BBA Overview The BBA program is a full-time only program. Students are expected to be available from Monday through Friday to attend classes. The BBA program courses are prescribed in the 1st and 2nd year of study in order to give students a solid foundation of business fundamentals before the student begins to specialize in an area of business management during their 3rd and 4th year of study.

First Year Course Enrolment - BBA:

Fall Term: AP/ECON 1000 3.00 SB/MGMT 1000 3.00 SB/ACTG 2010 3.00

Winter Term: AP/ECON 1010 3.00 SB/MGMT 1050 3.00 SB/ACTG 2011 3.00

You must also enrol in the following core courses (choose ONE for the Fall Term and ONE for the Winter Term): SB/MKTG 1030 3.00 SB/MGMT 1040 3.00

Selecting a non-business elective Students will also choose and enrol in non-business electives. Students must complete 6.00 credits of non-business electives in Year 1. You may choose to enrol into ONE full-year (Y) course or TWO half-year courses (one Fall and one Winter). How to choose a non-business elective We always recommend that you choose non-business electives that are of interest to you so that you are motivated to succeed. Non-business courses provide you with knowledge and skills to make you a well-rounded student. Choose courses that add value to your Schulich degree. Non-business electives at the 1000 or 2000 level normally do not have a prerequisite. Prerequisites are listed at the bottom of the course description. 1000 or 2000 level courses are introductory courses, and are suitable for first year students. To enrol in a language course as a non-business elective, see “Choosing a language course” on page 5 of this guide.

Keep in Mind

1. Students are required to complete a minimum of 24.00 credits (12.00 credits/term) during the Fall/Winter academic session. 30.00 credits is

recommended.

2. Check the Prohibited Courses List to ensure you are not enrolled in courses that cannot count towards your degree.

3. Where two choices are indicated, students decide which term they wish to take each course. (e.g. - SB/MGMT 1040 3.00 in Fall and SB/MKTG 1030 3.00

in Winter; or vice versa).

4. To enrol in a language course, students require permission from the French and/or Languages department. Most language courses are 6.00 credits and

run across the Fall/Winter session.

Enrolment and Registration – Frequently Asked Questions Helpful Enrolment Tips

You should be available for classes Monday to Friday. Do not schedule more than two classes on the same day. Some courses have both a lecture and tutorial/lab. Do not forget to include both when mapping out your

timetable. You should be careful to ensure that your selected courses do not conflict (e.g. do not enrol yourself to be in two

places at the same time). Please note that midterms are regularly scheduled during class time. If your schedule has two or more classes on

the same day, you may have two or more midterms on the same day. Open up two browsers on your desktop so that you can switch between the York Registration Enrolment

Module and the Course Offerings website.

1. I am having trouble setting up my Passport York Account. Who can I contact for assistance? If you are receiving errors setting up your Passport York, you will need to contact York’s IT support. You may contact them by phone at: (416) 736-5800. Be ready to provide them with your York student number. Your Passport York Account can also be reset by sending an e-mail to [email protected] with the following details: your student number, your full name, your date of birth, your home mailing address, and postal code listed on your school record. 2. In my timetable, there are days where I have back-to-back classes. For example, one class ends at 2:30pm and the other one starts at 2:30pm. Will I arrive to my class on time or should I restructure my timetable? Yes, you can have back-to-back classes. While both classes seem to end and start at the same time, your instructor normally dismisses you at least 10 minutes before the end of class to allow time to get to your next class. It is recommended, however, that you do not schedule two three-hour classes immediately after one another. We recommend that you plan breaks in between your classes. 3. For MGMT 1000, the tutorials are all at the same time. How do I know which one I registered for? Although each tutorial is at the same time, each tutorial is assigned a different catalogue number and different room number. Check your timetable carefully in order to determine which classroom your tutorial will be held in. 4. Do I need to pay a deposit to hold my seat in my courses? How much? What is the deadline? Yes, you are required to pay a registration deposit at the beginning of the Fall/Winter session. The fee is $300, and it is not an additional charge on top of your tuition. For more information, please read the Registration Deposit section in this guide on page 19. 5. How many hours per week should I be attending classes? Each class is approximately 3 hours per week, for a total of 180 minutes. Some classes (e.g: language courses) may operate for 4 hours per week, for a total of 240 minutes. Other classes (e.g: SB/ACTG 2010 3.00) may have an additional component such as a lab for an additional 90 minutes. 6. Can I take my non-business elective course in the Summer term? Yes, you can postpone your non-business elective to the Summer 2017 session, or work ahead on your regionally-focused course (iBBA), provided that you are enrolled in a minimum of 24.00 credit hours (12.00 credit hours per term) during the Fall/Winter session. 7. I did AP or IB courses in Grade 12. Do I need to enrol for a non-business elective? Yes, you need to enroll for a non-business elective for now. If you completed courses in the International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP), General Certificate of Education (GCE) or Yeshiva programs, you may be eligible for transfer credits giving you the option of not taking a non-business elective in your first year. You will be emailed with further instructions towards the end of July, and some students may then be able to drop the non-business elective in which they’ve enrolled. Those students will be notified by email.

18

8. I tried to add my non-business elective or language course and the system told me to contact the department. Who do I contact? If you receive this error message, you will need to contact the department that offers this course. To find the contact information for different York departments you can use the York Directory available at: http://mocha.yorku.ca/atlas/servlet/atlas 9. Can I take one of my core courses during the Summer term? Unfortunately, Schulich does not offer any courses during the Summer term. All core courses must be completed in the Fall or Winter session, as prescribed by the curriculum chart. 10. There is no catalogue number beside the lecture. It only gives me a catalogue number for the tutorial. What should I do? When you enrol into a tutorial or lab, you are automatically enrolled into the lecture. You must attend both the lecture and tutorial/lab. 11. When do classes start? Classes begin on September 8, 2016. For a list of important dates, please visit http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/enrol/dates/fw16

Residence

Make the most of your York experience by living in residence! Live on campus, get involved and become part of the vibrant and engaged community. Residence is more than just a place to live. It is the best way to take your academic and personal success to a higher level. At York University, you will be interested in living in one of the seven undergraduate residences located at the Keele Campus. Schulich students tend to be assigned to Calumet residence, however, all residences are available to students. Housing Complex 1 includes Tatham Hall (McLaughlin), Vanier and Winter Residences and is located near York Lanes, the Student Centre and Fine Arts. These residences provide you with the traditional dormitory style, with furnished double and single rooms and access to common lounges and shared washrooms. Housing Complex 2 includes Norman Bethune, Stong, Pond and Calumet Residences and is located near the William Small Centre, Science buildings and athletic facilities. Most of these locations are suite-styled residences which feature ensuite kitchen and washrooms.
