• PETALS are the coloured part of the flower.

• All the petals together are the corolla.

• SEPALS are the small green leaves which protect the flower.

• All the sepals together are the calyx.

• THE STAMENS and THE OVARY are in the middle of the flower.

• The stamen make pollen and the ovary makes ovules.

POLLINATION

• When a male polen joins with a female ovule, a seed is made, and then a fruit.

• Insects can carry some pollen from one flower to another.

• Insects have food from nectar and can make honey.

FRUITS

• FRUITS grow from flowers.• We can classify fruit into two groups:

• FLESHY FRUITS are juicy because they have a lot of water:pears, apples, melon, …

• NUTS do not have a lot of water: acorn, peanuts, …

• SEEDS are inside fruits.

• Some fruit have only

one seed, like peaches, plums, cherries,…

• Others have a lot of seeds

like, tomatoes, melon,

oranges, …

PLANTS ARE BORN

• Plants are born from seeds.

• In Spring the flowers grow.

• The ovaries inside the flowers become a fruit.

• Fruits have seeds inside.

• When the fruit is ripe, it falls to the ground or we can collect it and plant the seeds.

• When the seeds are in the soil, a new plant can grow from each seed.
