“One child, One teacher, One pen, & One book Can Change the World.” These are the words of Malala Yousufzai. We all remember her as 2014’s Youngest Noble Peace Prize Winner. It is in respect to this 17 year old that today everyone celebrates 12th July as “Malalal Day”. And in it is this regards, I decided to dedicate this month’s newsletter to those Women in my life who were my silent mentors.

Thousands & Millions we have so much more power. We have to teach women “How to

“When you get back,

FRESH

TOAST

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire,

which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but

which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of

adversity.”

- Washington Irving

“One child, One teacher,

One pen, & One book

Can Change the World.”

These are the words of Malala Yousufzai.

We all remember her as 2014’s Youngest

Noble Peace Prize Winner. It is in respect to

this 17 year old that today everyone cele-

brates 12th July as “Malalal Day”. And in it

is this regards, I decided to dedicate this

month’s newsletter to those Women in my

life who were my silent mentors; helping us

remembering the reasons why we should

appreciate them in our life & learning how

we can help them to transform and reach

their full God-given potential.

Do you have women in your life who

you consider mentors? Have you

mentored others?

Yes! You Can, I Can, We Can. I am writing

this to help you understand ―How you can

make yourself more effective by keeping

all your other roles intact. Being a Degree

holder brings you one step closer in

achieving your dreams but more steps are

needed to take you in the right direction

at the right time.

Today the way world is evolving, riding the

band wagon is the best thing you can do.

But if you are not technologically aware

you might miss the ride!

Thus, through this article I am trying to an-

swer these 3 important questions that will

help you to conquer your dreams –

1) What are the opportunities for Women?

2) Where to find them?

3) And How to be technically fit for them?

It is rightly said that “You create your own

opportunities” and it is indeed true; for

when you are in a certain profession, you

can’t expect Opportunities to come

knocking on your door, you have to go

out & hunt for them, and do all it takes to

grab them. That’s what creating your own

opportunities means. In regards to that I

have listed some of the tricks of trade that

will help to landing amongst the stars if not

moon.

And Woman as a Wife.

These are some roles in her daily life. Who says multitasking is difficult? Women practice it

every day!!! In fact I believe many of you reading this would also be take up many of

these 5 roles casually every single day of every single year. And trust me that’s apprecia-

ble but the story does not end here…… The question is “Can women really have it all?”

What is so Special about Women?

“ How few there are who have Courage enough to own

President’s Note

There’s a beginning to every story but

there’s never a story that begins the

same…

This month has been quite an eventful one

where 2 members of our club began their

International Speech Contest & Table

Topic Contest journey.

My heart is filled with pride in acknowledg-

ing the fact that we received an over-

whelming response from role bearers, par-

ticipants, new members and the audience

at large.

I would like to congratulate all the role

bearers and participants who made the

event a grand success.

It is good to rub, and polish our brain

against that of others…

The onus lies in “Sharing the knowledge” by

installing “Creativity with commitment”. This

will be the motto of the elected Mumbai

Toastmasters Executive Committee for the

coming months.

And on this note, I wish you all a Very

Happy Holi and a Very Hot Summer Season

to come. :)

Kriti Prajapati President

New Year is long gone, but my Resolutions

are not. There are still 5 of them which I

haven’t broken yet.

77% of people end up breaking their reso-

lutions within just ONE MONTH!!! At least I

lasted for 2 months. Phew!

So what went wrong with my Quit Smoking

Oath?

Initially, everything went well. Slowly and

gradually, I started appreciating myself

more & more in the mirror. . It was indeed a

better ME. Days converted to weeks and

my determination ran strong. Then, in the

1st week of March my work-life balance

got distorted and this was a start to my im-

pending doom. As my stress levels rose,

the sleeplessness took over my sleepy

nights. The urges to do it took over the

urges to not do it. And here I was with the

convicted and the guilty version of myself.

I then realized that the timeline is not im-

portant. What is important is the honesty

and the will power to overcome it. This will

many times be remembered as “Broken

resolutions” but what will matter will be

your journey in reaching “Accomplished

resolutions”.

tions Remember To Get Up Each Time You

Q. How do you maintain a work life bal-

ance with Club responsibilities?

A. I have always felt that the more respon-

sibilities you take up, the more productive

you end up being. It does get difficult

sometimes, but so far I have managed.

Having said that, it would be unfair for me

to take all the credit. I have been sup-

ported by a excellent team of buddies and

I'm going to use this space to acknowl-

edge them: Varun Kotian, Aakanksha &

Kunj for the posters and artwork, Pankaj,

Namrata & Nidhi (so far) for the newslet-

ters, Sushil Pal for the YouTube channel,

Aadesh & Apurv for the picnic arrange-

ments and finally Sandeep Sriyan & Ab-

hishek Bhat for the Fun Night venue ar-

rangements. I wouldn't have been able to

handle all the responsibilities without their

help. If I may have missed out on anyway,

it is purely unintentional :)

Q. Since the theme of March Newsletter is

Women's Day Special, We would like to

know which woman has played the most

influential role in your life?

A. For multitasking, I have always admired

MTM’s Shruti Pandit. When I joined the club,

she was the club President while also being

an active member at TCS Maitree TM Club.

At the same time she would run marathons,

learn Bharatnatyam and manager her day

job. Currently, in doing all of this, she is a

compere and an improv artist. I still haven't

figured out how she manages to do all

that.

Q. Did you ever wish to be born as a

Woman?

A. No. Women are beautiful creatures and

I think being a man allows me to admire

their beauty better. I'd like to keep things

that way :p

Every month we interview an Executive

Committee member of MTM. This is month

is the turn of a man who is the reason be-

hind MTM‟s addictiveness and helps MTM

in maintaining long term relationships with

it‟s members. He is the same man who

helps MTM in beating Pulse Candy’s word-

of-mouth records consistently. He is our VP

-PR, Robin D’souza.

Q. Why VP-Public Relations role ?

A. I’ve always felt that the PR role does

not come with a fixed job description. It

allows you to be innovative and creative.

At MTM, due to our large membership

base, there are endless possibilities to be

creative and come up with new PR initia-

tives. I wanted to put to work various ideas

that I had to improve the experience of

our members, so I took up this role. I am

glad I took up this role as I’ve been having

great time so far.

Q. Can anyone become a VP-PR?

A. I don't think I possess any special quali-

ties that would make me an ideal VP PR

for MTM. For that matter, any of the Ex-

com roles can be performed by anyone.

What you need though is a high level of

dedication to the role you've taken up.

That and a desire to learn and grow as a

leader while serving the club.

Q. What has been your best PR experi-

ences so far?

A. The best experiences are always those

when you receive positive feedback from

others for the work you have done. I have

experienced this for events like the inter-

city join meeting/picnic at Lonavala and

our first MTM Fun Night. Also with the vari-

ous initiatives to increase visibility of our

club in the District, such as monthly club

newsletters, contributions from MTM to the

District newsletter and the launch of our

YouTube Channel. We still have three

more months to go and I'm sure there will

be many more amazing experiences.

Robin D’Souza VP - PR

VP—PR’s Interview

Q&A with our International Speech Contest Champion

Mario Rozario Winner

Q. When did you know you were ready to Compete?

A. This is very tricky. I was sure I was going to com-

pete. But it wasn't till a week before, to be precise at

the MTM Fun night event when I actually did latch on

to an idea.

Q. Is this Contest any different than giving Prepared

Speeches? If yes, then How? No, then Why?

A. There is always the adrenalin rush on the contest

day and the crowded room full of new faces. Then

there's the "you" factor, glancing at other contestants

just like you from the corner of your eyes, rehearsing

out in the corridor and occasionally speaking to your-

self. So yes, a competition always drives people to

cross their individual milestones, which your prepared

speech in a normal club setting may not do.

Q. Have you participated in the Past? What were your

previous Benchmarks?

A. Well you can say that I am an old rusty hand at this

now. I have reached the District level 5 times prior to

this in different contests but never crossed it. Neverthe-

less every time I look back, I always feel that there is

still so much ground to cover when you get on the

stage.

Q. How do you improvise? (Learn more techniques or

Practice the existing ones to the best? or Find a bal-

ance to that?)

A. You have to keep improvising. Right until the year

2010 (if my memory is right), district champions in the

I.S.C. from India (District 82 it was then) used to deliver

serious speeches to their audience and win. Some-

where after 2010 all this changed. Humor began to

emerge as a key ingredient. Now it has become a

necessity. Your audience expects at least 1 or 2 hearty

laughs in the course of your message. I was never

funny, and by an large I think I have made small

strides in making club members smile whenever I

come on stage. So, yes. You have to keep improvising,

and learning new skills.

Q. Since the theme of March Newsletter is Women's

Day Special, We would like to know which woman has

played the most influential role in your life?

A. Like most Indian boys who have no sister(s), my

mom obviously.

Q. Did you ever wish to be born as a Woman? :D

A. If I ever was born a woman, I hope for God it

would be in a country where there is gender equality

since I do not wish to live another lifetime fighting for

equality.

Page 5 FRESH TO AST M ARCH 2016

“What‟s the opposite of start? Would the average person think Stop or Finish?

The answer may reflect the difference between a Winner and a Loser.”

Q&A with our Table Topic Contest Champion

Aditi Guha Winner

Q. When did you know you were ready to Compete?

A. I’m always ready to compete for a TT contest.

There is nothing to get ready for. You just have to show

up!

Q. Is this Contest any different than giving Impromptu

TT Speech? If yes, then How? No, then Why?

A. Yes it very different for—

The topics at club meeting are more ―Fun‖ &

―Casual‖ — That is for a different cause as TT at

a regular meeting is meant to encourage peo-

ple to come up and speak.

When everybody speaks on the same topic — I

think that’s when you can differentiate be-

tween speakers.

Q. Have you participated in the Past? What were your

previous Benchmarks?

A. This is my 6th contest. I don't have any benchmark

per se but I would like to be 100% satisfied with my

speech. Till date it had only happened. I would like

more encores of that experience.

Q. How do you improvise? (Learn more techniques or

Practice the existing ones to the best? or Find a bal-

ance to that?)

A. I don’t actively do anything. Doing nothing helps

me the most. However, I think speaking at different

stages helps as well getting out of one’s comfort zone

helps (Like attempting Humorous speech for me.)

Q. Since the theme of March Newsletter is Women's

Day Special, We would like to know which woman has

played the most influential role in your life?

A. My mum and for that matter any home maker is a

tremendous source of inspiration. I totally believe a

hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world. If I am an

independent, ambitious woman, it’s all thanks to the

values she has instilled in me and I am very thankful for

that.

Q. Did you ever wish to be born as a Man? :D

A. Every time I use a public loo, I wish I were a man.

Every time! LOL!

We wish our Champions loads of charms in all of their

endeavors.

“Fight Gravity and Fly Away.

Reach New Horizons and Expand Yourself.”

Q, In what way you seek Toastmasters

to help you?

A. Toastmasters is obviously the greatest

thing out there, for self-development .

The biggest thing I am looking forward to

is to make my self vulnerable, expressing

who I am and being okay with failing

and goofing up. Trying not to be a per-

fectionist under the disguise of a procras-

tinator. Ohh well I guess this sounds like a

good topic for a P2 speech. Nobody

steal this please?! :)

Q. What makes you get up on a fine

Sunday morning to attend a Toastmasters

meeting? (People? Energy? Breakfast?

Diverse Knowledge Sharing? Etc.)

A. Energy levels and the people are the

main reason. After the meeting con-

cludes, I get a surge of adrenaline and

that keeps me pumped up for the next 2

days. Love the people, love the friendli-

ness and the warmth. You guys are the

best.

Q, In what way you seek Toastmasters

to help you?

A. I am a person who doesn't believe it

until I see it for myself. So thinking of

Toastmasters as akin to a Personality de-

velopment course was my 1st guess. But

the experience I Felt in my 1st meeting

was like a breath of fresh air. At Toast-

masters, I am looking forward to let out

my stage fear of public speaking and

eventually want to be best in it.

Q. What makes you get up on a fine

A. I am very easily influenced. And for

the 1st time I think it works in my favor as

the energy and enthusiasm that is pre-

sent in Toastmasters influences me to no

bounds. The wish to learn new skills and

new techniques is reason enough to get

me hyped up to get out of the bed.
