VETERANBILERVINTAGE CARS

En BMW Isetta er et skønt minde om en dejlig

tid, da der var fremgang i europæisk økonomi.

Velstanden var i midten af 1950’erne vokset så

meget, at mange familier begyndte at se sig om

efter en bil. For mange danske familiers ved-

kommende faldt valget på den populære kabi-

nescooter, der blev produceret mellem 1955 og

1962. Den italienske virksomhed ISO, der bl.a.

var kendt for at producere husholdningsappa-

rater og motorcykler, havde fremstillet en usæd-

vanlig bil, hvor fronten kunne åbnes ligesom

lågen på et køleskab. Når man åbnede den

brede front, svingede rattet ud og til siden sam-

men med fordøren og gav således god plads til

indstigning for to voksne.

BMW købte licensrettighederne af ISO i

1954, optimerede konstruktionen og startede

en produktion. Allerede året efter kunne BMW

præsentere Isettaen for offentligheden, der

straks blev begejstret for den lille, billige bil med

BMW ISETTA 300

bekvemme siddepladser og komfort som i en tra-

ditionel personbil. Ønskede man frisk luft, kunne

man enten åbne sideruderne eller skyde foldeta-

get lidt tilbage, og ovenpå motoren var der plads

til lidt håndbagage. Skulle man på en længere

ferie, var det muligt at købe en lille bagagebærer

med plads til en kuffert.

Med en længde på blot 228,5 cm kunne bi-

len i Tyskland parkeres med front imod fortovet.

Det var dog ikke tilladt i Danmark, og var man

rigtig uheldig, havde nogen parkeret så tæt på

fronten, at man ikke kunne komme ind i bilen.

Den enkle konstruktion gjorde bilen så po-

pulær, at der de følgende syv år blev produceret

flere end 36.000 eksemplarer på BMW’s fabrik

i Tyskland. Succesen med Isettaen skaffede li-

gefrem BMW det nødvendige finansielle over-

skud til at kunne udvikle nye bilmodeller. I dag er

Isettaen en yndet veteranbil, ligesom den også

er symbol på en interessant periode i bilhistorien.

Modellen på frimærket er fremstillet i 1960.

Petrol in the blood

Vintage CarsMinisheet featuring cars from when grandad was a boyThere is no shortage of nostalgia on the minisheet

All the drawings of the cars were made based on

the genuine articles, which are on display at the

Jysk Automobile Museum in Gjern, Denmark.

Exhibition labels with images from NanjingPostNord is issuing three exhibition labels to mark the China International Collec-

tion Expo (CICE). The images are all from Nanjing, which is where the expo event

is being staged. Nanjing, which is the capital of the province of Jiangsu in Eastern

China, holds a prominent position in Chinese history and culture.

The three exhibition labels present a distinctive stone elephant, which features

on the UNESCO World Heritage List, a photo of Nanjing at night, and a view of the

city’s impressive skyscrapers. If you have a subscription for exhibition labels, you

will receive them with the 28 September issue. If there are any exhibition labels
