Do you remember the

friends you had when you

were a child? I am sure you

had friends that you could

play with or just sit and talk

to for hours and hours.

Maybe you had a “best

friend” to whom you could

share your most secret

thoughts, fears and dreams.

God made us in such a way

that we need friends. We de-

sire relationships with peo-

ple who are far more than

acquaintances. We long for

the support and love of true

friends. The Bible speaks of

friends many times. Some of

my favorite ones are: Prov

17:17 A friend is always

loyal, and a brother is born

to help in time of need. Or

how about this one: Prov

1 8 : 2 4 T h e r e a r e

“friends” (people who say

they are your friend) who de-

stroy each other, but a real

friend sticks closer than a

brother.

By far the greatest verse

about friendship is this one:

John 15:13-16 There is no

greater love than to lay down

one’s l i fe for one’s

friends. You are my friends if

you do what I command. I

no longer call you slaves, be-

cause a master doesn’t con-

fide in his slaves. Now you

are my friends, since I have

told you everything the Fa-

ther told me.

What could be better than

being the friend of Jesus? If

you have accepted Christ and

live as He commands, then

you are Jesus’ friend And Je-

sus did lay down His life for

us showing that there is no

greater love than His love for

us.

MEETING

SEPTEMBER 9, 7 P.M.

That is simply amazing and

wonderful.

This month we will be look-

ing at having friends and be-

ing a friend. The last Sunday

of this month, Sept. 26 we

will have “Friend Day”. We

encourage everyone to bring

a friend to church that Sun-

day morning and sit with

them during the service. We

encourage you to bring

someone who does not have

a church home or is not a

Christian. After all, what

better way to show your

friendship to someone than

to introduce them to your

best friend, Jesus Christ?

I love you all.

FOR

PRAYER

WARRIORS Come and Pray With Us For

Our Youth & Our Families !

Dear FCC Family,

I want to thank my church family for the support during my knee surgery and in the

passing of my mother. Both have been difficult, but all your prayers, cards and phone

calls were a big help and comfort. When you’re in a lot of pain, whether physical or

emotionally, God sends Angels to your rescue and I think God cared for me during those

times with each of you. God bless each and everyone of you and God bless our church.

Love In Christ,

Larry & Connie Dixon

SOUP PANTRY VOLUNTEERS

The Christian Women’s Fellow-

ship has ask that the FCC family

volunteer to help with the ‘FEED

AMERICA’ Soup Pantry here in

Abingdon. The pantry feeds ap-

proximately 100 - 150 people on

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thurs-

days. They are in need of volun-

teers from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on

those days. A sign-up sheet is on

the Sign-Up Table in the foyer.

Please consider this much needed

ministry that is such a blessing to

families in our community who are

struggling just to keep their fami-

lies fed. We hope to start this min-

istry in September.
