The question arises, “How does one attain wisdom?” o 1 Kings 3:5‐14 o Solomon asked God for “an understanding mind to govern your people that I may discern between good and evil.” Wisdom is the ability to discern between good and evil, and it comes from God alone. Wisdom was important for Solomon because God promised to bless Solomon only if he obeyed God’s commands and walked in uprightness. o 1 Kings 9:3‐9; Proverbs 30:2‐9 o God alone created the heavens and the earth. God alone has come down to earth and ascended into heaven. God alone is the source of all wisdom. As children of God, we want to live right before God and live a life that brings glory to God. Through reading the Bible, we learn how to live right before God. We learn what it means to fear God, and we learn how to keep His commandments. o Ecclesiastes 5:1‐7 o Ecclesiastes 12:13‐14 The Bottom Line: God provides the wisdom we need to fear Him and keep His commands. Questions: In 1 Kings 3, how does God respond to Solomon’s request for wisdom? According to 1 Kings 3, what is wisdom? How do Christians attain wisdom? (1 Corinthians 2:13; James 1:5) How does this section on wisdom lead us to Christ? What do we see in Christ that shows us wisdom from God? PRAY o Read Window On The World, pg. 86‐87 Indonesia o Use Prayer Card SING o Use lyric sheet and mp3 download of “In Christ Alone” o This weeks Family Worship Song is "In Christ Alone." We see in Proverbs that God is the author of all wisdom and that all man's plans and ideas will fail without Christ being at the center of everything. The song "In Christ Alone" was written affirming this truth. It is only in Christ we have hope. He is our corner stone and solid ground. Whatever trials or failures we experience in life only "In Christ Alone" can we find the wisdom necessary to faithfully fear God and keep His commandments. The song's lyrics go all the way through the death, burial, and finally the glorious resurrection of Jesus and closes with us forever standing "In Christ Alone." MEMORIZE o Ecclesiastes 12:13: The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
