1: Read First Thank you for purchasing this film scanner. Please take some time to read through and follow these important safety and operation instructions. Important: To preserve the life of your product, do not expose this product to rain or

moisture. Caution: Risk of electric shock. Do not disassemble this unit. To prevent the risk of

electric shock, do not remove cover. No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.

Ventilation: The device should be situated so that its location or position does not interfere with its proper ventilation. For example, the unit should not be situated on a bed, sofa, rug or similar surface that may block the ventilation openings.

Heat: The device should be situated away from sources of high heat such as radiators or stoves.

USB power source: The device should be connected to a USB power supply from a connected computer with USB 2.0 compliant connection.

Cleaning: To produce a clear image, we strongly recommend periodically using a clean, dry, non-alcohol cotton swab to insert into the film scanner to clean the glass surface.

When unused: When the unit is left unused for a long period of time, you should unplug the USB cable from your computer.

USB overloading: Do not overload the USB connections on your computer. If you have other devices connected to your computer such as a wireless mouse, Media player, mobile phone or other USB powered devices, unplug them. Too many devices connected to your computer may result in inadequate power for the film scanner to operate properly.

Servicing: Never attempt to service the device beyond those means described in the operating instructions. All other servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel.

Film Holder: The design of the film holder follows ISO standards (international organization for standardization). If you are using a non-standard camera, the holes on the film may not exactly match the alignment of the holder. Should this be the case there will be a small black line on the edge of the frame, but this can easily be cropped out using the Blaze Photo Software.

Periodically and after consistent use, the inner chamber of the film scanner should be cleaned using compressed air. Place the film scanner on its side and insert the end of straw from the compressed air into door on the right side so that it opens. ◆ Gently blow out any dust on the inside of the film scanner.

Note: Compressed air is not included with the film scanner, but can be purchased from your local office supply store or electrical store.

You can also use the provided brush to clean the backlight panel ◆ Place the film scanner on its side and insert the end of the brush into the

door on the right side. ◆ Clean the backlight panel placed in the film scanner. For further cleaning, you can use an ordinary cotton swab and a bottle of lens cleaning fluid. ◆ Wet the end of the cotton swab with Lens Cleaning Fluid and insert into

Note: Cotton swabs and cleaning fluid are not included with the film scanner, but can be purchased from you local office supply or electrical supply store.

10: Trouble shooting Problem: Your film scanner will not connect to the computer Solution: Check your operating system: The film scanner is only compatible

with Windows XP and Windows Vista. To check your Windows operating system version go to the START menu under windows. Highlight “My computer” with the cursor and press the right button of the mouse. In the drop down menu select “Properties” this will give the operating system version and service pack number. If you are running Windows 2000, 98 or ME the film scanner will not be compatible with these systems.

◆ If you have Windows XP Service Pack 1, make sure you install the DirectX

drivers that have been included on the CD-ROM. ◆ Ensure that you are connecting to a USB 2.0 Compatible connection;

check the operating manual of your computer to get details on the connections of your particular computer.

◆ Ensure you have at least 384MB of RAM memory. On older computers with less RAM there may be insufficient memory for the film scanner to work. Also ensure there is sufficient hard disc space to save your images to your computer.

◆ Make sure that there are no other USB powered devices plugged into your computer, such as mobile phones, media players, blue tooth or other devices.

◆ Launch Blaze Photo-choose “Get Photo” and “Acquire from Film Scanner” and ensure that “OVT Scanner” is selected.

If you are still having troubles: ◆ Restart your computer with your film scanner plugged in Problem: Blurry images Solution: Please ensure that the workspace you are using is stable and does

not have any moving objects on it. Even the slightest vibrations can corrupt the images. Also make sure there are no dust particles, or hairs on your slides when putting them in your scanner. You can also clean the lens of the scanner using the cleaning brush provided.

Problem- CD not Auto Loading Solution- if this occurs select START/MY COMPUTOR then double click the CD drive, you will see an auto run icon, click this to run the software. Problem- No Hardware Wizard when the Scanner is plugged in Solution- firstly make sure the item is plugged into a USB 2.0 port. To check you have a USB 2.0;XP, click START, then Right Click MY COMPUTOR. Select PROPERTIES from the list, then select HARDWARE and DEVICE MANAGER, in the list at the bottom you will see “universal serial bus controllers” click the + on the left of the item. This will now expand the setting, if you have USB 2.0 it will be shown or show as “enhanced”/”standard enhanced” on the list. Vista: this is exactly the same method, except to get to the DEVICE MANAGER; you need to select START/CONTROL PANEL/DEVICE MANAGER (you may need to click “classic view” on the left of the screen) If the item is plugged into a USB 2.0 and there is still no hardware wizard follow the steps above, but when you reach the DEVICE MANAGER screen look for the VR Scanner (it may show with a! or? next to it or be under imaging devices). When you have found it Right click and select “update driver”. Follow the on screen instructions for the item to be installed. Problem-Cannot Find Camera Please Connect VR Scanner Solution- See the above information above in “No Hardware Wizard when the Scanner is plugged in”. This should resolve the problem. You may need to try different USB port on your machine to get it to work. Other causes for this are that both Drivers have been installed, or the wrong driver is installed. If this is the case go to ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS (XP) or PROGRAMS (vista) to remove the drivers and re-install the relevant driver.
