FBC On Mission...Scott AndrewsAssociate Pastor/Interim Missions

2011 has already been a busy year for the Missions Ministry here at FBC and we are not even half way through the year. We are commanded to go into all the world and share the gospel. I am so grateful to serve a church that takes that commandment to heart and for the people who make the sacrifice to serve.

Here is what has taken place so far in 2011 and what is to

come. There is an article concerning our mission efforts

in Haiti earlier this year and an announcement about our

effort in Malta this coming September. Please be sure and

those. Not listed below are the mission efforts of some

individuals, including a number of college students who

used their spring breaks to serve the Lord both here and

abroad.

January & February - Haiti (see related article)

March - Montana

A team of 12 folks went to Manhattan, MT and participated in

the 5th Anniversary Celebration of this new church,

Gallatin Valley Baptist, William Johnson, Pastor. During this

long weekend trip the team also sang for a nursing home.

April - Chattanooga, TN

A team of about 20 of our middle school students will be

joining other middle school students from our association

and traveling to Chattanooga to minister to a children’s home.

June - Clarksdale, MS

Our Youth Ministry will be returning to serve the Lord in

Clarksdale.

June - Exuma, Bahamas

A team of 9 will be conducting VBS and doing evangelism on

this island.

July - Bethany Bay, Delaware

We will be conducting our sixth music camp for the folks at

High Tide Church, Andy Ehlers, Pastor.

August - Nairobi, Kenya

A team of eight will be ministering in Orbit and Murtha,

helping those churches reach the lost for Christ.

September - Malta

Pray that God will protect these teams as they travel and as

they minister. We’ re trusting God to see many saved for His

glory.

Prayer is a means by which we work with God to control our world. It takes two wills to do so: God’s will and our will. To make it work, find God’s will and then find your joy in conforming your will to His will.

As we pray for our loving Lord to give this church a beloved pastor, don’t pray for His permissive will. That is, don’t try to be a special consultant to God regarding calling a new pastor.

In different areas of life, there are times we implore God for a specific thing. As this principle relates to a pastor, it might be that we are adamant regarding what we want in a pastor and pray only for such a one. In response, it might be as though God says, “Ok, if that is your will, what you want, though it is not what I desire for you. Therefore, in my permissive will you can have your will.”

Don’t pray for His permissive will. Pray for His perfect will. Jesus prayed for the Father’s perfect will in Gethsamene, “Thy will be done.”

By praying for the Father’s perfect will, you will have a part in the selection of your new pastor. “He gave some...(to be)...pastors.”

In writing this, I have no reason to know the progress of your diligent Pastor Search Committee, so don’t read too much into it. I am not suggesting a time of his coming. I am encouraging proper prayerful preparation for His coming.

In the meantime, let’s be faithful to our Lord and His church in order that things might be in order when it pleases our Lord to send His servant to minister with you as His servant/leader.

My wife, Trudy, and I are blessed to be your Interim Pastor. Based on our association with the fellowship, a new pastor will indeed be blessed to serve with you. Thanks for your every expression of love. We love you and thank the Lord for knowing Christ alive in this rare church.

Haiti MissionsKaye Thomas

In January and February of this year, two teams from our church went to Haiti to work on the construction of a school that had been destroyed in the earthquake. In Miami, twenty volunteers from our church met four people from our partner church in Montana, Galletin Valley, before going on to Haiti. This was a first for the Church Partnership Program in Tennessee, partnering churches actually going on mission trips together. All four readily made friends and, according to Theresa Johnson, the pastor’s wife, want to go with our church again.

On the first Sunday, we worshipped with 1200-1500 Haitians in a large tent. Their church had been damaged, but their spirit was not. It was a very lively, Spirit-filled wor-ship service with seven Haitians coming to know the Lord as well as several hundred rededicating their lives to Christ.

After a week of painting, installing electrical wires and fixtures, laying block, plumbing, and general construction, the first team came back to Sevierville - leaving five of us to greet

and lovingly share with one another. ~Carolyn Bennett

I was impressed by how clean they were, even in the midst of all the conditions they were always very presentable. They seemed to really care about the other person. They appreciated what we were doing for them. I am looking forward to another trip to help them. ~Dave Bennett

The Haiti Mission Trip was our first mission trip out of the country. It made us realize that we are so blessed. We have food to eat, a nice bed to sleep in and electricity in our home. Each of these is a challenge for most of the people in Haiti. Our children are so blessed with schools here and have food provided daily. The school children in the village where we stayed are only fed a meal that is beans and rice twice a week at

thirteen new volunteers. They were also great workers and carried on the efforts of the first team. But, the teams did not only work construction, they allowed God to shine through in their lives to the Haitians. They worked alongside them, they played and laughed with them, they worshipped with them, they prayed with them. This will forever make a difference in the lives of those people who have been through such devastating times in their lives.

On Friday of that week, the team bought 250 pounds of rice and 50 pounds of beans to pass out in the community. As we went door-to-door greeting the Haitians, we prayed for their concerns and shared God’s Word with them. Four people accepted Christ. This day was the highlight of my trip!

school. Please pray for the Haitian people and the missionaries living there. ~Greg & Cynthia King

I learned there is nothing more beautiful than the body of Christ in action. It was a joy to serve alongside fellow church members with a heart for missions and to see God blend our gifts, talents, personalities, and attitudes into a team used for His glory. ~Chris Kirby

I both wept and rejoiced with the people of Guitton. Their squalid living conditions provided little hope of a fulfilling future for all those beautiful children. Yet, Christ’s victory in the area is evident as committed followers gather daily for worship and praise while voo-doo temples are being destroyed and there’s a need for 200 new church buildings in the area. ~Elaine Cutshaw

Haiti Mission Testimonies

I was truly blessed to have been on my first third-world mission trip to Haiti with such a wonderful group of people and leaders. Leaving the comforts of my home, friends and family, the Lord showed me through this trip, the true meaning of the song, “Jesus Loves the Little Children, all the children of the world, red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight. Jesus LOVES the little children of the world.” God showed His love through me as we ministered and helped measure the school children’s feet for new shoes. God loves all of us no matter where we live. ~Patsy McQueen

I learned that in the midst of extreme poverty, the children of Haiti are still able to smile. When given something, they unselfishly
