The details of the calculations are covered in the book and you are provided with a sheet(snapshot above) that shows you exactly how long will it take to recover your investment inthe Grad School. 

Education is not an expense but an investment in yourselfAnother point is that I considered my MS fee as an investment and not an expense and ifthat is how you look at it, then you realize that its not the money that is sinking down thedrain but you are gaining skills that make you employable, a credible degree in the resumeand a great brand name to help you stand out in the competition. Imagine applying for ajob with a credible international grad school degree in your resume. Who is the employergoing to recruit? You with a reputed degree from US or someone with a relatively unknowndegree in India? And with a little hustle, you can manage funding.

Both of these can be satisfied without opting for MS. I also belong to a middle class family,I was in the same position as you 3 years before, I had a salary lesser than what you hadand work that I did not enjoy. I evaluated MS and did not pursue it for these reasons:

Too far away from family for too long time

Costs a lot (big factor)

I wanted to come back, didn't want to be in US for doing job, but that isimpractical as MS fresher doesn't get respectable salary in India.

So, I started studying on my own, cleared my fundamentals of data structures andalgorithms, started making side projects in the topics I had loved, and thus began theupward journey of my knowledge. I also cleared a few certifications, not because I couldflaunt in my resume, but to learn more.

Simultaneously, I started applying to various startups and small product based companiesin India where I know I could have growth. I just didn't care about the money. Soonenough I landed with an awesome job, and 3 years later, I am enjoying my work, get paida lot (trust me) and have a very secure road ahead, without doing MS.

Keep these things in mind:

Try to work in technologies that are adopted and used more openly. To me SAPBI is a very enterprise level technology and you have less scope.

If this is not possible, learn one major used technology end to end by doing side

No it is not worth the risk. Germany would be a better option for following reasons

Over 1 Lac Engineers and IT professionals required in Germany. Average salaryRs. 40 Lacs.

German Universities are considered best in the World for Engineering & ITprograms.

FREE education at Bachelor and Master level in all fields in German Universities.

Upon completion of your study programs, you have 1.5 year to apply for jobs.Easy PR process.

Schengan visa (i.e. issued for Germany) allows you to travel all over Europe.

Cost of living in Germany is cheapest in Europe, i.e. Euro 7000 per year.

Parttime jobs allowed 20 Hours per week making learning and living conditionseasy.

Arguably the only country in the World where completion of study  programs issmoothly followed by paid internship in top MNCs that  eventually lead to fulltime placement.

German is the language of one of the major economic players in the EuropeanUnion.

Germany's strong economic position has also led to the use of German  as thepreferred language of commerce in a number of Eastern European  countries.

In the fields of CS, IT and electronics you are definitely better off doing an MS abroad andsettling there, particularly US. So in my honest opinion, it is worth it.

That being said, your reason for doing an MS might frustrate you a lot. You yourself feelthat you don't have a good hold on undergraduate concepts. So try online portals likeCoursera or edx which offer free courses. If you go about doing an MS without a fair holdon UG concepts, you will get immensely frustrated and you might enter the "nonserious"mode in MS too, which can be financially fatal. So grab the basics well on your own andthen think about an MS.

Now, once you have done your MS abroad, try and stay abroad as it will not be valued herein India. 

Take a loan, study well and get into a good job. You should be able to get a minimum of30004000 $ per month. Send the required money back to India and repay the loan(typically 50K per month). Education loans have a moratorium period too so that helpsyou accumulate funds for about 23 years after you get a job before your repayment EMIkicks in.

I come from a middle class family too, while it is very obvious that every student from amiddle class family intends to go the US in order to earn more and get well settled in life,but sometimes the processing itself could be difficult when it comes to the matter of money.While many people advise that it might not be worth the hype that people give but it surelyis depending upon the university you go. 

Having studied in the United States, I can assure you that the US is really worth the moneyand the time, not only the higher salaries that you will be getting but also you will have anadvanced degree in the field which you work, also you will develop Individuality which isvery important in order to sustain. 

There are many chances of paying for your tuition and your living expenses throughvarious oncampus jobs such as Teaching, Research and Graduate Assistantships, manytypes of clerical positions in various departments around the university, tutors for mathsand sciences, graders for different courses and last but not the least student worker in foodstalls right in the university. So your main problem was money and I can assure you if notthe tuition you can easily take care of your expenses by working on campus or off campus(not preferable). If your scores are good and your btech basics are good you might getlucky and might be able to get an assistantship. Now most of the TAs, RAs and GAsbasically comes with the tuition waivers it might be instate( half amount of the I20 tuitionwill be covered) or it might be full tuition waiver. So considering all these types of resources

you can take for granted that you would be using your loan completely, but its alwaysbetter to be prepared for the worst. 

Now that being said, you also earn the loan amount easily with in two years. But you haveto carefully shortlist the Universities for MS in CS program. Since your main concern is theMoney, prefer the universities that have very low population of Indian students whicheventually reduces the competition. Also make sure that there are decent number ofassistantships. 

I was in the same situation as yours two years ago. For me getting the loan itself was acumbersome task and then I had to decide between the two admits that I have got. One ofthem was among the top 50 universities in the US but it didn't had any kind of funding,the other one was among the top 100 and had decent number of TAs, RAs with low Indianpopulation. I got the full tuition waiver right from my first semester. 

When it comes to salaries after MS, you get an average of 70k in the midwest which is OKand even if you save 2000$ per month it is much better than the kind of amount you makein India. 

P.S MS in US if definitely a better option which not only gives you an advanceddegree and money but also you will become more independent. All the bestmake the right choice.

I can say it is completely worth it if you can get into good university and make use of allthe resources and get a good job. Not to mention, most of the students go there and dopart times to manage the fees and cost of living most of the time. Unlike IndianUniversities they have goals and lot of things to satisfy in order to continue their existence,so they are very much result oriented no matter what the fees is. What you have to do isGet good GPA, Good GRE and IELTS then you can join the worthy universities, i am sureall that you will go through in a foreign country and all that learning you will definitelyexcel and become an entrepreneur or a big mnc employee in a short time. Earning moneyis not a big deal at all.

Though I am not very qualified to write this answer,(currently in my fourth year ofengineering ) I would like to point out something.Your reason to do MS as you said is to "need to understand the concepts muchdeeper".This is also possible with online courses and intensive reading of books andmaterial available on the internet.Since you've not taken your undergraduate coursesseriously,you may be lacking in many aspects which you can strengthen through thesecourses.According to me,one should pursue Masters in the field in which he is trulyinterested in.So,even if you choose to do an MS in CS your decision of choosing yourspecialization be it Machine Learning or Networking may not be correct because your basecourses for the subject are not very strong.Once you get familiar with all the availableoptions and have attained strong command in the basic courses of the specialization,youwant to do your masters in ,MS will be more fruitful.Side by side,as you continue to increase your grasp on concepts keep doing your job so thatyou are not at a loss financially.Who knows,you may become better at your job and get promoted and your second reasonto do MS now which is "an increase in your salary" may also get satisfied.

Conclusion: Do an MS only after you feel you have a strong hold on the undergraduate

I think I am now eligible to answer this question. This is my case:

Did BE Electronics/communication from a top tier college in India but didnt takeit seriously.

Joined MNC for same package as you had mentioned and wasn't happy with it.Worked for 2 years before i resigned and came for MS in US.

Didn't know the undergrad concepts well but one huge advantage was the work Idid in that MNC was related to my interest and I wanted to continue in the samefield. (i.e) Masters specialization related to it followed by my future dream job.

That helped me so much and right now I am working in the company that leadsin the field I was interested in.

Now, coming to your situtation. Here are some points I could help you understand (allrelated to USA only):

You said you work in SAP BI but you're interested in machine learning. I believeboth are totally different. If you plan to do MS specialized in something related toSAP and if you try the best SAP based company it would be an easy go for you.But if you're trying for a different field other than what you're working now, thestruggle is hard to convince the employers. You have experience, you need to bepaid more but the experience is not relevant which makes you equal to a fresherwho directly did MS course along with you who would be happy to get that jobfor a less salary itself.

Yes almost 95% students take loan. It is easy to repay it within a couple of yearsafter you join a job. Its not a risk factor unless you're not confident that you willget a better job after MS. And yes it is worth taking loan if you're confident thatyou wont treat MS like how you treated your BE.

Difference between the salary you're getting now and what you'll make after MS isyour current yearly pay becomes your monthly pay :)  (Purely because of Dollarto INR conversion and the expense is equally more here so it all matches up tosome extent.). Also, there is a huge margin with what company and what locationyou end up working.

Most people settle here because life is different here. They get used to the luxuryand system over here thereby not returning to India. If you're more affectionatetowards parents, relatives and friends you can return back but I doubt you'll :D

When you said you've CS background or if you're trying SAP related I believe USAis best out of your 3 options.

Some more points to help you decide:

Try to get admit from a better ranking school in USA. Also location matters a lot.A college surrounded by companies of your interest is better anyday.

Come here with better contacts. Know people working in related companies.Know your seniors. Here in USA referral makes a lot of difference.

Get some certifications done even before you come for MS. That is addedadvantage when you apply for interns which is half way through MS.

MS admissions are highly competitive, since you haven't taken engineering seriously, youwill have a very difficult time getting a good admission. Remember you are competing withall those students world wide who actually did take their education seriously.

Secondly, both your salary and family background suggest that you will need a _LOT_ ofmoney to finance your education and living expenses in a foreign country.

Thirdly, you will put yourself under huge emotional pressure when studying to come upwith goods that will lead you to a good job. By the way, a large number of students withweak academic backgrounds remain unemployed for quite a while in US. The reason isthat companies can easily hire employees from their global offices who are already trainedon their technology.

There are better options for you than screwing up further. For example, instead of pushingfor admission outside India, why not seek an admission at IITs or IISc in India. 

Or why not just turn to MOOC and finish three courses every 6 months. Trust me if you dothat, you can easily seek another job in India which pays you like 10 to 15 LPA in anotherone year if not more.

Indian market is struggling with qualified and employable engineers. A reason for that isthat students do not take their education seriously when they are in India. The samestudent when he goes to US works his ass off despite any flaws in the system because hehas taken a loan of his lime time.

Why go for MS? When you have IIT's / IIM's / NIT's. Better prepare for GATE and takeup M.Tech Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). You will get stipend as well :) And Mindyou, you will earn a lot! Respect as well as $$ :) 

PS : This is my view point. 

Why burden yourself with LOAN or parents with LOAN.. . Better study and be a part ofIIT's , IIM's , NIT's.

My friend, plan for MS only when you have some specific field of interest and you want tohone your skills and get a proof for it. If you pursue it only because of the reason 1(mentioned above), then I am afraid that you should give it a second thought. As you saidyou didn't study your engineering very thoroughly, this clearly shows your typical carefreeand careless attitude you have been carrying on your back since your freshman days.  Thisworks in India for your engineering but is a sure method to fail for an MS. No plagiarismallowed there. And believe in me, no miracle would happen in your attitude even if youjoin for MS. First and the foremost thing that you must think of is the strong avid reasonfor doing the same. Strong interest and thrust for the subject leaves all the other reason invain. Don't be dubious in your thoughts if your main motivation is just not to earn dollars.Because friend, no matter you do MS or not, if you give your heart and soul for somethingthat you like, no one can stop themselves from giving you lump of dollars.
