Bureau Veritas International Recognition
FSP developed in 2013 as a “verification” program together with Bureau Veritas, Taipei Branch.
2nd half of 2015, verification program was upgraded through intensive efforts by Bureau Veritas HQ in Paris and FCF. 6 months long of auditing process.
Statement of Recognition issued on the 1st of July, 2016. International Recognition for the FSP program demonstrating BVs confidence in the FCFs conformity to the FSP Standard and management system of the FSP.
27
Bureau Veritas International Recognition
To gain and maintain the BV Recognition for the FSP, across the FSP supply chain a minimum of 250 man days (audits) are carried out on an annual basis. Including: FSP Fishing Trips FSP Carrier Transshipment FSP Carrier Discharge (unloading) FSP Electronic Observer records FSP Management System & traceability record verification. *BV to elaborate further the Recognition process
28
Beyond FCF FSP
FCF works closely and being largest supplier to Pacifical’s Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) in Parties to Nauru (PNA) waters.
Our commitment to sustainability: FCF is the largest supplier of PNA MSC tuna recognizing the PNA’s effort to provide MSC certified tuna. FCF and PNA MOU fleet covers 81 purse-seine fishing vessels
29
Recognizing that the next stage for FCF is to explore the potential of certification for a tuna MSC fishery in the WCPO.
Approached by an Alliance of Purse seiner owners and FCF will review possibility of a MSC certification for Alliance in the Q1 of 2017

FAD and « FAD Free » definition
ISSF Definition: FAD-free fishing is defined as fishing conducted during daylight hours at least 1 nautical mile away from any inanimate floating object The daylight provision is important because purse seine vessels only catch free-swimming schools during daylight hours.
.
Some Tuna fishing vessel (pure seiners) use Fish Aggregating Devices, (FAD) to improve tuna fishing efficiency. These floating objects attract fish, but also other marine species, such as sharks ,turtles with significant environmental impacts.
Tuna fishing vessel: Pure seine
FAD creates attraction of small fish + predators like tuna /around

FCF FSP Social Accountability (SA) Program Introduction
FCF follows closely worldwide concern on Human Right and awareness of Social Accountability in the TUNA trade.
During the process of the FSP international recognition program, FCF CEO decided to progress with BUREAU VERITAS (BV) for developing and recognizing on the Social Accountability standards or fair labor practices on Purse seine fishing vessels at the end 2015.
FCF FSP Social Accountability (SA) Program Introduction
Due to lack of the widely accredited International standards for Social Accountability to DEEP SEA fishing vessels, even the respective national labor laws are not specific enough on ensuring the life of crews working on the fishing vessels. FCF works with BV by researching International Labour Organization (ILO) standards as initial approach.
FCF works closely with the associated “FSP purse-seine fleet” operate in Western Central Pacific Ocean (WCPO) to develop the social standards tailored to purse seine vessels.
62
FCF FSP Social Accountability (SA) Program Introduction
Role of FCF: Leading team of FCF SA team and main associated fishing fleet (about 30 purse seiners ), FCF acts as the facilitator between vessels and International social specialists with the AIM to develop a SA program with third party Recognition.
