古川町商店街の記憶と人情味を受け継ぐ

不易流行～変わるもの・変わらないもの～

昔ながらの個性豊かな商店が並びます。そして「こんにちは」、「おおきに」と温かみのあるやりとりが日常に繰り返されています。このお客様を大切にする心と変わらない人情味こそが古川町商店街であり、私たちの大切な交流の場です。時代の流れがさらに進み、環境が大きく変わろうとしている今、真に求められているのはヒューマン・ウェア、すなわち人間の能力なのではありませんか。新しい時代を切り拓くために、私達は何を為すべきでしょうか。

古川町商店街は、昭和 25 年に古川町朝日会として発足し、東の錦とも称せられたほど繁栄しました。当商店街の圏内には知恩院・八坂神社・清水寺など数多くの寺社があり、その界隈に料亭が立ち並び「祇園情緒」をかもし出しています。しかし、高度成長経済を経て、交通条件の変化や都市化に伴う人口の流出などが原因で、商店街への来街者も減少しつつあります。この小さなアーケード内には、手作りに拘るお惣菜屋さん、丹念に仕入れてくれる八百屋さんや魚屋さんなど、

Furukawa-cho shopping district was established as "Furukawa-cho Asahi-kai" in 1950 and prospered to the extent that it was also called East Brocade. Within this area there a re many temples and shrines such as Chion-in, Yasaka Shrine, Kiyomizu-dera, etc. The neighborhood is also plenty of restaurants and exudes of "Gion fee l ing” . However , due the high-speed economy growth, changes in traff ic system and outflow of population, visitors to shopping districts are decreasing. Inside this small arcade, you will find old-fashioned shops, such as

handmade delicatessen stores, a greengrocer store that carefully purchases vegetables, a fish shop and others. Warm greetings like "konnichiwa" or "ookini" are repeated dai ly . Furukawacho shopping street is the unchanged kindness towards customers, is an important place for our human e x c h a n g e s . N o w t h a t t h e e n v i r o n m e n t i s c h a n g i n g drastically, a new era is taking shape.Is not the “human-ware", the human ability, actually required? What should we do to open up this new era?

Do you think that the Japanese w a y t o t h i n k i s t o o f a r t o understand it?Well, I wil l try to give you two simple tools like an hint in your discovery.Everywhere, in human society surrounding us, there are varieties o f u n d e r s t a n d i n g s a n d recognitions about "diversities" and "differences". Is not this the root of a lot of social problems? Adjusting the course of thought t h r o u g h i n t u i t i o n s a n d misunderstandings, "Kiwa" and "Awai" were found as one of the signposts leading to the response.

I have learned the importance of the viewing angles and viewpoints. Concepts like "make the difference s t a n d o u t " o r " d i v i d i n g " , resumable in "gap" word, are not useful for understand and tend to unleash conflicts. Instead, "Kiwa", that include the meaning of "cross over in same kinds", is near to English "overlap" concept. In the same way, I recovered the ancient meaning of the ideogram " 間 " reading it "Awai" and attributing in t h e E n g l i s h t r a n s l a t i o n t h e acceptation of "inter" instead of "between". Awai is an auranized atmosphere, a

potent ia l l y un l imi ted menta l spaces/time construction in which communicate multidirectional and it is an emotional energy between the observer and the animate or inanimate elements present in the environment. If the observer is in contact with only an inanimate elements l ike an artwork, the m e n t a l c o n s t r u c t i o n i s b u i l t t h r o u g h o u t t h e a r t i s t l i f e experience crystal l ized in the artwork. Awai is a concept related to Japanese culture under the p e r c e p t i o n o f e m o t i o n s independently from the context of civilization or technical progress. The space/t ime Awai derives, therefore, from the sensibility more than from the senses.I think that the humanity could fly to the next dimension through the recognize and experience of this concepts. 間（あわい）　　　　とは…

私達を取り巻く人間社会の至る所で見られる問題の根源は、「異なり」「違い」に対する認識・理解の違いに起因するのではないか？という素朴な疑問に対する思考錯誤の中で、回答の道筋に至る道標の一つとして見つけたのが「際（きわ）」と「間（あわい）」でした。「違いを際立たせたり」・「分け隔てたり」の対立概念を意味する「相違 g ap」ではなく「同類」を意味する「際」、即ち、「重なり合っている際（きわ）ove r l a p」や、「あいだ」・「ま」・「かん」ではない「接触し合っている間（あわい）in t e r」といった視角・視点の重要性を知りました。「間（あわい）」とは、狭義には、目には見えない「気」との交流が可能な無限の精神的時空間を意味し、広義には、森羅万象に宿る生命体や非生命体と対峙した時に、鑑賞者と対象物との間に流れる情緒的エネルギー（気の流れ）の潜在する空間と定義付けることができること。その際の、鑑賞者の精神状態は、アーチストの人生経験が凝縮された作品を通して表出される「気」の影響を受けること。したがって、「間（あわい）」の時空間概念は、認識力より、感受力に由来するものであり、文明や技術進歩の流れとは一線を画した情操力の影響下にある日本文化と深い関係性を有する概念であるといえます。私達が、広義のアート活動を通じて「際（きわ）」や「間（あわい）」の研究をするのは、政治世界での「際」、文化芸術世界での「間」の両概念が接触し合い重なり合うことの大切さを地球人が認識・体感した時こそ、世界は次なる次元への飛翔が叶えられるのではないかと考えるからです。

つき、それならそういうカフェを自分で作ろうと思われたそうです。オープンしてあっという間に２年を経ちました。今は近所の男性たちばかりではなく、近くで働く人たち、観光客、女性、若者、いろいろな人たちが良く通うカフェとなっています。店内には 60、70 年代のアメリカ音楽が流れていて、レトロな雰囲気とぬくもりに包まれています。朝にはモーニング、昼には手作りハンバーグやトンテキの定食があり、どれも美味しくておすすめの逸品です。

２年ほど前に、近くに昭和のノスタルジックな雰囲気を楽しめるカフェ、102 OLD RIVER ができました。店主の五嶋さんとスタッフの美香さんが半年かけて、自分たちでDIY をして、カフェを作り上げました。すべて手作りの店内は、とてもオープンでほっこりとした雰囲気がします。五嶋さんは５０代の男性で、飲食の仕事をながくされてきました。ご自身もカフェがとても好きだったそうなのですが、歳を重ねるにつれ、男が一人でも気軽に入れるカフェが少ないことに気が

五嶋さんによると、使用している食材はすべて自分で丹念に仕入れ、出汁やソースも時間をかけてすべて手作りにこだわっているそうです。おかげで、オープンから３年目に入り、今ではすっかり地元の皆さんに愛され、地域にとって欠かせないたまり場となったこのカフェを、私も一人のファンとしてこれからも応援し続けたいと思います。気づきましたか？お店の名前「１０２」は豆腐（トーフ）から来ているんですよ。

I tends to drink too much. Breakfast i n t h e m o r n i n g , h a n d m a d e hamburger or steak set for lunch, all of which are tasty and recommended gem. According to Mr. Goto all purchase ingredients, before the use, are carefully examined. Soups and sauces are also handmade, taking the necessary times and steps for the best delicious result. When a friend or acquaintance visits me, I would like to bring them to this Café by all means. I will continue to enjoy this coffeehouse, which is now in the third year since the opening. Being an essential hangout for the area and highly loved by locals, I will c o n t i n u e t o s u p p o r t i t a s a n enthusiastic fan. Did you notice? The shop's name "102" comes from a Japanese word pun where the pronunciation for ''10" is "to" and the pronunciation for ''2" is "fu", " to fu" . They dec ided to keep important the prev ious shop's memory in the name.

About 2 years ago, was opened the "102 OLD RIVER". A Café where everybody can enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere of Showa per iod . Actually, the place where this OLD RIVER is located, was originally a tofu store. But Mr. Goto (shop owner) and Mika (staff), during over half a year, took DIY tools and made a cafe shop by themselves. Like all the homemade shops, has a very open and smart atmosphere.Mr. Goto is a male in his 50's and has been creating food and drink recipes for many years. I heard that he likes cafe very much and, when he grew older, he noticed that there were not many cafes where a man could easily feel free to enter. So he thought to realize a Café such this. He opened it in only 2 years. Now, not only men of the neighborhood, but a lso persons who work nearby, women, tourists, and youngs. 最近は、現代的な商店街を作って行こうという動きがみられます。観光案内・体験・アートギャラリー・民宿やホテルなど、今も営業をなさっているお店、昔の雰囲気を残しつつ現代的な商店街を構築しようと言う動きが見られます。沢山の方が通る場所でもあるので、現代の商店街を売りに活気があった商店街に早く戻ってほしいと思います。地元の一員として、「古川町商店街」の発展等に協力出来ればいいと思います。

私は、東山区南西海子町で生まれ育ちました。幼い頃から毎日古川町商店街を通りました。私が誰とでも「挨拶」が出来るようになったのは、古川町商店街を通っていたからだと言っても過言ではありません。商店街を通ると、忙しい時でも皆さんが声をかけて下さいました。また、自分の通っていた小学校の授業の一貫として、古川町商店街を訪ね、仕事の見学や職業アンケートなど小学校と商店街の交流なども多数ありました。その頃沢山のお店があり、活気に溢れていました。

私は古川町商店街のすぐ近くの堤町で宿泊施設「京町家 叶う」を運営しています。僕のルーツは沖縄の古宇利島という離島で、80 年ほど前に祖父が大阪へ移住して来ました。日本のみならず世界中へ移住した沖縄のフロンティア・スピリッツの為か、僕は今までアジア、アメリカ、ヨーロッパ、アフリカなどたくさんの国へ旅をして来ました。そしてその旅の中で色々な形の宿泊を体験し、様々な人と出会い、たくさんの思い出が出来ました。

I was born and brought up in Saikaishi-cho of Higashiyama. I w e n t e v e r y d a y t h r o u g h Furukawa-cho shopping street. It is not an exaggeration say that I became able to exchange greets with anyone because I passed through this place. When I go across Furukawa-cho, everyone take a speak to me even when they are busy. Also, as a part of the lessons in my elementary s c h o o l , t h e r e w e r e a l o t o f exchanges with this shopping district such as visits to workplaces a n d q u e s t i o n n a i r e s a b o u t occupations. In that time, there

were lots of shops and it was full of v ibrancy. Recent ly , there are activities aimed at the shopping streets modernization. We can see a m o v e m e n t f o r b u i l d a contemporary shopping street leaving the atmosphere of the past in the assets that a re s t i l l in b u s i n e s s , s u c h a s t o u r i s t information points, workshops, art galleries, inns and hotels. It is also a place where many people pass, so I wish the quick return to the place that was vibrant in selling activities. As a member of the local community, I hope to cooperate in the development of Furukawa-cho.

I a m m a n a g i n g t h e accommodation "Kyomachiya Kanau" at Tsutsumi-cho in the i m m e d i a t e v i c i n i t y o f t h e Furukawa-cho shopping street. My origins are in a remote island called Kuori in Okinawa, and my grandfather moved to Osaka about 80 years ago. Probably for the "frontier spirit" that feed the Ok inawa ' s peop le used to migrate not only to Japan but a lso to a l l over the wor ld, I traveled over many countries in As ia , Amer ica , Europe and Africa. I experienced various forms of accommodation during

the journey. I met di f ferent p e o p l e a n d m a d e m a n y memories. In Japanese "Kanau" means "Dream that come true". It express the feeling that the dreams of the guests who stayed here may come true. I hope to be able to cooperate, even with m y p o o r a b i l i t y , i n t h e permanent deve lop o f th i s historic Furukawa-cho through t h e a c c o m m o d a t i o n management. I will collaborate with Mr. Katayama, who opened JARFO ART SQUARE, and the others who made this history until now.

京都は、数え切れないほどの理由で人気があり、訪問したい場所の一つとして残されています。しかしそれは、数え切れないほどある歴史的名所や観光スポットのリストと共に、都市に保存されている独特の洗練された雰囲気が維持されていることが大きな価値と考えられます。京都は、本物の世界を歩んできた人々の中で「日本の心」と称されているだけでなく、京都は、" 何 " が見えるだけでなく、“どのように” 文化のあらゆる側面が提示され、世話されているかについても賞賛されています。それは、世界遺産の名所や観光スポットだけでなく、京都の街自体、それぞれの通り、それぞれの庭、それぞれの家にあてはまります。京都は、多くの都市が到達して準じるよう努めているメンテナンスの基準を定めています。こちらで生 ま れ た「Do you Kyoto?」活動は、清潔な環境とそれに対する健全な態度を促進するために国内外に広がっています。市民は、自分の周りを気にかけ、個人レベルで環境に配慮した共通の目標に貢献することが奨励されています。毎月16 日に都市の名前が自然と環境のための同義語となった「Do you Kyoto?」活 動 のフォロワーたちは、「ノーマイカーデー」（自家用車の使用を避けること）、「ライトダウン」

（レストランや家の前にある屋外の照明は、ロウソクに置き替えられ、訪問者にユニークな食事体験を提供すること）などのイベントを行います。全体的に見ると、この美しい都市に住んでいる人と訪れているすべての人は、誰もが意識すべき環境を尊重し、保存するよう動機づけられています。

It is being said without a single doubt that there are numerous reasons for which Kyoto remains one o f the mos t popu la r and desired places to visit, however along with endless list of historic sights and tourist attractions , there is a great value and thought put into recognition and maintenance of the unique sophisticated atmosphere preserved in the city. Referred as a “heart of Japan” among those who have stepped into authentic world of local history, Kyoto is being complimented not only entirely on “what” is there to see but also on “how” well every single aspect of culture is being presented and taken care of. It applies not only to world heritage sights and tourist attraction spots but the city itself , every street, every garden and every house. Chiyogami is a beautiful paper which is said to have been printed to celebrate thousand years (chiyo) of Kyoto. There are a lot of traditional pattern like crane, turtle, pine, bamboo, plum. (1 item 600 yen～ 8 item 5000 yen) If you take two or more item, material cost free.

墨のすり方や、 基本的な筆づか いを体験した後、 好きな文字を考 えて半紙に練習します。仕上げにうちわに清書します。必要な道具や材料は用意しています。

子供の時から、字を書くのが好きでした。なぜかわからないけど。大人になっても、やっぱり字を書くのが好きでした。ずっと、ある人が書いた字に憧れていて、私もあんな風に書けたらいいなと思っていました。かっこいい字を書くのも好きですし、カワイイ字を書くのも好きです。でも、みやびな字を書くのは性に合いません。今は、字を書くことと、墨を使った抽象的な表現をしています。

Since I was a child, I like to write letters. I do not know the reason why. Even though I became an adult, I liked writing letters after all.I have always loved the letters written by one artist,I wanted to be able to write like that.Then a long time passed. I also like to write cool letters, and to write kawaii I like it. But, I do not like the noble thing. I am now writing characters and abstract expressions using ink.

JARFO ART ACADEMYは、特定法人京都藝際交流協会のユニークな教育制度です。京都藝際交流協会はNPO法人の団体であり、作家の表現活動を応援しています。「際・きわ」と「間・あわい」概念を元にして、国際交流・展覧会・研究等の活動をしています。

これらの活動をまとめ推進する組織がJARFO ART ACADEMYです。

「JARFO」はJAPAN ART FORUMの頭字語です。教師と学生の関係でも「際」概念を大切にしていますので、相手を尊敬しながら、学生が教師になったり、教師が学生になったりします。そして、「間」概念で教師たちは知識を伝えるだけではなく、学生の夢を認識しようとしています。

organization that supports the artists' expressions and activities.

Basing on the Japanese concept of "Kiwa" and "Awai", we conduct activities such as international exchange, exhibitions and philosophical research. JARFO ART ACADEMY is part of this organization and promotes these activities.

"JARFO" is the acronym for JAPAN ART FORUM.

In the relationship between teachers and students too, we value the concept of "Kiwa", so, respecting the others, sometimes students become teachers and teachers become students. Using the "Awai" concept, teachers are not only

communicating knowledge but are trying to recognize students' dreams.
