#1 – A CONTINUOUS JOB Examine David’s final words to his son

Solomon (1 Kings 2:1-9): He challenged Solomon to act responsibly, He tells Solomon to walk with God, He wants Solomon to hear David’s

commands.

#2 – A LOVING JOB A Father loves a child so much that he will

discipline (Proverbs 13:24) “The father who does not discipline is a father

who is undisciplined himself and disobedient to God’s will.”

David was a father who loved and cared for his son (2 Samuel 19:1-10).

Sexual Temptation (Proverbs 5:15-20) Foolishness (Proverbs 12:15-16) Ill-gotten gain (Proverbs 10:2; 13:11) Verbal abuse (Proverbs 13:2-3; 15:1) Strong drink (Proverbs 20:1) Pride or selfish ambition (Proverbs 16:1-7)

#3B – AN ADMONISHING JOB “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of

wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)

A father will use the Scriptures as a source of admonition (1 Corinthians 10:11).

A father will use spiritual knowledge as a source of admonition (Colossians 3:16).
