Our Vision Statement

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:1819 (NKJ)

It is the vision of Mt. Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ.

From the Pastor’s Desk

Prayer is so strategic, does so much damage to satan's kingdom, that he will do anything to distract or sidetrack you, intimidate you, including encouraging you to be so busy or feel so tired you will not take time to pray. Luke 18:1

NEXT WEEK’S LESSON: November 15, 2009 “A SUFFERING PEOPLE”

1 Peter 4:12-19 Peter teachers how Christians are to respond when they suffer for the sake of the Gospel. Life tests us in many ways. How are we to re spond t the trials and sufferings that come our way? Peter believed that those who suffer as Christians are to rejoice as they follow Christ, even as the apostles did when they were arrested for teaching people about Jesus.

DAILY BIBLE READINGS

• MONDAY: Suffering Together 1 Corinthians 12:2026

• TUESDAY: Choosing to Share in Suffering Hebrews 11:2328

• WEDNESDAY: Strengthened in Distress Philippians 4:1014

• THURSDAY: Faithfully Obeying God Acts 5:2732

• FRIDAY: Living by the Will of God 1 Peter 4:16

• SATURDAY: Glorifying God in All Things 1 Peter 4:711

• SUNDAY: Sharing Christ’s Sufferings 1 Peter 4:1219

∗ CLASSES FOR EVERYONE!! • CLASSES FROM KINDERGARTEN TO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

∗ TWO CHOICES FOR ADULTS

• YOUNG ADULTS—AGE 19 AND UP

ADULTS—ALL AGESWELCOME

General Theme For This Quarter: COVENANT COMMUNITIES The study this quarter focuses on God’s covenant as manifested in communi ties. It highlights persons God chose as covenant leaders, the invitations God offered to enter into community, people’s responses to the invitations, and the nature of God’s new covenant community.

We hope that you will join us as we are focusing on: UNIT #3

“AN OPEN INVITATION TO COVENANT LIVING”

In these four lessons, stories are taken from the book of Mark in which Jesus interacted with people and invited them to live in living in covenant with God.

THIS WEEK’S LESSON: “A CHOSEN PEOPLE” 1 Peter 2:110

Peter called the people to come together in faith and form a new com munity. He taught that salvation includes an ongoing process of be ing build into a “spiritual house” where Christ is the foundation and cornerstone. The people of God are called to proclaim God’s amaz ing deeds. The way we live sends a clear signal about who we are and what we believe. What distinguishes members of the Christian church from other groups? Peter teaches that we are a “royal priest hood,” a “holy nation,” whose purpose is to declare God’s mighty acts, as Peter did in Acts 4.

Sermon Highlights: November 1, 2009

Sermon Title: “A No Room Experience” Scriptural Text: Luke 2:17

Main Idea: When there is a no room experience:

Points: (1) Understand that God keeps His word (2) Know that God will provide space (3) Understand that God is a roommate

KINGDOMTIED August 24 — November 28 (The pulpit attire is Green)

We are in the season of KINGDOMTIDE, the color of KINGDOMTIDE is GREEN. The color GREEN symbolizes growth. The cloths on the Communion table and podium are changed to coincide with each season of the Christian calendar. KINGDOMTIDE runs from August 24 until Advent. KINGDOMTIDE is the newest of the seasons, dating no farther back than the late 1930’s. KINGDOMTIDE gives place for due attention to the eternal presence of Christ and His Kingship—with the parallel emphasis upon our stewardship. Its emphasis on the kingship of Christ and His kingdom, challenges us in our daily lives and in every area of our existence.

For the full message order a CD of the service from the Media Ministry.

MYTHS VS TRUTH

All children in foster care are bad seeds. Each child is different and in care for different reasons.
