B. Project / projekta

1. Summary of the project (small paragraph) Sažetak projekta (kratak paragraf)

The project “Let's help children to live without violence” was created as a result of cooperation between Organization of Women “Lara” and Ombudsmen for Children of Republic of Srpska, and jointly recognized need to improve knowledge of students and educational staff about domestic violence. The project targeted four elementary schools in the City of Bijeljina (“Sveti Sava”, “Jovan Ducic”, “Knez Ivo od Semberije” and “Vuk Karadzic”), from which students of 7

th and 8

th grades,

pedagogues, psychologists and teachers are supposed to be educated on how to protect children from violence, how to recognize a child who is direct or indirect victim of violence, and what subject of protection are eligible and obliged to provide assistance in such cases. Teachers and students will be familiarized with the Law on protection from domestic violence and the Protocol on the procedure in case of violence, abuse and neglect of children. Subjects of protection in the City of Bijeljina will be included in the project activities, more precisely, through meetings of the Working group for prevention of violence they will take into consideration the possibility of integrating the Protocol on the procedure in case of violence, abuse and neglect of children into the Protocol on conduct and cooperation of relevant subjects to protect victims of domestic and gender-based violence on territory of City of Bijeljina. At the same time, the project is a sort of mobilization of different structures of community in

order to encourage children to talk about violence, provide them with protection and a safe space to report violence. All of this will be accomplished through following activities:

educational seminar of teaching staff in four elementary schools on protection of children from violence

three-day educational workshop of students of four elementary schools on how to recognize violence, who are the subjects of protection and how to protect themselves from violence. These students will also gain knowledge and skills for becoming peer educators

peer educations in four elementary schools in Bijeljina, which will be conducted by students who went through the educational workshop

creation of info-desks/letter boxes, whose purpose will be to allow children to ask for help in written form, in case they find it difficult to talk about the problems they have in their families

meetings of the Working group for prevention of domestic violence in the City of Bijeljina organizing competition when children will be invited to submit their

stories/photographs/paintings/impressions on violence, and rewarding the best work. This project is aimed at de-marginalization of violence against children in household environment and to draw nearer to general public extent of this phenomenon. If this issue is not adequately resolved it can cause multiplication of violence, because children will adopt behavioral models of their parents. 2. Aim of the project: Cilj projekta: The overall project objective is to de-marginalize problem of violence against children in family environment through improved knowledge of students (10-13 years of age), teachers and school professionals about prevention and possibilities to protect children from violence, and to raise public awareness about this phenomenon. 3. Target group (brief description): Ciljna grupa (kratak opis):

The primary target group in the project are children i.e. 18 students of 7th and 8

th grade of

elementary schools in Bijeljina. They will be involved in project activities throughout entire project period: attending workshops for peer educators, conducting peer education in schools, creating the promotional material, info desks/boxes and participating in the competition.

The secondary target group are five teachers, other professional school staff (four pedagogues and three psychologists), representatives of institutions (subjects of protection in cases of domestic violence) and other relevant individuals. Teachers, pedagogues and psychologists who go through the education will be engaged in organizing workshops for children, and afterwards, they will talk to students about issue of violence. Some of the pedagogues will be included in work of the Working group for prevention of domestic violence, in a segment of making procedures within the Protocol on conduct and cooperation of relevant subjects to protect victims of domestic and gender-based violence on territory of City of Bijeljina, which will regulate child’s protection. The main role in the activity for upgrade of the Protocol will have representatives of subject of protection: Administrative service of the City of Bijeljina, Center for Social Work, Health Center, Board of Directors of Elementary and High Schools, Basic Court, District Prosecutors’ Office, NGO and Department of Social Affairs of City of Bijeljina. Representative of Ombudsmen for Children of Republic of Srspka will participate these meetings, with suggestions for amendments for the Protocol based on his experience and work with children exposed to violence. 4. Specific objectives: Specifični ciljevi projekta:

Educating students of elementary schools on methods of protection from violence, so they can become Peer Educators.

Raising awareness of citizens of Bijeljina on ubiquitous violence against children and the need to protect children from violence

For each specific objective: Odgovoriti na slijedeća pitanja za svaki specifični cilj projekta:

- Main activities undertaken for achieving project objective, in reporting period: Glavne aktivnosti koje su sprovedene u cilju postizanja cilja projetkta u izvještajnom periodu:

Specific objective 1: Empowering teachers to protect children from violence, focusing on ability to recognize children who are exposed to any form of violence Activity 1. Introductory meetings with management of four targeted elementary schools Since any sort of activity, that includes cooperation with educational institutions and participation of students and teaching staff require permission from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Srpska, on September 11

th 2013, we submitted a request to the Ministry in order to obtain the

necessary permission, describing the purpose of the project and its importance to the target group, along with the activities that will require active and direct participation of students . The approval was issued on October 7

th 2013 under the number 07.020/052-4758/13.

The following step was to set meetings with directors and representatives of all four targeted schools in Bijeljina, so we could introduce them with the project, discuss it, answer questions they might have and finally get their initial agreement on cooperation during the project. The meetings were held in following order:

November 25th 2013, Elementary school “Vuk Karadzic” (director Mr. Dragorad Vasic)

November 25th 2013, Elementary school “Sveti Sava” (director Ms. Ivanka Tesic)

November 2th 2013, Elementary school “Jovan Ducic” (director Mr. Miodrag Zivanovic)

November 26th 2013, Elementary school “Knez Ivo od Semberije” (director Mr. Vaso Mitric)

On every meeting participated four members of the project team (Aida Hadzic, Dragana Petric, Maja Stankovic and Branka Micic), directors of the school and pedagogues and/or psychologists of the school. In general, the conclusions from every meeting were that violence, both peer and domestic, are increasing and that is extremely important to introduce students with this topic in the early stage of their education. The submitted to each of the school, copy of the Ministry approval, summary of the project and copy of the Protocol for the procedures in case of violence, abuse and neglect of children. Activity 2. One-day seminar for teaching staff (pedagogues, psychologists and teachers) The workshops was held on December 16

th 2013 in Etno village “Stanisici” in Bijeljina, with

participation of 12 represenatives, three from each of the four schools from the City of Bijeljina: “Sveti Sava”, “Jovan Ducic”, “Knez Ivo od Semberije” and “Vuk Karadzic”. During the first activity in the project –the seminar for teaching staff - it was noticed that school employees are somewhat familiarized with their role in protection of children from violence, however, they do not recognize importance of their active engagement in the circle of protection and rather pass responsibility to other institutions. The topics covered during the seminar were: consequences of abuse in childhood and legal frame of violence against children. The lecturers on the seminar, Zlatoljub Misic (deputy ombudsmen for children of RS), and Biljana Maric (a psychologists from the Citizens Association”Buducnost” Modrica), managed to open lively discussion and dialogue with concrete cases and problems from schools and from the lecturers' work in this field.

During the training, the participants identified as the main problem lack of professional employees in schools who would deal with problems of peer/gender-based violence. What they see as an obstacle is also inability to make difference between harmless teasing and quarrels on one side and real violence on the other side. Children rarely openly talk about problems they are facing related to the issue of violence, and very seldom report the violence. Ministry of education and culture of RS distributed the manual on prevention of peer education, and it has been promoted though all grades (from 1

st to 9

th grade), either though regular educational

curriculum or through various workshop covering this topic. Prevention of domestic violence, however, is not included in regular school program. Lack of adequate feedback in cases when schools would address some of the relevant institution for the problem they face is also one of the problems in this field. Every kind of cooperation is based on personal relations and good will of individuals involved, because there is no legal frame, which would regulate some official procedure in such situations. One day work (the seminar lasted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) with active participation of all participants resulted in conclusion that each link in process of protection, including schools, is equally important and responsible for child's well-being. This activity was covered by a local radio station, including statements given from lecturers and a representative of the project team. In this phase of the project, we agreed with school representatives to distribute them all material used in seminar for teaching staff and in the workshop with children. All participants found important to transfer the gained knowledge to their colleagues, and discuss with them possibility of including programs/workshops where children would be taught on non-violent communication, assertiveness, tolerance to differences etc. The project team planned to include this in the agenda for the second meetings with directors pedagogues/psychologists in schools, and discuss with them the best method for the most efficient knowledge transfer. One of the possible solutions is creating the tool kit on prevention of domestic violence, which teachers can use in classes covering violence prevention. Additionally, we will offer our assistance in any activity they plan to implement related to violence, with emphasis on domestic violence. Specific objective 2: Educating students of elementary schools on methods of protection from violence, so they can become Peer Educators Activity 1: Three-day seminar for students of elementary schools The workshop was held on February 23

rd, March 1

st and March 2

nd 2014, in premises of Organization

of Women “Lara”, with participation of students of 7th and 8

th grades of four elementary schools in the

City of Bijeljina: “Sveti Sava”, “Knez Ivo od Semberije”, “Vuk Karadzic” and “Jovan Ducic”. The accomplishments of workshops for students were even greater, taking into consideration their high motivation to attend this education and become peer educators, and concrete results of their very active work during those three days. In the project plan, it was intended for 16 students (four from each school) to undergo this training, but in the end we had 18 students who participated and finished this education. This number could have been even higher, however, we had to limit it for sake of the most efficient and productive work. The selection criteria for students who participated the education varied from school to school – at some schools students signed up for seminar voluntarily according to their interest to take part in the project, while pedagogues of some schools made selection of the students who would represent their school in this activity. When preparing the workshop for students, the local radio station - PAN radio showed interest in interviewing lecturers, representatives of project team and students, for the thematic radio show promoting this project. The workshop was divided into three segments. The first day of the workshop was led by Ms. Vedrana Rakic and Biljana Radulović, lawyer and coordinator of the Safe House (“Lara”). They covered

definition of violence, forms of violence, symptoms of a victim and concrete reflection on domestic violence. In the second day of education, the main lecturer was Mr. Zlatoljub Misic, who was assisted by two young counselors, peer educators: Mira Milicevic and Snezana Djosa, and they covered the field of subjects of protection, i.e. who to address when face violence or identify a victim of violence. The third day was created so the children gain basic skills on being peer educators (what is a peer educator, what is his role, different methods of peer education, and tips on how to overcome various obstacles during presentations. In the last part of the third day, students worked on their proposals for the poster and fliers that will be used for the project promotion. As the result we got four posters which will be used when creating the final set of the poster and flier. Activity 3: Information – educational workshops (peer educations) for students in elementary schools During the April, we held 13 workshops in four targeted schools, in following dates: Elementary school “Sveti Sava”

1. April 11th 2014 – 16 participants

2. April 24th 2014 – 20 participants

3. April 25th 2014 – 30 participants

Elementary school “Jovan Ducic”

1. April 9th 2014 – 25 participants

2. April 23rd

2014 – 25 participants 3. April 28

th 2014 – 28 participants

Elementary school “Vuk Karadzic”

1. March 28th 2014 – 28 participants

2. April 24th 2014 - 25 participants

3. April 29th 2014 – 30 participants

Elementary school “Knez Ivo od Semberije”

1. April 2nd

2014 – 28 participants 2. April 3

rd 2014 – 21 participants

3. April 4th 2014 – 21 participants

4. April 8th 2014 - 24 participants

The workshops were organized and scheduled in accordance with the most optimal conditions, where students would not have to miss a lot from the regular school classes, and so that as various as possible groups of students attend these educations. Professional staff of the schools (psychologists and pedagogues) were in charge for organization, and they were assisted by peer educators and project team of “Lara”. They previously received main guidelines about the structure of the group and duration of the workshops. We proposed a number between 25 and 30 students for each workshop, coming from 6

th, 7

th, 8

th and 9

th grades.

The workshops lasted approximately 90 minutes, and they were generally very well accepted from students. They were motivated to listen and actively participate in work. One or two members of the project team monitored each workshop, documented the process, and assisted the peer educators when they found it difficult to overcome certain situations. In addition, we suggested and expressed our wish for a representative of a school to be present on each workshops, however, that was not the case every time. General impression of peer educators was that they felt more comfortable in presence of a teacher/a pedagogue/psychologist, especially when they had a group of students from the 9

th grade.

The structure of the workshops was in draft created on consultative meetings with Ms. Vedrana Rakic, when peer educators decided to use a method of presentation, using games, video material, and the group work would follow.

According to the evaluation students filled out at the end of workshops, they found the group work the most interesting part of the workshop, because they were able to be creative and practically use what they heard and learned. Activity 4: Consultative meeting with the mentor Ms. Vedrana Rakic Although this activity was not planned in the original project proposal, on the seminar for peer educators, students mentioned it would be beneficial for them to meet Ms. Rakic few more times. We all agreed that it would be the best option to schedule those meetings so that one take place before they start with workshops in their school, and the second one sometimes in the middle of the period planned for the workshops.

a) The first consultative meeting was held on March 29th 2014, with participation of 14 peer

educators and Dragana Petric, as the representative of the project team. Since the day before the meeting, peer educators from “Vuk Karadzic” had their first workshop, their impressions were used to define the points of agenda on this meeting. Students/peer educators defined problems they might find the most difficult to deal with during the workshops: fear that they will not have authority with students from the 9

th grade, that the group will not find interesting the

topic, and situations where the students make noise, be disobedient and do not listen what peer educators have to say. Ms. Rakic’s tips were that they try to work interactively with the group, ask them for examples, and that every educator should have clearly defined role in the workshop. She also advised them not to have negative thoughts before the workshops and think how they will not manage to lead the group (a syndrome of self-fulfilling prophecy)

b) The second consultative meeting was held on April 19th 2014, with participation of 12 peer

educators and Dragana Petric, the project coordinator. We talked about various aspects of workshops: assistance peer educators got from school professional staff, team work, tools used to motivate other students during the workshop, how they felt, what they would do differently if they could, were they satisfied with themselves, what let them down, have the workshops changed their opinion about further participation in the project. Peer educators had different answers depending on the school they were coming from – some of them worked perfectly as a team, while in some teams predomination of one member was present; some peer educators were nervous, some thought they talked too fast, some said the workshops were exactly what they expected. The engagement of school staff was also different from school to school, i.e. peer educators from “Knez Ivo od Semberije” were disappointed with lack of interest of a pedagogue from their school, while peer educators from “Jovan Ducic” had only positive impressions regarding assistance and help they got from the director and pedagogue.

Activity 5: Installment of info-desks/mail-boxes for messages and reports of violence We designed the boxes for child’s messages about violence as a sort of mailbox. The boxes have a sticker on them, with inscription saying: ‘We have right to be protected from violence; Live life free without violence; This is your safe box to report violence at home or in school; The message you leave will be read only by school psychologist/pedagogue; Be brave and say NO to the bullies’. Stickers and other promotional material (leaflets and posters) were designed completely using the drawings and messages of peer educators. The boxes were put in the visible places in school halls, and they will stay there during the next school year as well. Promotional material was distributed in schools during the workshops by peer educators, and later on by students who participated the workshops. Each school also got a copy of framed poster, and the idea behind this was to leave something more permanent in each school as the reminder of the project, that violence is never acceptable way of behavior, and that every child deserves to be protected from violence and be aware of their rights. Specific objective 3: Raising awareness of citizens of Bijeljina on ubiquitous violence against children and the need to protect children from violence

Activity 1: Submitting the request to Administrative service of City of Bijeljina to consider amending the Protocol on conduct and cooperation of relevant subjects to protect victims of domestic and gender-based violence On the last meeting of the Working group for prevention of domestic violence, its members recognized the need to include measures, which will regulate child’s protection. “Lara” estimated that urgent and efficient reaction in area of child’s protection is needed and that in this moment children do not get sufficient help and assistance, being very often instrument of manipulation of their violent parent. This is based on experience of our organization dealing with cases where children are direct or indirect victims of violence, while in some situations we officially asked for intervention of Ombudsmen for children of RS. Activity 2: Meeting of the Working group for prevention of domestic violence in the City of Bijeljina “Lara” has sent the official note to Mr. Milan Simeunovic, the president of the Working group, containing general information about the project and the proposal to set up a meeting. The meeting was held March 18

th 2014, which will be attended, for the first time, by a representative from the office

of Ombudsmen for children in order to introduce the members of the working group with the Protocol on the procedure in case of violence, abuse and neglect of children. All the further activities regarding the Protocol have been postponed, due to the situation with the catastrophic flooding that impacted Bijeljina and surrounding villages, having all the services of the City focusing their work on assisting people in flooded areas. Activity 3: Competition for the best literal (story or a poem) or artwork about violence The competition was announced at the beginning of June (this activity was also delayed due to emergency caused by flooding). Peer educators were in charge for promotion of the competition, who distributed announcements among students of their schools, and shared the info via Facebook. Members of the project team discussed details with peer educators on the meeting held prior to the competition, where they proposed some of their ideas regarding method of motivation for students to take part in the competition and awards. The idea we have all gathered around is that, in addition to award that is meant for schools (books, school material...), a child that submitted the best work should also be symbolically rewarded for the effort he or she put. 36 works were submitted to us, and the commission of six members marked all of them, and selected the best one from each school. *Since we had unspent money within some budget linen and activities that were implemented, in the request for reallocation we are sending you as addition to this report, we proposed that part of saved money may go to three additional awards. Instead of awarding only one school, we would give awards to all four targeted schools, as the sign of appreciation for their support during the project implementation).

- Progress and the impact of the activities undertaken in the reporting period: Napredak i učinak aktivnosti koje su sprovedene u izvještajnom periodu:

The first significant progress has been made in work of Working group for prevention of domestic violence has started including issue of children exposed to violence in family. So far, none of the institutions, schools or Center for social work has keept record on children victims of domestic violence, because children who live in violent families were not explicitly legally recognized as a category that needs special protection of society. Developing procedures in cases of violence against children, which will be integrated in the Protocol on conduct and cooperation of competent subjects on protection of victims of domestic and gender-based violence, the first step has been made in achieving better protection for children.

On the other side, we work is focuses on creating environment sensitive to child’s needs and we the concrete measures and activities have been conducted to encourage children to report violence and seek help.

- Results

1 achieved in the reporting period:

Rezultati koji su postignuti u izvještajnom periodu:

- 12 members of teaching staff (four pedagogues, three psychologists and five teachers) from four elementary schools empowered to understand children exposed to violence, and educated to detect a child with behavioural changes, approach him/her and provide assistance

- Enabled the knowledge transfer to more widely population-teaching staff in 4 selected schools - 18 students of elementary schools (7

th and 8

th grade) gained basic knowledge about violence,

subjects of protection, how to recognize violence. In addition they are educated on skills of Peer Educators .

- Management of four elementary schools and the president of the Working group for preventing domestic violence in the City of Bijeljina recognized importance of this project and accepted cooperation and engagement in implementation of the project activities.

- Direct participation of parents at the workshop. - 20% of public population is being introduced to the workshop and the project though the media

presentation achieved in collaboration with a local radio station. - 325 children are directly empowered to report violence and educated about their rights on

protection, and on the institutions who are obliged to provide them protection - -general public in Bijeljina are informed about importance of reporting violence and protection of

children from violence through propaganda material (leaflets and posters) and media coverage of activities

- Letter boxes are installed in schools, where children can leave messages related to violence, report the violence or describe problem they may have

- 36 students take part in competition for the best work illustrating violence and the commission selected the the best one from each school - Changes attained Ostvarene promjene:

The most significant change attained during the project implementation was raising awareness among students and teaching staff in four elementary schools in Bijeljina on importance of child’s protection from violence, including subjects of protection and the legal frame. It was very beneficial to start talking about this issue in elementary schools, and considering this is the pilot project in our City, we believe changes will be even more visible by the end of project implementation.

- Impact on target group in reporting period: Učinak koji je postignut s obzirom na ciljnu grupu u izvještajnom periodu:

The primary target group in the project are children i.e. 18 students of 7

th and 8

desks/boxes and participated in the competition. Considering that no similar activities have been implemented in their schools before, and that they knew nothing or very little about violence (they are most familiar with the term of peer violence, while domestic violence has, for most of them, been something that they encountered for the first time), the level of their knowledge increased. In addition to the gained knowledge, peer educators now have more self-confidence, showing great interest in continuing their engagement in the project. “I was a peer educator in my school “Jovan Ducic”. I felt comfortable in that role. Educational workshops we have conducted influenced children a lot. They liked the most when we talked about different sorts of violence. My message to other children: Pay attention; open your eyes, because maybe your friend is a victim of violence. You can make someone’s childhood better.” (Dijana Lukic) “I was a peer educator in elementary school “Sveti Sava”. I felt very nice in the role of peer educator. In my opinion, this topic is very important and educational for children and I would like to continue to be a peer educator. A message to my peers: Let your voice be heard. Say NO to violence.” (Natalija Kokotovic)

The secondary target group are five teachers, other professional school staff (four pedagogues and three psychologists), representatives of institutions (subjects of protection in cases of domestic violence) and other relevant individuals. Although is difficult to measure the impact the project has had so far on this target group, we believe that some progress has been made, and that we encouraged this target group as well to think more about violence children are exposed on daily basis (particularly in home environment), and to become aware of responsibility of us all to protect children from violence. We count a lot on impact we will have throughout this project on representatives of institutions who are members of the Working group to prevent domestic violence, since it is crucial to formally have some procedures, which will regulate child’s protection from violence.

- Problems or difficulties in achieving project goals: Problemi ili poteškoće u ostvarivanju ciljeva projekta:

Regarding implementation of project activities and achieving project goals, there were several minor obstacles that made us to slightly alter original project plan. Firstly, due to a longer period we had to wait to receive permission from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Srpska, beginning of implementation of activities in the project were delayed, causing some deviation in pace of the activity plan. Officially, the project period started from September 1

st, but we started with concrete activities in the mid-October, after obtaining the

permission from the Ministry. Although we were given a chance to extend the continuation of the project for the time we lost at the beginning of the project, we thought that would not be necessary and that we will able to implement all the planned project activities by August 31

st 2014.

Secondly, according to the project plan, the workshop for children was intended to be held three days in a row, however, when we talked to the directors of schools about details for this activity, we were told that no extracurricular activity should take place during regular school hours and classes. For that reason, we had to organize the workshop for children in two weekends. The third obstacle that affected our timetable was emergency situation caused by catastrophic flooding that significantly affected our City. This unpredictable event mostly caused changes in the implementation of the competition for the best work on topic of violence. Children did not go to school more than two weeks, because the premises of the schools were used as collective centers for people escaping from flooded villages. It was decided not to prolong ending of this school year. We fit our competition in two remaining weeks of the school year, however, due to numerous school obligations, we did not receive that big attention and interest for the competition as we expected. Another activity that was influenced by emergency was work on the Protocol and advocacy for adoption of amendments regulating procedures in cases of violence against children.

5. Activities and achievements with regards to financial sustainability: Aktivnosti i postignuća s obzirom na financijsku samoodrživost: The activities with regards to financial sustainability so far have included mapping the list of donors that support these sorts of programs, since it is our intention to continue working in this field and with this primarily target group. According to our experience and the concrete work done towards decreasing domestic violence, it can be said that education from the early age can play a big role in combating this phenomenon. Therefore, it is our intention to start applying to public calls for project proposals, developing project activities, which will eather continue or complement what we have already started with this project. 6. Activities undertaken with regards to improving relationship with other NGOs: Aktivnosti koje ste poduzeli u cilju poboljšanja odnosa s drugim NVO: Within this project, there are no activities which require cooperation with other NGOs, and their direct engagement. The project activities are mainly orientated towards establishing cooperation with four elementary schools in Bijeljina, and extending and enhancing already existing collaboration with Ombudsmen for Children of Republic of Srpska. In that regard, before starting project activities, we met with management of these schools and they accepted cooperation within this project. On the other side, we already have Memorandum on cooperation with the Ombudsmen for Children of RS, signed on May 7

th 2012, which defines joint efforts on promotion and protection of child’s rights.

7. Activities undertaken with regards to relationship with relevant authorities: Aktivnosti koje ste poduzeli u vezi sa uspostavljanjem odnosa sa određenim predstavnicima vlasti: Activities undertaken with regards to relationship with relevant authorities are negotiations with members of the Working group for prevention of violence in the City of Bijeljin, and a meeting with the president of this Working group, Mr. Milan Simeunovic (director of the Center for Social Work Bijeljina). This was preparatory activities for the meeting of the Working group for prevention of domestic violence in the City of Bijeljina, which was held on March 18

th 2014. The agenda of the meeting

included mapping the needs and activities which will improve child’s protection. 8. Activities undertaken with regards to awareness raising general public/community: Aktivnosti koje ste poduzeli s ciljem podizanja svijesti javnosti/zajednice: In regard with awareness raising activities, it was done in two ways. On one side we have done media promotion of the project on the local radio station, which covered the seminar for educational staff and the workshop for children, and on the other side, we tried to influence the general public through propaganda material and announcements of the competition for the best work illustrating associations with violence. It was planned to organize a street action with peer educators in the third week of May, which is known as the Week of zero tolerance to violence in the City of Bijeljina, however, due to emergency which arose in the mid-May, all the events related to that week had to be canceled. 9. Changes or improvements in organizational development: Promjene ili poboljšanja u organizacijskom razvoju: Noticeable improvement was made in the organizational development, since this is the first project “Lara” has been implementing with this target group. The project team has learned a lot, and constantly adjusting working methods and approach in order to fulfil projected results. 10. Advocacy activities and achievements:

Aktivnosti javnog zagovaranja i postignuća: The majority of advocacy activities in the project are related to work of the Working group for prevention of domestic violence in the City of Bijeljina. Organization of Women “Lara” submitted the initiative to the administrative service of the City of Bijeljina to integrate the Protocol for the procedures in case of violence, abuse and neglect of children into the Protocol on conduct and cooperation of relevant subjects to protect victims of domestic and gender-based violence on territory of City of Bijeljina. The members of the working group are working together with a representative of Ombudsmen for children of Republic of Srpska on recognizing and defining the most efficient methods on conduct and protection of children from violence. So far, the team for making this amendments was selected, they meet to work on developing the procedures, which will be integrated in the Protocol. 11. Activities undertaken with regards to improvement of gender policy in your organization and with

your target group: Aktivnosti koje ste poduzeli u cilju unapređenja rodne ravnopravnosti u vašoj organizaciji kao i u radu sa vašom ciljnom grupom: In the structure of participants in the project activities, the principles of gender equality have been optimally respected. When it comes to structure of participants of the seminar and the workshop, we could not directly influence on respect of principles of gender equality, since all pedagogues and psychologists from targeted schools are women, however, there were two male teachers who attended the seminar (gender structure: 10 female and two male participants). Selection of students for the workshop for peer educators was conducted on the criteria of personal interest and on voluntary basis, and there were 14 girls and 4 boys attending the workshop. School pedagogues and/or psychologists were in charge for the selection of students for peer educations, and we advised them to gather groups with similar number of boys and girls. Overall implementation of this project contribute to decreasing violence and promoting gender equality, since the issue of domestic violence predominantly strikes women in adult age, while girls and boys are equally exposed to violence, either as direct or indirect victims. 12. Participation of the target group in monitoring and evaluation: Sudjelovanje ciljne grupe u praćenju i procjeni: The primary target group (students/peer educators) has been directly included in the process of project evaluation, because of the methods of evaluation was evaluation questionnaire, filled in by the participants after every information-educational workshop. That will be their way to show what they learned on workshops and send a message to other students through their comments and messages. In addition, we included two additional consultation meeting for children with Ms. Rakic who was one of the trainers, and these meetings were excellent opportunity to evaluate work of peer educators and the overall process of project implementation. Professional school staff was actively engaged in the monitoring, attending the workshops, giving suggestions and assisting in implementation of the activities. 13. Please fill in the table below.

14. Lessons learned from activity implementation: Naučene lekcije tokom implementacije aktivnosti: Lessons learned from activity implementation are mainly related to strengthening capacities of the project team in working with this target group, and developing methods to avoid in the future obstacles that have occurred in the project implementation so far. We have become more familiarized with the school system, and the regulations teaching staff have to follow, so we can plan our further activities in accordance with that. 15. Other unforeseen project achievements / Observations / Main conclusion : Druga postignuća koja ste ostvarili, a koja nisu bila predviđena projektom / zapažanja / zaključci: Generally speaking, this project has received much more attention and interest from the target group than it was expected. That can be illustrated by greater number of children attending education for peer educators (18 instead of 16), greater number of information-educational workshops (13 instead of 12), greater number of students attending them (225 instead of 200), three additional meetings with peer educators. Predominant observation was great motivation of students to take part in project activities on one side, while on the other side, what we have noticed among teaching staff is lack of knowledge on this topic and interest to take more active role in the activities. There were exceptions of course, however, we believe that number should be much higher. From the perspective of students who participated peer educations, and the evaluation questionnaires they fulfilled, they were very satisfied with the organization, educators, structure of the workshop, and some of their final comments were: -“it was very interesting and I learned a lot” -“interesting and very instractive” -“these workshops should be organized more often, because there are lot of violence” -“everything was good, peer educators did a great job” 16.
