31, 2020.
A failure to do so would result in cancellation of admission.
▶ In the case that the applicant is currently enrolled at Soongsil International Education Institute,
if he or she intends to enter a University degree program without a break, a minimum balance
of $10,000 will suffice regardless whether the application is for New admissions or for Transfer
admissions.
▶ TOPIK scores must be submitted by the application deadline. A TOPIK score for the 69th test
cannot be used for the scholarship process if you apply for the First admissions schedule.
Test scores issued within the last 2 years are valid as of the submission deadline.
▶ If the applicant has been naturalized to a foreign country, official documents should be
submitted that show the exact date(s) of naturalization of the applicant and the parents.
Especially if the applicant and the parents were former Korean nationals, the documents
must also be submitted that show that both the applicant and the parents abandoned the
Korean nationality.
▶ When making the online application, the application fee of KRW 100,000 must be paid in full.
The fee and the submitted documents will not be returned.
▶ Modification of the application form is not possible once the application fee has been paid.
▶ In principle, original documents should be submitted. However, in the cases of language
proficiency test certificate, certificate of scheduled graduation, and transcript issued before
graduation, their copies are also acceptable. In these cases, the applicant should bring
original documents to prove their authenticity.

7. Remarks on document preparation a. All the documents must be submitted in full by the designated time. b. If there is a problem with the data provided, submitted documents turn out to be false or incomplete, or the emergency contact person provided cannot be reached in an emergency situation, then the applicant may be excluded from the assessment process, in which case the applicant is solely responsible for the disadvantage. c. Should there be a mismatch between names on different documents, the applicant must submit verification documents issued by his or her government. d. Language proficiency test certificates should be issued within the last two years, as of the first day of the submission schedule. e. Documents in languages other than Korean or English must be notary-certified in Korean or in English. The certificates must be the ones that have been issued within the last six months, as of the last day of the submission schedule. f. After the names of students to be admitted are announced, the University will begin the authentication process based on Agreement on Verification completed by the students. In case there is no reply from the student's former school within two months after the start of class, the student is supposed to arrange the authentication process. Should there be no reply from the school after all, the admission may be canceled even after the start of class. g. The students who have applied as prospective students must submit a certificate of graduation and transcripts of academic records reflecting the last semester within the designated time, a failure of which may result in cancelation of admission. h. 11. Special notes 1. No double application It is not permitted to be registered for two different universities, including two-year colleges, at the same time.
2. Important remarks a. Documents must be submitted in full within the designated time. Applications with missing information or document(s) will be excluded from assessment and thus disqualified. The University does not receive supplementary documents for an incomplete
application. As for the photo on the online application form, it must be a portrait type and you are not allowed to wear sunglasses or a cap or hat for the photo. Violation of this requirement may result in disqualification. b. Applicants are solely responsible for problems or disadvantage resulting from incomplete, false, or missing information on the application form. c. Admissions may be canceled if it is found that applicants have not met the admission qualifications, documents are false or forged, or there were other illegal activities, even after they have been officially admitted to the University. d. Once the online application is completed with payment of the application fee, there will be absolutely no change or cancellation of the application, nor is refund possible. e. You must provide an email address and a phone number so that the University may be able to contact you in an emergency situation. Should there be any problems or disadvantage resulting from failing to provide them, the University would not be held responsible for that. (Please do not use admission agency's or language institute's phone numbers.) f. 3. Health insurance Information All international students are required to have health insurance during the study period.
The insurance charge will be included in the tuition bill of the first semester.
※ Test fee refund policy due to Corona Virus-19 □ Application fee or test fee is, in principle, not refundable once it is paid off. Due to the pandemic of Corona Virus-19, however, this policy is temporarily suspended.
