PART I: PICTURE DESCRIPTION

1. CÁC DẠNG ẢNH:

Ảnh chỉ có một nhân vật, Ảnh có nhiều nhân vật, Ảnh miêu tả vị trí và trạng thái của sự vật, Ảnh có ngườ i lẫn sự vật, Ảnh có vật và bối cảnh. Giớ i thiệu vậy thui chứ cũng khôngcần nhớ làm gì vì cách làm cũng không khác nhau lắm.

Ảnh Tr ọng điểm:

* 6 - 7 / 10 câu về:Một người: Động từ, tân ngữ.

Nhiều ngườ i: Chủ ngữ, động từ.

* 3 - 4 / 10 câu Sự vật, bối cảnh Chủ ngữ, động từ, giớ i từ.

2. DẠNG THỨC CÂU:

- Trên 95% câu đựơc miêu tả là dạng câu đơn, thỉnh thoảng cũng có câu phức.- Thì (tense) trong các câu là hiện tại đơn, hiện tại tiế p diễn và hiện tại hoàn thành. - Khi bức ảnh có nhân vật thì các câu miêu tả thườ ng ở thì hiện tại tiế p diễn, còn bức ảnhvề sự vật thì câu miêu tả ở thì hiện tại đơn hoặc thì hiện tại hoàn thành. Không chỉ đượ cdiễn tả ở dạng chủ động, hành động cũng có thể được miêu tả ở dạng bị động, nhất là vớ isự vật.

* Chú ý: Thể bị động ở thì tiế p diễn và hoàn thành: Ex: A car is being fixed. (trong ảnh phải có người đang sửa xe thì câu này mới là lựachọn đúng) và A car has been fixed. (trong ảnh chỉ có xe thui).

3. CHIẾN THUẬT LÀM BÀI:

+ Xác định nội dung câu hỏi:

Miêu tả nội dung bức tranh hay miêu tả động tác của ngườ i trong ảnh hay nói cách kháclà ảnh tập trung vô người (hình ngườ i chiếm phần lớ n diện tích) hay tập trung vô cảnh(hình ngườ i chiếm diện tích nhỏ).

Người (có những ai, giới tính, hình dáng, râu tóc, mắt kiếng, quần áo), ngườ i cầm vậtgì/đang làm gì, có những đồ vật gì, như thế nào, địa điểm, không gian, vị trí tương quancủa hình, vật, người… Cố gắng liệt kê trong đầu thật nhanh và càng liệt kê nhiều thì lúcnghe càng dễ đánh trúng. Đăc biệt, nếu đó là tranh tả người thì phải tậ p trung nhiều vào

động tác của người đó: tay, chân, đầu…như thế nào và các chi tiết đi kèm. Đôi khi, chohình người nhưng lại hỏi vào những thứ lẻ tẻ xung quanh nên việc đi vào chi tiết r ất quantr ọng (đây mới là phần mà TOEIC đánh vào để gài bẫy). Ngoài ra, những câu hỏi đi vàochi tiết chiếm 20% trong số câu hỏi (mặc dù vậy nghĩa là có 2 câu thôi).

+ Nếu tr ọng tâm của bức ảnh là một vài ngườ i (nhiều lắm thường là 5 ngườ i, nhiều hơnthường là tranh cảnh có người) thì chú ý thêm vị trí của các nhân vật:

• Các nhân vật đang đối diện nhau (face to face, facing each other, across from eachother)

• Các nhân vật đang ở cạnh nhau (next to each other, side by side, closely)• Các nhân vật đang quay lưng lại vớ i nhau (back to back)• Các nhân vật đang đứng xếp thành hàng (making a line, lining up, in a row, in line)

Ngoài ra, còn chú ý thêm là câu diễn đạt tập trung vào động tác chung của tất cả nhữngngười trong hình hay động tác riêng của từng ngườ i.

+ Để tránh lúng túng khi gặp 1 câu nghe không rõ, bạn xác định từ đầu là mình dùng phương pháp loại tr ừ. Có nghĩa là, bạn thấy nó có khả năng đúng thì đánh dấu tạm r ồi tậ ptrung nghe câu tiế p theo. Nếu tất cả những câu kia sai thì câu đó đúng hoặc trong những

câu còn lại có 1 câu đúng thì câu đó sai.

Cách làm khá thú vị của 1 bạn: “dùng 4 ngón tay của bàn tay trái (tay ko cầm viết chì)đưa ra, tự coi đó là a,b,c,d, dùng ngón cái bấm vào ngón mà khi mình nghe câu tươngứng có vẻ không sai, nhưng không chắc là đúng, khi nghe những câu sau mà thấy là sai lèlè ra rồi thì chọn cái câu mà mình còn mơ hồ kia...”

+ Ngay cả khi bạn nghĩ là mình đã tìm được đáp án đúng thì cũng nên nghe cho hết 4 câuchứ đừng vội vàng chuyển qua hình mới vì có khi bạn bị gài bẫy mà không biết. Chính vìvậy, để an tâm hơn trong lúc làm phần này, bạn nên cố gắng xem hết 10 hình trong lúcmáy đọc Directions lúc đầu (thực ra là phải đọc đượ c cả qua phần 3 nữa). Tiết kiệm thờ igian là cần thiết nhưng đôi khi vì nó lại mất điểm.

+ Phần này thường dùng thì hiện tại đơn (với mô tả vị trí) và hiện tại tiế p diễn (với mô tả hành động). Chỉ chọn những gì xuất hiện trong bức tranh (cũng có khi là nguyên nhânhay k ết quả của hành động trong bức tranh nhưng rất hiếm). Tập trung nghe cho được thì(tense) dùng trong câu nói (rất có thể câu đó mô tả đúng nhưng sai thì, cái này hay gặ p).

+ Trong bài có những câu có nội dung không thể phán đoán được khi nhìn vào bức ảnhthì cũng là đáp án sai. Ex:

- She’s looking up an address. Vì nhìn ảnh cũng không biết cô ấy đang tra cứu cái gì.

- It’s time for the passenger to get on the train. Vì không thể biết đượ c chi tiết liên quan đến thời điểm hay thờ i gian biểu qua bức ảnh.- She’s turning on the bedside light.Chỉ dựa vào bức ảnh không thể biết được là định mở đèn hay tắt đèn.

+ Những yếu tố gây nhiễu:

• Những từ, ngữ nghe có vẻ giống nhưng thực tế lại hoàn toàn khác. • Những từ phát âm gần giống nhau hoặc từ đồng âm khác nghĩa: map/mop, plant/plans, train/rain/drain… Bẫy này xuất hiện trong cả Part 2 nữa.

• Những từ đúng nhưng đượ c sử dụng không chính xác. • Những từ đúng nhưng đượ c sử dụng chưa thực sự phù hợp, có thể gây ra hiểu nhầm.• Những câu trả lờ i chỉ đúng một phần.• Những từ liên quan không đượ c thể hiện trong tranh.

I. TRANH CÓ NHIỀU NHÂN VẬT

Loại câu ảnh có nhiều nhân vật chiếm khoảng 3 câu trong Part 1. Trong ảnh có chứa

khoảng từ 2-5 nhân vật và có khi lựa chọn đúng lại là các sự vật hoặc bối cảnh xuất hiện

trong bức ảnh.

Vì vậy các em cần luyện tậ p nghe nhiều để rút ra kinh nghiệm cho bản thân.

Sau đây là một số chiến thuật để giành điểm cao đối vớ i dạng câu hỏi này.

1. Phán đoán chủ ngữ (Subject)

2. Quan sát vẻ bề ngoài của từng nhân vật (Appearance)

3. Quan sát vẻ bề ngoài của nhóm nhân vật (common appearance)

4. Quan sát động tác của từng nhân vật ( action)

5. Quan sát động tác chung của các nhân vật (common action)

6. Quan sát vị trí và trạng thái của các nhân vật.

Sau đây là một số ý có thể được miêu tả:

Các nhân vật đối diện nhau (face to face, facing each other, across from each

other)

Các nhân vật đang ở cạnh nhau (next to each other)

Các nhân vật đang xếp thành hàng (making a line, lining up, in a row, in a

line)

7. Ngoài các nhân vật, các bạn cần quan sát những thứ xung quanh nhân vật: tr ạng thái và

chi tiết đặc biệt xung quanh cũng có thể là đáp án. Mỗi bài thi có từ 1 đến 2 câu hỏi loại

này.

8. Nơi chốn các nhân vật đang hiện diện cũng có thể được đề cập trong các lựa chọn:

Nơ i chốn có thể là xác định vị trí (park, office, kitchen) hay không gian (at thecomputer, on the desk, on one’s bicycle)

II. TRANH MIÊU TẢ VỊ TRÍ VÀ TRẠNG THÁI CỦA SỰ VẬT

Đây là dạng tranh không có ngườ i xuất hiện mà chỉ có sự vật. Loại này đượ c hỏi từ 1 đến

3 câu trong bài thi. Loại câu hỏi miêu tả tranh này khó hơn loại câu có người nên các bạn

cần lưu ý một số điểm sau đây:

1. Hãy suy nghĩ tên của sự vật trong bứ c ảnh bằng tiếng Anh để sẵn sàng cho các

câu hỏi như “ What is it? What are they?”

2. Hãy quan sát đặc điểm bên ngoài của sự vật giống như đối vớ i tranh về ngườ i

3. Quan sát mối quan hệ tương quan giữ a vị trí của sự vật này vớ i sự vật kia.

4. Quan sát cẩn thận nhữ ng thứ xung quanh sự vật

5. Mặc dù ảnh không có người nhưng có thể xuất hiện các câu lự a chọn nói về

ngườ i. Đối vớ i lự a chọn đó, các bạn có thể dễ dàng loại trừ .

III. PHẦN NGHE TRANH 1 NGƯỜ I

Như các em đã biết, trong câu hỏi về hình ảnh ở Part 1, cần lưu ý con người làm trọng

tâm. Cần quan sát kĩ động tác của người đó. Đây là dang câu hỏi đạt con người làm trọng

tâm nên em cần luyện tập cách miêu tả những đặc điểm về ngoại hình, động tác của nhânvật dựa theo cấu trúc “Be + V-ing” đồng thờ i cần làm quen vớ i những từ vựng miêu tả đồ

vật hay cảnh vật xung quanh con ngườ i.

Sau đây là một số cụm từ cơ bản cần biết, r ất hay xuất hiện trong kì thi TOEIC, khi trong

hình xuất hiện một ngườ i.
