Gift of the HeartGift of the HeartThe tapestry the Gift of the Heart appears to have many visual elements of art and

Principles of design. To start off when I am looking at this tapestry I see a lady sitting outsideIn the grass feeding a animal that is jumping up on her leg. Then there is a man who is holdingA heart. He is extending out his arm to give the lady the heart. While these to figures are the Center of the picture there is also this enriched landscape surrounding them. One of the visual Elements of art that I see in this tapestry is the usage of lines. The objects in the picture (theLady and man) really stand out because of the contour lines. These lines are made becauseThe lady and the man differ from the backgrounds color. When looking at this tapestry I see lightGreen and light blue, which mean it is made up with cool colors. One principle of design thatSticks out to me is symmetrical balance. If you were to split the tapestry in half it would be almostThe exact same. This tapestry holds so much meaning and portrays many art qualities.

The entombment of AtalaThe entombment of Atala» This is a wonderful oil painting on a canvas that captures many elements and principles of

art. When looking at this picture there are two men holding a lady who is sleeping. One of the men appears to be Jesus and the other holding onto her feet seems to be the one who is in love with the lady. There is a cross in the distance, which makes me feel that the lady is having to chose love or religion. In this painting the visual element I feel the artist used is the lighting. It seems that the three people in the painting are in a cave and the opening of the cave is letting in this beam of light that is directly centered on the lady that is being held. The light is also reflecting the cross outside of the cave. The light in this painting allows us to see everyone's facial expressions and allows us to see the cross. The principle of design used in this painting is focal points. I feel that because the use of the lighting element it makes the focal point the lady. When looking at this painting my eyes go straight to the lady. She is glowing and illuminating.

» This is one of the most beautiful white marbled sculptures. There is so much to this sculpture that looking only at the front of it does not do justice to what the whole back and side few looks like. This sculptures actual mass allows one to see all the details. There are so many shapes in this sculpture but the geometric shapes are very precise. For example if one is looking at the sculpture from the back cupid is kneeling down and bending his right leg making a right angle. The women who is looking up and wrapping her arms around cupid, her right arm is slightly bent making a right angle. The use of lines in this sculpture is contour lines. These lines are created by the curve of the woman's knees. I believe when I look at this sculpture it shows balance. Psyche seems to have all her weight on the floor and Cupid is holding the upper portion of her body. Cupid also seems balanced because even though he is kneeling, when you kneel your body weight seems to lean forward, which is what is body is doing. When looking at the sculpture as a whole it seems balanced out. This sculpture shows true romance.

Paolo & FrancescaPaolo & Francesca» When I look at this beautiful painting it gives me this sense of passion and love. The value

of the color in this painting I feel is what evoked my feelings. The black background against the two white objects makes them reach out to the viewer. The value contrast is what really drew me into this painting. The woman’s elongated body, stretched across the man’s body against the black background really allows the viewer to see the different lines and shapes they create. The shapes that I see are more geometric shapes. The curvy lines that run down the woman’s back are very apparent. Then the cloth that they are both floating in create curved lines running down there bodies. One principle of design that appears in this painting is the emphasis on the focal point. The focal point for me is the man and the lady floating in this cloth. How the painting emphasizes the focal point is they really intensify the color. This is a wonderful painting to look and really feel how these two people are feeling towards one another.

Romance in the MuseumRomance in the Museum» In the Louvre Museum there seemed to be a theme of romance. The reason why

I selected the pieces that I did was because for each one there was something about it that caught my eye. For the Gift of the Heart tapestry I thought that the colors were and the artist techniques were captivating. The Entombment of Atala painting I loved because of the use of the lighting. The colors are rich and beautiful. The Psyche revived by Cupids Kiss sculpture makes me feel like they are just frozen in time and I want him to kiss her! It captures so much emotion and love in one sculpture. The Village Fete painting seems to have a lot going on but I love how everyone is gathering together and enjoying ones company. The Paolo and Francesca painting made me take a double take when I first saw it. I feel the struggle and love between the two of them. All of these pieces are different visually, but thematically they are similar. All of the pieces capture struggle, emotion and intensity in their romantic relationship.
