A Note from your President….

A note from your President

Happy New Year! I hope all had

good holidays. It seems that Janu-

ary has come in with a blast of cold

air and winter weather across the

state. Our thoughts and prayers are with our members

and their families across the state that have had trage-

dies, whether it be storms, flooding or the latest the fires

in the Eastern Region. We are hoping to coordinate with

the Eastern Region to see what kind of assistance if any

that our FCE members need.

I would like to encourage each club, county and re-

gion to increase their membership. Reach out to new

parents, empty nesters or maybe former FCE members

that have left because their lives had become hectic.

This is the time of year when we try to make our plans

for the upcoming year and to put them into action.

Please take a few minutes to look over the reminders of

the due dates such as Heart of FCE, State Projects, Coun-

ty Character Counts and FCL. I encourage everyone to

attend FCL.

Remember to record your CVU hours. These are the

hours that you spend helping or doing for others that

are not your family. Count your time preparing for and

as well as travel spent with the activity and how many

people you reach.

The State projects have three (3) categories, Literacy,

Community Action and Education. the hours spent do-

ing this count for adding $$ value to your county and

the state for the work you do, that they do not have to

pay for.

I would like to thank each and everyone of you for

the things you do for FCE and also to Eileen Horton and

the Eastern Region for the wonderful time I had in

Murfreesboro in November at the 2016 State Confer-

ence.

It has been a wonderful first year as your state presi-

dent and I look forward to cruising on the river on Sun-

day afternoon and evening in Knoxville so be sure to

make plans to be at the State Conference.

Ladies, I have big shoes to fill and Phyllis Narus has done a wonderful job as Vice President for Programs. I know she is excited about her new position at Na-tional. National’s gain and our loss at State. Please be patient with me as I learn my new position. I would like to thank each lady for their TAFCE State Project Form they sent to me. Please remember that it’s very important to report your club and county pro-jects. TAFCE and UT use this information to obtain grants, when asking for company donations, asking for assistance with projects and conference’s. For 2015 there were 13 counties in the Eastern Region that submitted projects, 15 counties from Central Re-gion and 14 counties from Western Region in three work areas: Literacy, Community Action and Educa-tion for a total of 42 counties statewide. There was a total of 231,488 hours volunteered by FCE members. A total of 4,760,055 people reached. Total money spent was $159,379.00. The Federal Government says a volunteer hour in 2015 was worth $23.07. If you multiply this figure by the total hours volunteered, FCE members across Tennessee donated the equivalent of $5,240,428.16. I want to thank every-one for all the hard work and sacrifices you have made to help those in need. ...Sissy Neat

I know that some are busy with their Cultural Arts entries. If you are not working on a Cultural

Arts entry, there has never been a better time to wake up that sleeping artist inside you and showcase your hidden talents. I expect this to be a great year for the Arts and Crafts. I look for-ward to seeing your hidden talents.

Introduction/Purpose 2020 Vision Today we are going to share with

you about a special event coming up in 2020. Can anyone tell me what that event is?

We are not here today to tell you how to celebrate or commemorate this anniversary in you personal life, at t you club or community.

It is our goal to let communities know well enough in advance so they can plan an event worthy of the day!

Eastern Region is anticipating another informative, exciting State Conference to be hosted at the Knoxville Hilton Hotel on November 5-8, 2017. The theme for 2017 is “You Are The KEY to FCE”. The confer-ence committee chaired by Carolyn Thomas, Eastern Re-gion Action Chair, has been working tirelessly to provide an outstanding State Confer-

ence. Some of the plans include a dinner cruise on the Knoxville Princess for Sunday night, November 5th, banquet entertainment by local vocal group “The Three Tenors” who perform with the University of TN Symphony. Entertainment will include piano music during the banquet dinner. The conference committee is also working to provide excellent work-shops and classes. Eastern region counties are being asked to provide quality handmade items for the con-ference giftshop. Workshops will be held around the Eastern Region to make handmade items along with participation by individual clubs to provide items. Eastern Region has chosen to support Knoxville’s “Love Kitchen” as conference charity. Eastern Region hopes everyone will plan to join us for another suc-cessful conference. More information will be included in the next newsletter. Eastern Region will hold its Spring Conference on May 24-26th at the Crossville Clyde York 4-H Center. The theme will be “FCE: I Plan To BEE There” with a focus on increasing membership at county, region and state events. The “City of Hope” children’s charity administered by the Crossville Sheriff’s Department has been chosen to be supported by this year’s Spring Conference. Carolyn Thomas and her camp conference committee are working diligently to make this regional conference another great success. As new Eastern Region President, I am looking for-ward to working with the Eastern Region and State Boards to provide quality programs, conferences and leadership to promote TAFCE with the purpose of increasing membership and participation. I am look-ing forward to a very exciting 2017.

2017. LEADERSHIP-IN-ACTION: “FCE—Reaching Out, Staying Connected” will be the theme for the TAFCE West-

ern Region Leadership-In-Action on January 10, 2017 (snow date Jan. 17th) at the Madison County Extension Office. There will be an FCL training using the Group Process program “Motivating Members, Great Groups, Terrific Teams.” In keeping with the regional focus of communication, there will be time for sharing ideas across county lines during small group sessions, with ideas then presented to the large group. To tie up the 2016 regional focus on VOLUNTEERING, counties may share display boards of their members in CVU action—

CVUing. MINI-CONFERENCE: The date and place for the TAFCE-Western Region Annual Mini-Conference is yet to be determined. I can see the light at the end of the conference

planning tunnel. We are working hard to make sure that your 2017 Con-vention will be the BEST EVER. The food tasting for our

meal was completed on February 23. I am proud to be working with a group of ladies that amaze me with their vim and vigor. See you ladies in Knoxville and plan on having the time of your life. Carolyn Thomas, Conference Chair
