Formosan Blue Magpie likes to gather in flocks, often 3-5members in a straight line and flying above trees of lower mountains, or gliding down to the valley.

簡史台灣藍鵲是從中國大陸飛來，自喜馬拉雅山，經海南島到達台灣。後因台灣海峽形成，阻隔而成為台灣的留鳥。連雅堂在台灣通史中，就這麼形容這種美麗的鳥：俗稱長尾山娘，翠翼朱喙，光彩照人」

形態特徵台灣藍鵲與烏鴉是同一科的鳥類，不過羽色卻截然不同；雌鳥與雄鳥的羽色一致，不易區分。頭部、臉部、頸部、喉部、胸部都是黑色，黃色的眼珠黑色的瞳孔，鮮紅色的鳥喙、雙腳，身體上半部的背部、腰部、尾上覆羽鮮藍色，下半部的腹部鮮藍色，尾下覆羽白色。雙翼鮮藍色，初級飛羽末端有白色斑，尾羽中央兩根特長，為鮮藍色，末端白色。較短的尾羽為黑色、末端白色，共有十二根尾羽，左右對稱。身體全長約 64~65 公分，翼長 18~21 公分；尾長約 38~40 公分，有「長尾山娘」的雅號。牠們不太怕人，故在山區的住家附近，或是人工開墾地區，都可以看到牠們的蹤跡。絲絲亮麗，閃閃動人，台灣藍鵲有著飄逸的長尾巴，喜歡大夥兒在一起聊天、話家常，平日出去遊玩，也會結伴同行，他們無疑是最直來直往的動物，不是個性如此，而是尾巴太長，尾羽即佔全長的 2/3 ，只好直線飛行囉！當牠們從飛行中優雅地停棲樹枝時，又有股說不出的典雅韻味，教人深深著迷。特殊的身形與身影使台灣藍鵲又有「山娘仔」、「長尾陣仔」之稱。發出的聲音 - 似嘎 - 嘎 --- 嘎嘎穗 -- 嘎嘎穗—或是「嘎 - 鏘、嘎 - 鏘」之聲。
