DIRECTED NUMBERS Solve each of the following problems. 1. A student gets +10 points for each good deed done but 6 points for each offence committed in school. If he does 4 good deeds and commits 3 offences , find his total points 6. An assignment consists of two parts. The total time allowed for the completion of the assignment at home is 2 hours. A boy takes 1 hours to complete the first part and 1 3/8 hours to complete the second part . Find the remaining time in hour that he has after completing the assignment.

2. The initial temperature of an oven is 9000C. Its temperature changes by 150C each minute. Find its temperature after 30 minutes. 7. A boy is given RM5.00 of pocket money . He plans to spend of the money on food and RM2.80 on bus fare. What will his balance be ? 3. A housewife buys 5 kg of rice and 2 kg of flour from a grocer. If the grocer makes +30 sen from each kg of rice and 5 sen from each kg of flour find the grocers profit in sen. 8. A lift is at +63 m from ground level . 8 seconds later , it is at +39 m . Calculate the change in height of the lift in each second.

4. A submarine is at 28 m from sea level . It goes down 13 m and then rises 7 m . Find its new position from sea level. 9. In a quiz , 5 points are given for each right answer and 3 points for each wrong answer. If a participant gets 3 answers right and scores a total of 12 points , find the number of answers he gets wrong.

5. The initial temperature of gas is 2.40C . Its temperature changes by of its initial temperature in the first hour and then by another 1.50C in the next hour. Find the temperature of the gas after two hours.

10. A boy is at 25 m from a point P on a straight road. After running for 9 seconds along the road in a particular direction , he is then at 29m from point p . Find the average distance he can run in one second

13. A trader makes a total sum of RM16.90 from selling 4 items of P and 7 items of Q . If a profit of RM5.80 is made from each item P , how much profit is made from each item Q ?

11. The water level in a reservoir is 1 m from the critical level. After 3 days of rain , the water level rises to m above the critical level. Find the average rise in water level in one day .

14. A class of 34 students plans to collect RM 2.80 from each person . They plan to spend RM33.40 on stationery , 1/3 of the balance on decoration and RM 62.70 on a class event . Find the amount left and give the answer in decimal .

12. A mine worker is at 5 1/3 m below ground level , while the collection center is at of that distance below him . Considering the distance below ground level is negative , find the position of the collection center from ground level.

15. The volume of a balloon which is filled with air changes from 165.5 ml to 143.9 ml . If its volume changes by 3ml in each second , how many seconds does the above change take ?

Solve each of the following problems. 1. A wooden block with a volume of 1 500 cm3 is cut into 12 equal cubes . Find the length of the side of the cube obtained.

5. A cubic tank with sides of 4 m each is to be filled up with water . If 1m3 of water costs RM0.50 , calculate the cost of filling up the tank with water.

2. 8 identical cubes of metal with a volume of 216cm3 each are melted to form a large cubic block ,. Find the length of each side of the large cubic block in cm

6. A big square is made up of 9 small squares with an area of 49 cm2 each . Find the length of each side of the big square in cm

A box with a volume of 4 320 cm is filled up completely with 20 equal cubes . Find the length of each side of the cubes in cm .

7. A square piece of paper has an area of 1.44 m2 . If the paper is cut such that each of its side is reduced by 20 cm , what is its new area ?
